This game is great, as are all the games from this developer. It is a true HOPA, not just a HOG with a few puzzles thrown in. No HO is repeated more than once. The puzzles/minigames are different from the norm, and some are difficult but most are medium. This game is not gory, but it does show some disturbing half-skeletons, so not really for kids. It is really eerie and the storyline is intriguing. You have to figure out what role the beauty queen's brother plays in the evil scheme; I like a bit of mystery. This game is also VERY long! I don't know the exact number of hours (I really should start timing these games lol), but it took me several days of spending several hours per day to finish it. Overall, I highly recommend this game!

I love this developer! Their HOPAs are really HOPAs, not just HOGs with a few puzzles. Each HO is only repeated once. City of Fog is the first in the Dark Dimensions series; I personally like the second one, Wax Beauty, better, but this one is great too. As I said, it is a good mix of HO, adventure and puzzles. It is also very long, it took me several days of several hours a day to finish it. I don't use the hint button. The atmosphere is eerie, and it is set roughly 100 year ago, so very nice ambience. There is also a bit of a mystery with this game, trying to figure out whodunnit. That's always nice! This is a wonderful game from a wonderful developer!
Waste of $2.99....do not listen to other reviewers!

I tried this game, and really liked the HO scenes. They are more difficult than usual, but in no way impossible. It was more like a real life junk scene, rather than contrived. That however, was all I liked. I bought this game because everyone said it was very long, which is a main factor for me. IT IS SHORT!! Maybe 3 hours, and that's with minimal use of hints in HO scenes, which take up the majority of the time. If you do get this game, you will want to use the hint button when you are through with a task; it will tell you which HO to go back to. Otherwise you spend your time looking at every location every time you need a tool. The story was ok, but it had potential to be so much more. Like many HOPAs, it is really just a HOG, which I find extremely disappointing. There are a few puzzles that are very easy.

I played the first in this series, and liked it more than this one. Having said that, it is still a really good game. It is not as long as the first one. I play on Hard Core, so I get no hints, and I did get stuck a few times because I had missed an area to explore (like under a curtain, or in a pond.) The storyline could've been so much better. The premise is good, but then it doesn't really develop. Maybe the CE does more, I don't know. Like the first in this series, the HO scenes are repeated only once, which I like. I really hate having to go back through the whole game to find a repeat HO to get what I need. There are many HO scenes, but a lot of adventure and puzzles in between. I usually find that HOPAs are mainly HO not much PA ;) Very nice graphics, puzzles are not your run-of-the-mill ones, yet none are hard. Overall a good game!

This game is great! It's got a good storyline, very creepy. The graphics are also excellent. A big plus for me is that it is LONG. I mean really long! I played it on the Hard Core setting, because I prefer to work things out myself. It was not a hard game, but there is lots to do. The hidden object scenes are only repeated once each, so you don't have to keep going back to the beginning to search for a HO scene to find what you need. There is a map that lets you jump around when needed. This is a HOPA, but more on the adventure than HO. I mean, there are lots of HO scenes, but lots of adventure and puzzles in between. I found this a refreshing change from Mystery Trackers, which used to be a good series but the last two were so boring. There are no "impossible" puzzles, in fact most are medium or easy. One thing if you play on Hard Core, they don't tell you how to solve the puzzles, you have to figure it out on your own. But again, they are not hard. The puzzles are not your normal HOPA puzzles, some are quite intriguing, if not hard. If you like a great storyline, a long adventure, and nicely done HOPAs, then this is the game for you!

I have played all the Mystery Trackers games, so maybe take my review with a grain of salt. I loved the Void and Black Isle, and Raincliff was my favorite. The Four Aces I thought the developers just kind of phoned in, not really well thought out or long. When I read the reviews for Silent Hollow, I was so excited, it seemed like everyone thought it was the best! Maybe I've just gotten to used to the Mystery Trackers games, but I thought this one was really boring. No real adventure, just find this object to open this object to get this object...repeat. Elf's use was extremely limited. The music is the same music used for the Four Aces. Boooring. The pluses: The graphics are excellent, as usual. The game is pretty long. Hidden object scenes are not repeated. The game is pretty much linear, not too much going back and forth, and the map can zoom you to wherever you need to go.

I was really excited when I read the reviews, because it seemed like this game would be different, and more of a challenge. I even saw one reviewer say it didn't have too many HOS....are you freakin' kidding me? They are everywhere! Also, the puzzles were fairly easy. I did take one reviewer's advice and leave the tutorial on until it finished, and this helps you get started. Although the only real help you need is to know that Oscar the robot stores your tasks, data, and map. This game was also very short. You are on a planet, and immediately you know your objective: to get the other ship on the planet ready for takeoff. There are only 35 "stops" in between the start and finish, and while you do have to go back and forth alot, it just isn't enough. And at the end you get the last critical pieces all through HOS, which I find very lazy of the programmers. Also, the noise Oscar makes when his hint button is recharged is very annoying, and it keeps happening throughout the game, not just in the HOS. Which is stupid because you can only use the hint button in an HOS!! It is not the same old "dark" HOPA game, so that was nice, but the storyline (which was just "get to the other ship") was poor. Skip this game unless you want to be bored.

This is a dark story, a madman is kidnapping people. I won't tell you what he does with them, I don't like to tell to much of the story. It is a very long game, which I always look for. The music and graphics are very good. You will not be one bit disappointed with this game!
This game was wonderful! It is very long, and the music and atmosphere really suck you in to the story. It is not difficult, but it isn't too easy. Turn down the lights, turn up the volume, and have a wonderful time!

After reading the most recent review, I was skeptical about this game. But I decided to try the demo, and when my hour was up I decided to buy it (on sale $2.99). I wanted to see what happened next! The game is about average length, not too short. The graphics are like Scooby-Doo (the original series) and so I loved them. This is not a HOG at all, or even a FROG. It is straight up adventure and puzzles. You do have to find pieces of an item, but it is not in a "hidden" setting among a junk-pile, just randomly scattered about in different locations and relatively easy to find. The puzzles are doable, some really easy others take a few tries. Oh, and one reviewer said that on the harder level that the active areas sparkled, but they didn't; they must have accidentally played on casual, or either this game has been updated. I found it quite enjoyable!
