You might be a Match 3 fan who likes a bit of HOG thrown in.
You are possibly a dyed-in-the-wool Match 3 fan who cares not one jot for HOGs.
BUT, if you hate Match 3, do not try this game.
There are 5 modes of play: * Normal (timed with adventure) * Relaxed (untimed with adventure but limited moves) * Lazy Day (untimed, unlimited moves with adventure) * Match 3 maniac (timed, no adventure) * Match 3 maniac (untimed, no adventure)
Graphics are good, especially on the intro. You have a voice there but not once you get into the game.
The game play area is bigger that the screen so you have to scroll around looking for areas to 'attack' (I imagine this will provide good challenge for expert M3 players).
I played 'Lazy Day' as I am a rank amateur, enjoy a bit of a story and hate timed games. I really enjoyed it and found it very relaxing.
The story is no prize winner, but is engaging enough.
The runestone that has protected the town of Neverville for centuries has disappeared. Now, the evil necromancer Grimhall is threatening its people. Can you save them from this grim fate?
Yep, you've guessed it, he's escaped again and is going about his nefarious deeds with the help of wolf spirits and a traitorous local. But, do not fear, a guardian has arrived in her bodycon armour and will no doubt save the day!
Despite the fact that the story is nothing really new, it is a fun game with a good level of challenge.
HOSs were all simple lists and are revisited at least once. Some items are very small, but they are all pretty doable, you can just skip after a while if you get fed up or use a hint.
I liked the puzzles, variations on familiar formats, but not as straightforward as you may at first think.
Three modes of play can ramp up the challenge further (Normal/Hard/Detective) In the descriptions of each level it mentions "achievement items" and I got a bit excited, but I haven't come across anything out of the ordinary and it may only mean 'pick-ups'.
No map or journal so be prepared to track back if you have been given a clue and maybe have a notebook to hand. The hint does allow you to jump to the required location so, if you know where you want to go, you can use it as a jump map. No penalties, but it does take a little while to recharge.
My only complaint was the interaction with other characters. The voices were good, the graphics realistic but I like to read the narrative and, if they speak slowly, click to continue. Now it may just be my poor old eyes but the writing looked very blurry to me and gave me a headache! :-((
That aside, it is a perfectly nice game. Ideal for a sale day or a game coupon. I will be buying tomorrow and getting my punch!
I recommend this game!

Dreampath: The Two Kingdoms Collector's Edition
Your sister, the Queen, has fallen deathly ill. Now you must travel to a faraway kingdom to find the cure.
OK, let's get some things out of the way first to clear up any doubts: * This is NOT a difficult game. If you want high levels of challenge, look elsewhere. * Yes, there is an animal to rescue and you can, if you wish, collect hidden coins (30 gold/30 silver) to do up its room. However, this is not a cutesy animal and he wouldn't dream of doing a silly dance or dressing up. He just gives you a polite round of applause if you buy something for his study. * The HOSs have beautifully drawn, large items. There are a few simple interactions in each, word lists, a 15x object challenge and a silhouettes one. No squinting needed here. * Puzzles are different, most very straightforward, some requiring some logical thinking.
For those of you who are still reading, it is a lovely game to play. * The graphics are well done, the characters are realistic and the VOs are lip-synchronised. * There is a journal to record clues found on the way * A jump map tells you where to find actions and objectives * Your cat will fetch things fo you.
Things are not completely straightforward. If you are still stuck on the first scene through the mirror, well so was I for a while but that was the first 'out of the box' thing. You don't use matches or torches to light fires (not in the demo at least) so, although easy to play, you cannot be complacent.
All in all, I found it delightful and will be treating myself very shortly.
Do give it a try and stick with it (my trial lasted 64 minutes)
There is nothing to really dislike about this game. It is fun to play, has all the tools you need (jump map, directional hint) for game play support and many collectibles that are enjoyable to look out for: * Statues * Animals * Missing person posters
The graphics are a bit grainy at times, but in the zoom-ins they are good enough.
The music is background and soothing most of the time. The 'gongs' when something was found/completed became a bit annoying.
HOSs are all lists with 2 interactive items. Very simple in the main, but some items a bit tricky to find.
Puzzles so far are pretty straightforward.
But hey, today's sale means it only costs me £2:69 so is now added to my collection to play when we have a bit of a dearth or I have no connection to download.
Give it a try, especially if you want a nice intro to HOGs.
Now, I am not one for 'free' games, normally. I was very disappointed when I saw this as TGT.
HOWEVER, 2 hours later I have made myself stop playing to write up this review.
If you like HOGs needing a bit of strategy and don't mind revisiting the same places and finding the same items (although often in different places), interacting with the same characters as they 'need' different things and can locate fairly small things quickly, then you will love this.
I am lucky that I have no small children who could spend loads of money and have enough 'nouse' to work out how to get the supplies I need without paying.
Music was soothing, graphics a little disappointing after the intro but I did get hooked and might just keep this one!
Definitely recommend you give it a go, but lock up your computer if you share it!
