A late-night subway ride takes a bizarre turn into a mystical cemetery. You have been summoned by a strange entity to free the cemetery’s lost souls. Will you succeed, or is this the end of the line?
Redemption Cemetery: Salvation is IMHO the best of all the Redemption Cemetery games to date.
The game starts as you are riding the subway and it makes an unscheduled stop at a cemetery where your dog is kidnapped by Hina, who gives you the task of aiding three troubled ghosts before she will release your dog. This is where your fun and challenge begins.
It goes without saying that the graphics are terrific. ERS is my favorite game developer, and they prove with this game that they keep raising the bar with each new offering that comes to market. I love the artwork and creativity that the ERS team has given us with the latest edition of the Redemption Cemetery series. Along with the artwork and quality graphics we have excellent audio with music, realistic voice-overs, and ambient sounds. Of course, I love the animals that appear throughout the game. I have said it many times before, IMO that no developer does animals as well as ERS, and the ones in this game are exceptional. Being a huge fan of dogs in general, I immediately fell in love with “my” kidnapped cocker spaniel who I will work to retrieve throughout the game. In order to assist us with the various challenges we encounter on our journey, Hina provides us with a raven companion. What is fun in this game is that we must first activate the raven’s abilities before he will assist with various tasks. You can’t simply ask your raven to do something but must solve a puzzle first, which adds to the challenge and enjoyment of the game.
As with the other Redemption Cemetery games we have stories within the story that make it easier to leave the game when real-life calls and return to it at a later time.
Redemption Cemetery: Salvation is truly a CE value that is loaded with extras. Among the extras we can earn medallions to unlock mini games. According to the strategy guide we can replay 23 mini games as well as hidden object scenes. Another plus with the game mechanics is an interactive map that allows us to jump from one location to another. The map also indicates if there is an objective or something to accomplish in a specific location.
I recommend that you demo the game to see what fun the ERS team has cooked up this time - an excellent 5-star CE that you shouldn’t miss!
When the entire audience disappears from a film screening at an old theater, you must go behind the scenes to find out who is running the mysterious Nightmare Cinema.
Fear For Sale Nightmare Cinema is a game with that wow factor that had me from the beginning. It didn't take long to figure out that I had to have this one. In the beginning of the story you are called upon by Lily, the fiance of one of your colleagues, to find him. It seems that Adam was invited to the cinema by a college friend and hasn’t been seen since. It is up to you to find him and solve the mystery.
I have to admit that this is the first game in quite a while that just grabbed me from the very first scene. The artwork is top-notch and the graphics quality is excellent. The voice-overs are believable and add to the quality of the game.
The developer has obviously been listening to what we want in a game and has pulled out all the stops. We have morphing objects. We have collectibles to find and we are awarded points throughout the game on the various types and number of collectibles found. We have an interactive map that lets us know where something needs to be completed. The journal or diary not only gathers important information it also keeps a tab on your points and the collectibles you’ve earned. The developer has included the basic options of gameplay BUT has included a custom feature where you can select exactly how you want to play. What an awesome idea.
Many devs are now including an option in their HOS to switch to match 3 or mahjong but with this game we now have an option to build a jigsaw puzzle. How clever but since I like both HOS and jigsaws it can be a difficult choice – LOL. I’ve only encountered a couple of puzzles up to this point and they don’t seem overly difficult, which is great. I like puzzles in a game but I don't want them to be so frustrating that it takes away from my enjoyment of the game.
As I said in my title, too bad I can only give it 5 stars because the wow factor and extras in this game definitely qualify it as a 10 star game. It looks like Fear For Sale Nightmare Cinema could become one of the top games of 2013.
It’s here at last – Puppet Show Destiny Undone, and IMO it was worth the wait! Unlike some who may think this series should have long ago reached its end, I think the story just keeps getting more interesting.
