Dead Link Pages Torn is one of those rare gems that once in a while will pop up here at BFG. When I saw the video of the game I knew it was one that I had to play and the game doesn’t disappoint. The game is an old-school whodunit game that will leave you wanting to play through the game and storyline to find out who the culprit really might be.
The downfall, IMHO, is the graphics that are overall cartoonish and sometimes seem fuzzy or pixelated. The voiceovers seem a bit contrived and the dialogue is full of errors but if you can get past the shortcomings in the game it is a surprising breath of fresh air and one that is long overdue. Although it seems there might be something supernatural going on we don’t have the evil mage who is bent on world domination. This is a murder to be solved and a game that requires piecing together the clues as we progress in the game.
There is no need to go into more detail in this review as others have provided that information for you. I will close with a simple request that BFG finds a way to provide us with more games like this one. As another reviewer stated it would be wonderful to see a return of the once upon a time journal that we found in all games. It is far more fun to go through the pages of the journal to find our clues, ones that we knew we stumbled upon earlier in the game and that have been waiting in the journal for us until we need them. This is one of the things that made the older games more difficult and more fun.
I find that I am really enjoying Dead Link Pages Torn and hope that we can look forward to more games from this developer. It is wonderful to see new developers bring fresh ideas to BFG because I am becoming tired of the cookie-cutter recycled themes that are brought to us time and time again. Even though I really like this game, please try the demo to see if this is a game you will enjoy as well. Happy gaming!
I recommend this game!

Storm Chasers Tornado Islands is an excellent Match 3/Combo type game. There are so many match 3 games to choose from but, IMHO, this is one of the best of the best. The storyline is well told and I found myself waiting for the “next chapter” as I played through the game.
The mechanics of the game include the obvious matching 3 tiles to make them disappear but there is much more. We encounter obstacles and different goals with each level. There are tasks that include clearing the board and then specific additional tasks or goal to acquire resources. Once we have resources we are then able to rebuild the village so that we can find our way back home. There are various mini-games or HO scenes mixed in with the match 3 boards to help break up the basic matching of tiles. The graphics are crystal clear and full of gorgeous color.
Overall Storm Chasers Tornado Islands is a game that I highly recommend. It is suitable for all ages from the younger crowd to those of us who are young at heart. This is a great game to fill out my gaming library and a go to game for when I am no playing a HOPA game. Please try the demo to see if this is a gam e you will enjoy as well. Happy gaming!

Dark Romance A Performance to Die For, is the ninth game in the Dark Romance series and If the game seems familiar it is because it is loosely based on the novel by French author Gaston Leroux later to receive acclaim in the musical adaptation by Andrew Lloyd Webber – The Phantom of the Opera. Because of my love of the musical play, I knew that this game would be a must have addition to my gaming library. I am happy to say that as I have played a good portion of the game that I am not disappointed. The game is as good as I thought and did exceed my expectations.

As the game begins we see our heroine Christine as she is meeting with her beloved Raul shortly before a performance. Raul has just returned from a business trip abroad and as he promised he has a surprise for Christine. Shortly before Christine is to debut in a new opera, her beloved proposes to her. As he prepares to slip the ring on her finger, Christine is whisked away through a mirror by a strange masked man. Now Raul is left broken-hearted as he must save his beloved and get rid of the madman who kidnapped her.
As in previous games in the Dark Romance series the lovers each take part in the game as we switch between characters, in this case Christine and Raul. Each character has their sequence where they move the game forward as they help each other.
The game has all of the technical features we enjoy with a custom setting that has a couple of new features. The only issue I have with the custom setting, something I have noted before, is that the lower limit for the hint and skip settings should not be preset but that the gamer should be allowed to choose what the hint and skip limits should be according to how they like to play. Although there are some cute and not so cute critters in the game we do not have an animal helper.
The HOPS are nothing that we haven’t seen before but still some are very creative and well-designed. For those of you who might not want to search for items to complete a HOP scene, there is an alternate match-e game available. The puzzles are entertaining but very easy. Even though we are given an option to choose between easy or hard when solving the puzzles, I happened to find even the hard option fairly easy. Although I enjoy puzzles in a HOP game, I don’t always want them to be brain-drain difficult so it was a nice change that I found most of them easily solvable. The game has 24 puzzles and 18 HOP scenes that can be replayed if you purchase the CE version of the game.

