Wow, awful sums up Holiday Adventures Hawaii. There really isn’t much to say about the game as it doesn’t offer much. If you want to hunt for items in various scenes, it won’t be long before you turn off the music. One would think that after the bad reviews on the developer’s previous game that they would have tried to improve Hawaii. The game is not horrible and some kid somewhere might like it, but this reviewer who has experience some top-notch HO games here at BFG will leave this one alone. As Always, please try the demo because you might find something to like about the game. Happy gaming!

Chris Andersen and his magic tattoo are back this time chasing down a wannabe Pinnochio. Although the storyline could be interesting I found the graphics to be cartoonish at times and then dull and dark.
Some of the HOP scenes were so dull and washed out that it was difficult to spot the required items. IMHO, EIPIX needs to return to its roots and emulate some of its earlier series and put more color and beauty into its games. To me the Andersen Accounts is simply another in a long string of EIPIX failures. End of story. Some of you might like this type of game but it certainly isn’t my cup of tea. As always, please try the demo before you buy since this game might be one you want to play. Happy gaming!

Skyland Heart of the Mountain is a surprisingly good game. I say surprisingly because I am not generally a fan of steam punk but I found myself absorbed in the gameplay and had a hard time stopping to write this review. Of course since I was enjoying the game I had to purchase it so that I could continue the story and adventure.
The graphics are great and create the futuristic atmosphere for the game. The characters are well depicted and the game has excellent voice overs. I am not overly fond of gadgets and I could have easily done without Uncle Leo’s futuristic glove. I personally found the mini-game that was attached to using the glove a bit annoying.
The HOPS contain variety with some being list type while others rely on silhouettes or finding various shapes. I found none of the HOPS to be difficult and they were enjoyable. The Puzzles were not too difficult except that I disliked the one attached to the glove. All in all both the HOPS and Puzzles were entertaining and added to the game. Although I found most of the HOPS and Puzzles to be rather middle of the road as far as challenge, I did find that I was not always sure what my next steps in the game should be and that kept the gameplay interesting.
I would like to point out, mainly because some people have questioned the opinion of another reviewer, that games are very subjective. What I might find to be not my cup of tea does not mean that a game might not be great for others. We are asked our opinion of any game and mine might often be different than yours. I happen to love Skyland Heart of the Mountain and find it to be an excellent game but that doesn’t mean that everyone will share my opinion. I purchased the game right away because I do like it but, as always, please try the demo to see if you will enjoy Skyland as well. Happy gaming!

A TERRIFIC GAME WITH SOME GREAT PUZZLES

Dark Romance the Hunchback of Notre-Dame is a surprising game that has some good news and then some bad news. In the past year I have become very tired of HOPA games that have become heavy on the “P” while cutting down on the “HO” aspect of my favorite genre. Recent games have been top heavy with nothing more than puzzle after puzzle BUT the great news about The Hunchback of Notre-Dame is that the puzzles are terrific and seem to fit well into the storyline. I am not overly fond of finding more puzzles than HO scenes but I loved the puzzles this time around. The puzzles were not simply gratuitous and thrown in because some gamers have been very vocal about wanting more puzzles, but they actually made sense to have them in the game.
Since I know there were so many eye-rolls, I would like to comment that I have read the original 1831 Victor Hugo classic. For all the purist I can only say that this is a game folks, and although the game takes far more than a few liberties with the original story IT IS STILL A GAME!
When I first started playing the Hunchback of Notre-Dame I didn’t think it was a game I would like for several reasons, primarily the dialogue and voice acting were terrible and really put me off. Esmeralda who should have been portrayed as sensuous with a smoky voice sounded more like a squeaky child. The next thing that I didn’t care for is the soundtrack where the music is awful. This is the first time that I have ever turned off the music in a game and it is unfortunate because the sound is something that I feel adds to the entire experience of playing a HOPA game. I would be very surprised if some of the beta testers did not complain about the music when they did the survey but of course it would be too late to ditch it and begin again with different music.
The HOS in the game did not really seem as good as they generally are in games from this developer. Domini is one of my favorite game developers and their HOPS have always been some of the best. However, I was not swept away by the HOS in this game primarily because of the style and that the items were very difficult to find in the first two HOS. There were a few scenes that I thoroughly enjoyed while others left me feeling quite ho-hum about the game.
For a gamer who does not like puzzles I was surprised by how much I loved the puzzles in the Hunchback. This is a CE game where I actually look forward to replaying some of my favorites in the bonus content for the game.
All in all even though the game is not a five-star game, I do feel that it deserves a solid four-star rating. Even though Dark Romance the Hunchback of Notre-Dame is one that I enjoyed, as always, please try the demo to see if this is the game for you. Happy gaming!