We can always count on the great artistic talents of the bunny team to give us excellent graphics that always have their special touch. If I had any complaints about the game (yes, there are a few) among them are the voices of Felicia and the boy. While Felicia's voice is grating and annoying, the boy’s voice sounds way too old for his character. My other complaint is the tool fan. I wish that would go away forever. I much prefer the tool box/inventory to be located at the bottom of the screen. Now that I have my negatives out of the way, on to the good stuff that makes this game five-star.
Some may think the puzzles in the game easy and many are, but I have stumbled across some that are quite challenging. The HOS are good with items that are fairly easy to find. We have asked many times for the inclusion of an interactive map and we have one in this game. We also have many extras that add up to make this a CE worthy game. One of my favorite things in the game is my puppet helper – a bit different than the furry little friends we have in some games but I think he is cute.
I have read the comments where some think that Puppet Show Destiny Undone is the same old thing - find this, use it here but in reality all of the HO games we play, no matter who the devs might be, are the same, which is the basic premise of the HOPA genre. So let's give the bunny team a break guys!
Admittedly, ERS is one of my absolutely favorite game developers and I am thrilled to see this addition to the Puppet Show series. You should try the demo and at least give this game a fair trial before making up your own mind. For me, it was an instant buy and I love it.
I don't know how I missed this fun little game but somehow I did. When I had one of those days with nothing else to play, I started searching the puzzle games section and found Arabesque. It reminds me of a game I played years ago but lost somewhere along the way.
Arabesque is a nice game that can sometimes be a bit of a challenge if things get out of hand, but all in all it's just an easy relaxing game to play when you have a bit of time. A game that you don't have to play to the end and can just pick up when the mood strikes.
I found Arabesque easy to play, no real instructions needed because you catch on fast. My recommendation is that you try this little gem of a game to see if you find it as much fun as I do.
Phenomenon – Meteorite is an absolutely stunning game! Quite honestly, I don’t remember being “blown away” by the previous Phenomenon game but this game has that wow factor right from the beginning.
In Phenomenon – Meteorite we are on a quest with Daniel as he searches for his missing parents on a mysterious island. When we arrive on the island we meet Gloria who has seemingly been waiting for Daniel to arrive, and who acts as his guide during his journey. Gloria advises Daniel to find amulets that will unlock his “abilities” that will help him with his mission.
The game opened automatically in widescreen with no adjustments necessary. Some of the other operational aspects of the game include two modes of gameplay (that can be changed during the game’s progress), a journal, and a very helpful interactive map.
Needless to say, the graphics are incredible and quite beautiful. The music score is very nice and goes well with the game. What I find that I really like are the voice-overs. Daniel’s voice is very much like it should be for that of a young man. Where this game really excels in voices is the voice of Gloria. So often in games we have older voices trying to simulate a child’s voice only to sound tinny and squeaky. Gloria’s voice is so good and sounds very realistic for her character.
Those of us who play HOPA games all the time have been asking for something different from just the standard “seek and find” scenes. In Phenomenon – Meteorite we have what we’ve been asking for. The HOS are so interesting that I hated for them to end. Without giving too much away, there is a component of time travel in this game – something I always enjoy.
IMHO, Phenomenon – Meteorite is going to be right up at the top of the list with some of the better games released this year. The developers have presented us with a game that has an interesting story, gorgeous graphics, interesting puzzles and wonderful HOS. Kudos to the development team for an excellent game!
We have previously had two games in this series, and IMHO this is probably the best. I really am enjoying the story. We are on a mission to harness the evil brother before the eclipse that will occur in a matter of hours.
The game uses the same mechanic as the other two games of changing darkness to light or vice versa to see what was not previously visible. I enjoy the moving from one time period to the next by just changing the light. It's almost like having two games in one. The game's graphics are very good as are the music and voice overs. However, I am always thrown off in a game when I hear voices but the characters have no lip movement. I think they must communicate telepathically.
The HOS are a bit different in that we have a combination of "place the object" and then find objects on lists. What I love about this game are the puzzles. Very, very good puzzles.
Since I have been waiting for the next game in this series having replayed the previous two, I am delighted that we have this game today. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do.