In case you want to try the CE version of the game it includes the following extras: Collectibles to find that include Posters, 15 Theater Props, and Crystals to find and 36 Achievements to earn. Other extras include 10 Wallpapers, 10 Concept Artwork, 5 Music Tracks, Movies, and a Dressing Room that will be furnished by using the crystals you find in the game. The game includes a Bonus Chapter as well as a 55-Page Strategy Guide.
Although I have found most of the Dark Romance games to be excellent, this one is my favorite in the series. Perhaps it is because of my infatuation with Phantom but also because of the graphics and the characters in the game. The gameplay was fun and yes I am happy to report that I wasn’t disappointed as we do find the glass knife and a myriad of other recognizable tools that we love to hate. I have said it many times that I am a game addict and I happen to enjoy most games that come along. Recently I have felt a bit disappointed but when I find a game from this developer I know it will have a lot of value in the way of activities, HO scenes and mini-games. There is not much more that I could ask for in a game. Although I love the game, please try the demo to see if it is right for you. Happy gaming!

Honored Healer, grab your new and improved diagnostic kit and face off with Gromoss whose petrified body was brought to the royal palace at the command of the Empress Patricia Tar-Liss. Gromoss who is a powerful demon has only one goal in mind and that is to obliterate the human race. After Gromoss is freed from his prison the Empress realizes that her actions were foolish and that she should have listened to Dr. Klein, the head of the Medico Imperium. Fortunately, you are immune to the dark magic that Gromoss wields and you must find a way to stop him and put an end to his diabolical plans.
When will this cookie-cutter series ever end? I found the storyline the same as it was in the first game and the developer simply inserted a different evil entity to fill in the blanks. The game was boring but more than that I found the graphics that were drenched in dark blue, purple and pink to be so dreadful that it actually hurt my eyes after staring at them for a while. If the developer has any hope of continuing it needs ditch this worn-out theme and breathe some new light (literally) and a more realistic color palette into its games.
I didn’t/couldn’t play the game long enough to write a more comprehensive review so I will close in saying that, in case you haven’t already figured it out, this game was not for me. Lately I have found myself with a growing list of games that I have not purchased. I own close to 1,400 games from BFG but in recent months I have only purchased a handful because the quality of what we are being offered has sunk to new depths with this latest demon plotting world dominion being a prime example. Even though this game is a turn-off and no buy for me, please try the demo because you might love it. Happy gaming!

Kingmaker Rise to the Throne is a first effort for a new developer and I must say that, at least for me, this game is excellent. There has been so much attention to detail put into this game beginning with a great storyline, voiceovers that are spot on, and graphics that go a step beyond what we normally find in HOPA games. The realism creates a game that engaged me right from the beginning scenes.
Yes, it is still a HOPA game and although it does have a touch more adventure, we still will need to search HO scenes to find the items we need to progress in the game. The game seems a bit easy but I don’t always need a super challenge particularly when I play a game to relax. The beauty of this game is that I found myself involved in the action and felt like I was one of the Ulmer brothers trying to clear my name.
The HO scenes are varied and generally excellent. I enjoyed the first interactive silhouette type scene where I needed to find items to repair a boat but all of the scenes that I have played were the same quality scenes. The mini-games are fun and started off with one where I needed to get flags to the appropriate spot in order to open a saddlebag. The mini-games are not difficult but they are entertaining. I have found that I enjoy a game much more when the puzzles are solvable and I don’t need to use the skip button simply because t don’t understand the instructions.
Others have described all of the extras so I am not going to duplicate the information here. The game has what I look for in a CE package with collectibles and morphing objects. Another reviewer said the collectibles were easy to find but I found them difficult to spot.
Congratulations to the developer for creating such a wonderful game. I hope that we see more games from them in the future because I found Kingmaker Rise to the Throne to be one of the most engaging games I have played this year. As always, even though I happen to love this game, please try the demo. Happy gaming