WOW, Domini has hit a home run with this game! This is for me the best game in the series and Domini got it right with Descent of the Elders, the fifth game in the Enchanted Kingdom series. The previous game received a 1-star review from me while Descent of the Elders is, IMHO, a solid 5-star game.
Something that has impressed me with Domini Games is that they always are striving to improve their games by listening to what we want. Since the beta for Descent of the Elders was released some significant changes were made to the game. Gone is the side pop-out bar that I found very distracting, and the collectibles are now indicated on the upper right side of the inventory panel. With the Custom Mode of gameplay we can now select our preferred Hint and Skip times within a range of 0 to 90 seconds. Thank you Domini for making those changes to the game!
The HOPS are so creative and well-designed in Descent of the Elders. There is variation in the types of scenes and a couple of my favorite style HOPS have returned. I really enjoyed two HOPS in particular the first one is where we find items by changing the colored lenses on a magnifying glass. My other favorite is the one where we locate items by sliding an overlay to find the matching items in various scenes. Both of those HOPS are wonderful but so are many of the others.
By now some of you know that I dislike having too many PUZZLES in games. However, most of the puzzles in Descent of the Elders are great fun and since they do not seem to be thrown in as game extenders, it does make sense to have them where they are placed in the gameplay. Since the game’s hero is the “Honored Healer” from the Medico Imperium we will be diagnosing illnesses and creating remedies. Each time we diagnose a patient we will need to solve several mini-games during the process and even though some of them are a bit challenging they are not classified as Rube-Goldberg puzzles. Overall the puzzles in the game are excellent with some being very easy and others really difficult. I Domini’s games have terrific puzzles so I always choose the easy setting when I set up my Custom Mode of gameplay but even then, some of the puzzles are difficult and I need to skip them or cheat by looking in the Strategy Guide.
In the end, I think Domini has “pulled out all the stops” to make Enchanted Kingdom Descent of the Elders an awesome game and one that I highly recommend. For lovers of fantasy type games it is definitely a must have. I purchased immediately after trying the demo and lost a lot of sleep last night because I couldn’t stop playing. Even though I love this game, please try the demo to see if it is one you will enjoy. Happy gaming!

Right at the start let me say that TM games are not my ordinary go-to genre when looking for a new game to play. That being said there are some great TM games that I own and love and I always grab up the sequels to those when they come along, but the "Fabulous" TM games don’t do it for me.
As Pennmom said in her review, we need to let the devs know what we like and what we would change if possible. For me there is only one thing and that would be change the games' settings to include an untimed mode of gameplay. I think I would love the Fabulous series of games if it was possible to play them in an untimed or relaxed mode. Without that option they seem too busy and too much like multitasking at work.
The graphics in Fabulous Angela’s True Colors are beautiful. Of course I also love fashion design as that has always been one of my dreams. The sound and everything about the game are top-notch as far as I’m concerned, but as I played I felt the pressure to get things done without dropping the ball. As I said, too much like work. If there was a relaxed mode I would have grabbed this game and loved it. Although the game might be too easy for some advanced TM gamers it could be a challenge for those who are new to playing TM games. In spite of the fact that I can’t play the game I'm giving it a solid 4-star rating because Fabulous Angela's True Colors deserves it.
For those of you who love TM games, I think this one is beautiful and a rather happy bouncy game to enjoy. Even though this one isn’t for me, please try the demo because it might be perfect for you. Happy gaming!