The Secret Order: Masked Intent is the age-old story of the desire for riches and ultimate power. We have an interesting well-told story that is a bit different from the usual fare of witches and kidnapped fiancés. Although the story is very interesting, it takes a bit of time to get going so it doesn’t “knock you out of your socks” from the get-go. It is a good story though, and one that you gradually pulls you in.
The game has beautiful and colorful graphics that at times appear crisper than others. We have options for widescreen, which on my laptop was automatic with no adjustments required. Given the graphics and artwork in some more recent games, although these are excellent, I think some of the characters seem a bit "flat" and in some respects a bit cartoonish. There is nice musical score that is not too overpowering or obnoxious (at least I didn’t feel like putting it on mute) and it fits the story well. I like the voice-overs, which are very nicely done.
The game is your typical HOPA with a few different puzzles, none of which seemed overly difficult. If I were to have any complaint with the game it would be the HOS which seem dark with some small objects that are very difficult to find. Not to worry though because, thankfully, we have the option to switch to a mahjong game. I must say that even the mahjong option proved tricky. On several occasions I ended up going back to the search and had to use a hint to find that ever-elusive last item.
My overall opinion is that this is a very good game, and one that many of you will find excellent. I recommend that you try the demo to see if you like it.
European Mystery: Scent of Desire is the story of a detective (you of course) who is trying to solve a rash of deaths of women who have been killed by dehydration. I’m finding the story quite interesting and enjoy the things I need to do in order to solve the mystery. Can you sniff out the killer?
Although some have commented on the “foggy” appearance of the graphics, I think that only some scenes appear that way and most of the game has crisp, clear graphics. I like a game that is colorful, and this one certainly fits the bill for me. As a note, I found moving from scene to scene to be seamless with no time delay whatsoever. The person who commented that this was a problem may have issues related to their computer rather than the game. Along with a very nice musical score, we also have good voice-overs. The HOS are mildly challenging but not frustrating. Most of the puzzles are very enjoyable but I found one that just drove me nuts and I finally hit the skip button.
The CE edition of the game has achievements and some bonus hidden objects to be found. Pay attention, because some of them are very well hidden.
After reading some of the early reviews, I purchased the game outright and I am happy with that decision. I find Scent of Desire to be a game well-worth adding to my collection and am sure that I will play it more than once.
As a final note, I think we should all look for future games from this developer because recently they have presented some very nice games, and I think they will only get better. Kudos for a very nice, entertaining game.
Dreamscapes The Sandman is a very nice HOPA game without actual HO scenes. There is a lot to do and find and many puzzles to solve along the way. We also have achievements that can be earned as we progress on our journey to save Laura from the sandman.
The graphics in the game are excellent – very crisp and clear. Also when the game opened it did so in widescreen with no adjustments or buttons to tick to make it happen. The game has two modes of play – regular and expert. I played in regular mode and found some of the puzzles a bit difficult but that had to do more with my dexterity than brain power – lol. There are voice overs that are really good and believable. Overall the sound is quite good. Although the game seems initially a bit dreary, it is has a lot of color.
I found the story to be quite interesting and of good length. In all with just a few short breaks, it took me about six hours to complete. During the course of the story we get to meet Laura and her friend Tim, along with Laura’s “guardian” Benny, who I love. The game turned out to be quite surprising and I am looking forward to a sequel.
If you like adventure/puzzle games be sure to try this one.
Wow, BFG and ERS have really "pulled it out of the hat" and given us such a beautiful game. Well done!!
IMHO, the developer has added so many extras and special touches to this game that it would be a shame to miss getting the CE.
As always, the graphics are great but we have even more imagination and color in Adaza Elemental. Not only do we have a furry helper, we get to name him and then find achievements throughout the game to build a wardrobe. How fun.
As a first for this developer, we have an interactive map. Kudos for this addition because it makes it so much easier to navigate.
I'm not going to go into all the details but will just say that I think this is truly a CE in all ways. Love the game and suggest that you at least try the demo and see if it is right for you.