Grab your hot air balloon and travel to Polynesia for this 15th game in the Myths series. As a gift from your parents for completing your studies, you are off on the adventure of a lifetime visiting the Polynesian islands. As your balloon unexpectedly crashes you find yourself in shark infested waters and only help from a young girl on an island guides you to safety.
In an effort to make the game more attractive to younger gamers, history has been thrown out the window and we are left with the EIPIX vision of how to make it work for a game. Granted in order to keep it user friendly the island population is not running mostly unclothed, and the princess or other young maidens are not being thrown into the fiery volcano to quell the rising beast. Unless the date of 1790 at the beginning of the game is wrong, I doubt that a box of matches would be traveling with our young adventurer. In spite of the anachronisms I still found the game to be an improvement over some others in the series but Of Fiends and Fairies and The Heart of Desolation are still my favorites.
The HOPS are the basic style we see in all HOPA games and you either love or hate them. As for me I did find them enjoyable even though there was nothing new or exciting. I am a HO lover and it never seems to get old even though I own 1,300 games. In Fire from the Deep, I happen to enjoy the beautiful graphics and finding the items even though some might not be too-hidden. The beauty of the colorful graphics (rather than hunting through dark and dingy scenes) is what makes the HOPS much more enjoyable for me. Congrats to EIPIX for stepping up and making some HOS that many of us will love! The PUZZLES or mini-games seem to be an improvement as well with some of them being a bit more difficult for me.

If you prefer a CE game that includes extras this one has morphing objects and collectibles to be found in each scene. The rest of the CE content is the standard and I find it to be better than some particularly since we can replay HOPS and Puzzles.
As I mentioned Of Fiends and Fairies and the Heart of Desolation are my two favorite games in the Myths series but Fire from the Deep is much better than some of the more recent offerings from this developer. Although this game has nothing to do with the true history or Myths concerning the Polynesian culture it is still a fun and entertaining game to play. If you can put aside your need for accuracy in a game and enjoy it for the entertainment value, then this is a game you will hopefully enjoy as much as I did. As always, please try the demo to see if this game is a keeper for you. Happy gaming!

I will always love Fantasy Mosaics that was one of the first really excellent mosaic type games to hit the market after World Mosaics disappeared. As another reviewer pointed out the first several games in the series were monochrome but the later incarnations of the game picked up a wonderful palette of brilliant colors making them far more appealing than the existing mosaic games that were available. In fact, Fantasy Mosaics was the first game of this type to add a wide variety of not only colors but various tile styles as well that made games far more enjoyable.
In Fantasy Mosaics 30 the much loved penguin family is off on a camping trip and will undoubtedly pick up some friends along the way as their adventure progresses. Even though some might consider the FM games to be fairly easy, in my experience the past few games have been a bit more difficult and I definitely had a much more difficult time determining where to put the first few tiles. As much as I hate to admit it, I did need to use a hint when switching between the two available colors still left me trying to figure out where to place the beginning tiles. Making the games a bit harder finally adds the layer of difficulty many gamers have requested. My favorite feature in all of the FM games is that the grids are larger and the squares are easy to see. I also appreciate the contrast where the grid indicates the number of tiles to be filled. In other mosaic games I often find it very difficult to determine the number of squares that must be completed for a specific color.
Although there are some other great mosaic games available here at BFG, Fantasy Mosaics will always be at the top of my list. I own all 30 games in the series and as long as the developer brings them my way my gaming library will continue to grow. Pennmom has submitted a comprehensive review about all the features to expect in the game so I am not going to duplicate her efforts so will close by saying that I love this game. As always, please try the demo before you buy to see if you will enjoy Fantasy Mosaics. Happy gaming!