I began trialling this with a measure of trepidation. On noting that this was episode 2, I checked out the reviews of episode 1 and they did not fill me with any great cheer.
However, based on my experience this morning, it looks as though the developers have taken on board many of the comments and tried to address them, which is a good move on their parts.
I turned brightness to full on the options menu and saw that the cursor control was already set to max and off I went.
The bad news is that you do seem to have to play episode 1 to thoroughly follow the tale, but I soon picked it up.
There is a lot of reading to do, but there is a VO too so you can just listen if you want. I did enjoy the language our heroine used.
Basically you are searching scenes to find key artefacts which will free the souls trapped in the Book. All are lists and some of the objects are tiny, but I never once used magnifying glass or lantern tools to help. Some give access to bonus screens which are scrollable (but hint not available in these!). You have to click on the scene and drag to move the perspective. There are also areas where the cursor changes to gears.
A couple of the scenes had a lens and this showed up previously invisible objects (took me a little while to work this out, doh!)
Every now and then you earn ink and this allows you to upgrade your lantern, magnifying glass or improve the hint (as each time you use it, it becomes slower to recharge, I think)
All in all, for anyone who hates stories, fantasy and gimmicks but loves HOGs, this could be a good choice. It's not to my personal taste but I recommend you try it if you are looking for something different.
Oh, wow! The moment I hear the Eipix music I get a shiver down my spine! I just love their games and this one most certainly didn't disappoint me.
This game is absolutely loaded with pixies, fairies and leprechauns so if you don't like these, you may as well stop reading now! I love fairy tales and the creatures in this tale, though adorable, are not 'cutesy', some of them are quite feisty!
I don't tell you the story so, if you want to know what happens, read another review. But I will tell you the fantastic features of the game which are guaranteeing I buy this game immediately.
The music is absolutely delightful. I could have listened to that haunting intro music all day. I hope, for once, that this is one of those games which plays the intro every time you revisit after a break. Normally I skip to carry on with the game, but I won't this time!
Graphics in play and VOs are superb.
This is great CE value (especially with the fantastic sale today). You have: * 4 levels of challenge: Scribe/Archivist/Chronicler/Custom * 17 achievements to earn; some with extra stars for higher level achievement * 36 hidden fairy shoes to collect * Replayable HOSs and puzzles * Bubbleshooter game * Titania's Crown (on completion) * Golden wings to find (in bonus HOSs if I remember rightly) * Bonus chapter * Music/making of etc * Jumpable map with location, actions and objectives * Q & A 'puzzles' form some of the conversations you have with characters * A 'Monocle of True Vision' to break spells
Puzzles are (so far) fairly straightforward but enjoyable
HOSs are great (so far) with some unique twists on the usual processes. I loved them!
My favourite thing is 'The Pig's Lament for his Lost Nose Ring'. It is so funny!
I cannot praise this enough. OK, it is not a very challenging game and may disappoint some for that, but it is challenging enough for me and DELIGHTFUL! Do try it and see for yourselves!
Well, what a great addition to the Shadow Wolf series. I have 2 already and cannot believe I missed number 3 somehow (is downloading as I type!)
A nice long demo (90 mins and I played for 88) gets you really into the story and there are lots of 'jump' moments to keep you on the edge of your seat.
I won't, as ever, go into the story detail as you need to experience all the surprises and perplexities of this tale. Suffice to say, if you have Cynophobia, then do not go near this!
Game features and CE bling are very good.
* Map: jumpable and shows location, active areas and completed areas * Magnifier: to use on each new character and find clues (I liked this a lot!) * Analyser tool: Found this a bit pointless as it was obvious what most of the substances were, but an extra bit of fun * Achievements to earn (15) * Werewolf related artefacts to find * A blank book: not sure what this is yet * Three levels of play: Casual/Advanced/Hard * Strategy Guide: Never use it so no info
Characters are good and convincing (lack of lip synch doesn't bother me) Lots of ambient sound, especially howling and barking
A variety of HOSs, though each is revisited very quickly. Lots of good interactive features and some head scratching required. Also some items are a bit picky so if you are certain you are right, keep trying!
Puzzles are pretty straightforward and you can opt for a harder challenge.
This is a definite buy for me and playing the trial is highly recommended.
Well...it was better than the first one, which I played before playing this to get a feel for changes and improvements. (What happened to DA2 by the way?)
Graphics are certainly better and it feels more up-to-date, there is a decent story line but, a couple of times I saw pick-ups but, when I selected the first one, the window closed. Thereafter the hint kept sending me back to the lantern near the gate, but no action to perform.
Just found I was going in circles and became very frustrated so will not be getting this daily deal :-((
Although a little old fashioned now, this is a good HOG for beginners. A straightforward game with an interesting hint system in the HOSs and puzzles, though easy, are skippable.
Graphics are pretty basic by today's standards, especially the link scenes which are comic style.
If you are looking at today's Daily Deal and want to try a similar game, then this could be the one.
