As other reviewers have said, it has so much potential.
Personally I loved the soothing, classical music, but hated the 'tension-building' themes and 'spooky' noises - so unnecessary!
Graphics were terrible - nearly gave up at the 'bath search' and resorted to some language when a 'mop' turned out to be a rag. When it comes to just clicking on anything 'in case' then something is very wrong.
Puzzles were too easy and I don't count cluttered blurry HOs as a challenge.
I hope developers take note and redo this as it could be a fantastic game.
Even with this weekends offer/a coupon available/a punch card to fill I will not be buying this game.
I love it because: - it has a jump map - it has achievements - it has Mr Black, a humourous little helper, with whom you have much conversation - the screen brightness is variable at the start and in the options - the storyline is intriguing
I hate it because: - even for me, a 'dyed in the wool' HOG fan, there are too many and they are not interactive - picky clicky - only two play modes, I chose easy and it was WAY too easy, too much hand holding (will go back and try hard but fear the opposite extreme) - you can find super hints for the (very cluttered) HO scenes but cannot choose when to use them - Mr Black's conversations began to grate after a while
This will, I think, be a long game simply because of the time it takes to complete the HO scenes if you do not use hints, I feel I haven't got anywhere after an hour.
But, I have a game coupon so I am going to buy it. Don't think I would otherwise.
Have only played the demo but drawn into the tale and the mystery. This is SO my sort of game.
At first you think it is the same old story...letter arrives, Grandpa has disappeared but as the intro develops (including discovering your heroine's name) you are drawn in.
* 2 levels of play (casual/expert) * pleasant music/background sounds * 15 messages to be found * interactive jump map which shows available actions (but this can be turned off for more challenge) * Many more puzzles than HOS so far * HOS interactive and at least 2 types (find from list with 3 levels of search and replace).
All in all, thoroughly enjoyable and can't wait to purchase full game.
Only played the demo (casual) and found it a bit tame: * Puzzles fairly straightforward * HOS very cluttered with some interaction on the first visit, fairly logical *Map flashes when it's time to move on, or your phone rings. Map tells you where to go or phone caller tells you to meet them somewhere
Didn't really grab me but if you like crime mysteries over fantasy style then this will be for you. Try the demo and see what you think.
A murderous figure in a red mask haunts the streets of a small French town, and the mayor needs your help to track him down. But you soon discover that the mysterious Red Masque might not be the real criminal…
Have only played the demo and can't add anything to the excellent reviews so far. Just to say I loved it, especially the SOOO cute cat (couldn't resist stroking it every so often) and will definitely be buying when next game credit comes through.
Clunky, frustrating and HOS overload! That from an HO addict! I rarely give up on a trial but this was just that - a trial: * Outdated graphics *Complete lack of logic in locating individual hidden objects *Awful music and voice-overs *When you do complete a puzzle (zero challenge BTW) she says "That should do it" every time! AAAARGH!
What did I like? Nothing! If I could give it zero stars I would.
Frustrating! If you enjoy clicking randomly then this might be the game for you but too often had to resort to the hint and even some of those were cryptic at best! No reset on puzzles so if you went wrong you had to push on until you had 'no more moves'. Dull, dull, repetitive and dull. Spelling errors made me gnash my teeth! Fortunately bought on daily deal but now regret even spending that. let the trial pique your curiosity/optimism...it DOESN'T get better.
Find the festivalgoer abducted by the gargoyles of Notre Dame and uncover the cathedral’s dark past in this reimagining of the Victor Hugo’s classic tale.
Loved this in the trial and bought it, but found that the 'chapters got shorter as the game progressed. LOVED little Benjy and seeking out the 'critters' but didn't find them all :-(( Fantastic graphics and well worth a punt. Storyline intriguing and different. Looking forward to part 2.
