I did not understand why others had bad reviews unless they thought this was an adult challenge game. I thought it was a very cute and unique story line, a little humor and non-adult, simple fun. I also had no problem downloading and playing, so not sure what issue others had. Costs nothing to play trial and I would recommend a peek if you are a true HO fan, and clearly there is a lack of true HO/puzzle games anymore, just excessive inventory. So, if we are reduced to child games if we don't want to be mechanical engineers, then here is one that might work for you.
I was so excited to preview this, thinking along the lines of Madame Fate and Return to Ravenhearst (one true HO and creative puzzles, and one that had inventory, but it was in good balance and appropriateness with HO, creative puzzles). Was very disappointed to see that this game appears to follow along the lines of almost everything else under HO and puzzle category, relentless and tedious gathering of inventory and wandering around and around trying to find place for them. I am sure that those who love to put things together and love inventory activity will love this game, but I am an adult, and a sw engineer, not a child, who loves and gets enjoyment from the original MCF formula; primarily HO, and creative dark funny puzzles, don't mind some inventory as long as it doesn't drown out everything else. The same games are thrown into HO and puzzle games now and most of them should be in another category called Inventory. If a game is mostly HO, should be in HO; if mostly puzzle should be in puzzle; if mostly inventory, should be in inventory. If equally balanced, then put in all 3. I had one HO scene after playing this game a while, rest of it inventory. Not fun for me.
Even though I don't enjoy wandering around, back and forth, relentlessly finding and using inventory items, this game incorporated enough hidden object scenes and fun creativity to make it very enjoyable for me. Would definitely recommend.
Finally, another true HO and puzzle game sequel. Even though family easy, a refreshing and fun change to relentless inventory, little HO, puzzle games that are alike except for storylines. Hopefully waiting for Madame Fate sequels. Will always buy Big City Adventures without need of trial, have them all!
It seems that almost all hidden object puzzle games assume, and rightly so, given reviews, that everyone wants less Hidden Object and more inventory type stuff. I want the opposite; my favorite game was Madame Fate because it was only hidden object and very unique, clever, funny mini games. Loved the creativity of embedded objects and the story. I also loved Madame Fate where others complained about her. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. THIS GAME, I really liked because it was hidden object and just simple fun, cute. The others that were like the original MCFs that were just clever hidden object and puzzles were the Big City Adventures and some others. Inventory games seem to be the same to me, eternal movement trying to figure out where to use inventory like an adventure game, monotonous to me unless like MCF return to ravenhearst. Anyway, I thought cute game.
I have all the Big City Adventure games, always buy them, no trial needed. Family fun, cute and unique variety of mini-games in each, learning experience in a lot of fun ways. Long-playing and scores allow us to compete for fun. Said level of challenge OK because this is fun and light challenge, meant to be that way.
I was surprised to see the mediocre reviews. I thought this game was great fun, different. I have even looked for a sequel many times, but none. I guess when it comes to reviews, "fun" is in the eye of the beholder, like movies. So if you are unsure, would certainly play free trial to see.
Sometimes, after watching a movie like "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo", however excellent, you are in the mood to watch Bambi? This game is kind of like that or for kids. I thought it was charming and fun. I thought it had just the right amount of challenge finding hidden objects, cute puzzles. There are 5 hints in most scenes, so plenty for me, but I have a large screen. If you are in the mood for cute, innocent fun, would recommend.
The residents of Bitterford, Maine have fallen prey to a terrible curse. It’s up to you to unravel the series of mysterious events that led to the town’s downfall and uncover the evil that was responsible.
As a die-hard MCF fan, Shadow Lake, even though it is not spewing fireworks so to speak, it lives up to my MCF expectation of unique creativity, witty humor, different twists on mini games, different spins on hidden object finds, and other subtle things; hard to beat some other MCF games. This game is fun for me because it didn't stray from the formula of MCF methodology and incorporated some non-clone creativity that I have come to expect from MCF. If you are an experienced MCF player, you should have fun figuring out what the game wants from you. If not, the HINT function is excellent. Personally, I buy each new MCF sight unseen based on historical quality of those games from my perspective.