Painting Journey is an excellent new mosaics type game. It offers three modes of gameplay from Journey mode which is the classic style where your mistakes count; Tea Time mode where your mistakes do not count; and finally the Brain Heat mode that is more difficult and the tiles are not checked off as you solve the game. Although I really like this game, it is a learning experience as there is no tutorial and one has to experiment to find out how to use the different icons or power-up items that are earned as you play the game.
There are a few faults in the game and the first is that when colors used in a grid are similar in tone they somehow seem to blend together, such as red being used in close proximity to a dark tan color which then makes it difficult to determine what color is being used. The next issue is with the Journey mode where numbers should be clicked off as they are completed. However, it doesn’t always work. For instance. if you have a list of 1-1, or 1-3 you have no idea when you have inserted the single 1 as it is not show as complete in either the grid or the list. I am not sure if this is intentional to add a bit more difficulty or perhaps a programming error in the game, but I do find it annoying. Another minor difference in Painting Journey and the traditional mosaic type puzzles is that rather than the number sequences being listed on the left side of the grid, the numbers are listed on the right. At first I found this a bit confusing but quickly became used to the new style. Aside from these minor issues, I like the game and it is a definite purchase for me. As always, please try the demo. Happy gaming!

Hidden Expedition Altar of Lies is an appropriate title for this game as it turns out. After playing through the tedious and ridiculous demo, I still purchased the game hoping that it would get better since it ended on a cliff-hanger. Once I downloaded the full content I was left wondering why on earth I felt it would get better since the demo was so boring. I guess that cliff-hanger will grab me all the time. However, after trying to escape capture by the crooked and notorious gang of criminals named the Noble Scoundrels and racing to save my hide I next go off on a rather silly task to return a missing heart to a street mime; a task that requires me to waste time playing a sort of Rube-Goldberg puzzle/HOP scene to find the mime’s heart. Next I race into the subway station only to confront my partner who I presumed to be dead after his fall from a cliff in the clutches of a thug associated with the “Noble Scoundrels”. It was at this point I decided that the name of the game Altar of Lies is perfect as half the storyline is missing and is presumably left on the cutting room floor for this developer as they pared down the game to fit the now requisite three or four chapters per game.
It is games like this Hidden Expedition that result in more and more gamers losing interest in HOPA games. After all, many of us have been around for a while and have cut our gaming teeth on terrific games that were created by very capable, talented, and overall excellent game developers. If you now were offered games that had half the content of those wonderful games of yesteryear, wouldn’t you lose interest? It wouldn’t be so bad if the games were not padded out by cut scenes and time-filler puzzles. I would, quite frankly, not mind a shorter game if it had an excellent and sensible storyline along with great HOPS and tasks to complete. Yes, many of us are tired of the same old missing zipper pulls and broken glass knives that seem to pop up in every game that we find. What happened to the creative imagination of these world class developers?
Hidden Expedition Altar of Lies is the result of offering almost daily sales – something that never happened in the good old days. Don’t get me wrong, almost everyone loves a sale myself included, BUT if I found a wonderful game full of creativity that definitely took longer than two hours to complete I would gladly pay full price for that game. As it is now, the standard edition of a new HOPA game is release within a couple of weeks from the CE version that many gamers will now wait to purchase the game – again with one of those almost daily sales.
I long for an honest and terrific game but Altar of Lies is definitely not a game that I have found exciting or enjoyable. As I mentioned I purchased the game but found it plodding, nonsensical and definitely not a Hidden Expedition caliber game. I think it is time for Big Fish to take a look at what it is offering to its customer base and provide quality over quantity. They might be surprised to see its bottom line begin to grow as gamers come back to experience great quality games once again. Even though I was left rather disenchanted by Altar of Lies, please try the demo because you certainly might see something I didn’t. Happy gaming!
I don't recommend this game.