The Secret City is a magical place where mystical and powerful beings live hidden alongside the human race. Many years ago Tenebris, the princess of the Merfolk, killed her father to take over the Merfolk kingdom. The ambitious princess had her sights set on the Secret City as well since she wanted to become the supreme ruler of all mystical beings. Fortunately the revolt was stopped and after her generals were killed Tenebris and the Merfolk Kingdom disappeared. Now the petrified body of a renowned Dwarven explorer has washed up on the shoreline and your friend Sakir needs your help. Sakir believes that the death of Bolrekin Nibley is somehow related to the Merfolk Kingdom and it could mean bad news for the Secret City. Will you and Sakir be able to solve the case and find out what this means for the future of the Secret City.
I loved the first game in this new series “London Calling” that was released last year and since that time I’ve been waiting for the next game to appear and today my wait is over. I played the beta for the game a few months ago and I knew it would be a game that I would love. The Sunken Kingdom is everything I thought it would be and more. The only issue for me is that there are far more puzzles than HOP scenes in the game. The HOPS in the game are very well-crafted but they are outnumbered by puzzles. Even though I enjoy HOPS more than I do puzzles, the puzzles in this game are entertaining and fun to solve. Thankfully there are some puzzles that rely on using one’s brain rather than simply twist this and then twist that to solve.
Another critique of the game is the offering of a pseudo Custom game setting. If a developer is going to offer a Custom setting it implies that the gamer can choose to set the game up the way they want to play. In recent games the developer sets the lower end of the time settings for skipping puzzles or getting hints. Sometimes it might be 10 seconds or even 15 seconds but I believe that the gamer should be able to change that to fit their needs. I tend to be a bit impatient and when I want or need a hint I don’t want to hang around and wait. Please developers allow us to select that bottom range for ourselves. I realize it is a time-stretcher when we must wait to skip a puzzle but why even offer a Custom setting when we cannot set the hint and skip times?
Overall The Sunken Kingdom is an excellent game with a well laid out storyline. I love the premise of having a hidden city within London that only a few can see or find. Kudos to BFG and the developer for coming up with this interesting new idea. I have enjoyed playing the game well into the wee hours of the morning and find it to be one of the best games that I have played recently. It was refreshing to see a mystery game that didn’t have some evil monster hiding in a decrepit and dark haunted house. As always, I recommend that you try the demo to see if Secret City the Sunken Kingdom is a game that you will enjoy as much as me. Happy gaming!

Without a doubt this is one of the best and most beautiful solitaire games that I have played making it a definite buy for me.
Not only do we have the usual (and by the way much overused) one up or one down type of solitaire there are additional bonus level type solitaire games that we can play. What makes this game special for me are the gorgeous graphics with the wintery scenes. I love this game and even the gameplay that still manages to be fun and entertaining.
The soundtrack of the game is so soothing and relaxing which makes it perfect for this wonderful Jewel Match Solitaire Winterscapes game. As always please try the demo to see if you will enjoy this game. Happy gaming!

Like another reviewer I loved Road Trip USA and found it such a fun game with so much to do that I knew immediately that Road Trip Europe would be a definite buy for me. I absolutely love almost everything about this game and all it has to offer. The only thing I dislike is the music which I had to turn down low. The music in this game is definitely not for me as I absolutely hate repetitive music themes. That being said I still love the game and with the music almost muted the game is so much fun. I love the old school HO game and all of its variations that keep the game fresh and fun. There are times when I tired of HOPA games that seem to have the same storyline over and over again so it is terrific to find something old that can be new again.
If you happen to want a great HO game to play that offers a great replay value, then give Road Trip Europe a try. I hope you will enjoy the game as much as me. Happy gaming!

It has been three years since the release of the last game in the Nevertales series and I think this one was worth waiting for. Nevertales The Abomination is a creative game and, at least for me, this one is far better than the last several in a series that had lost its direction and flair. The Abomination is the tale of a creator who has basically lost his muse and his direction. Will the creator be able to rise and save the world of Ballard and its four realms or will he eventually destroy all that he had created?
The graphics and sound package for The Abomination are terrific. As we travel to the four realms we are treated to the beauty that was created by the Author and wonder how he would think of destroying it all. As usual we find all of the bells and whistles that come with a CE game and particularly the in-game Strategy Guide that did provide some helpful information when I was stuck.
The Abomination is a great game with some beautiful and varied HOPS. My biggest issue with the HOPS is that again a developer is making the items we need to find almost invisible. This was very apparent with the first HOP when not only were the items almost transparent they were often very small. It is only my opinion because others might like the challenge of finding transparent items in a scene, but I believe there is a far better way to increase the difficulty factor than by resorting to a tactic that is sure to strain the eyes of many older gamers.
The Abomination is yet another game that has far more puzzles than HOPS but since I did enjoy the puzzles in the game I’m not complaining. I found the puzzles to be mostly a bit easy but some were tricky to figure out. The game included some favorite puzzles such as the one where I needed to switch and rotate parts of a picture in order to see the correct image.
Although creating potions and casting spells are not my favorite things to do in a game, I still enjoyed Nevertales The Abomination because of its beautiful graphics as well as the creative storyline. This is a game that is has a lot of tasks to complete and actions that kept me engaged as I moved through the story. I felt the pace of the game was right for me and that the mix of puzzles, HOPS and adventure kept me entertained and involved right from the beginning of the game. Although I feel that Nevertales The Abomination is an excellent game, please try the demo to see if it is one you will enjoy. Happy gaming!
