While the graphics for this game were very good, the storyline and gameplay were subpar. Honestly, the first game I gave one star (because that's the lowest you can rate a game) and this one only gets 2 stars because they included a map and a strategy guide. The gameplay was very slow, almost remedial in nature and the HO scenes were nothing special.
I would tell you don't waste your money on this game, maybe the developer will get the hint and not do another or if they do, maybe they'll make a game that's worthy of the CE classification and purchase price.
As soon as you see either Blue Tea Games or Dark Parables you know its going to be an amazing game and for me, its an automatic buy. This edition doesn't disappoint, everything about it is simply 5 of 5 from the graphics, the storyline, the unobtrusive music, to the bonus features, etc.
Everytime I see a new Dark Parables game, I'm excited to see what new character they've introduced and how it fits into the overall Parables world. And I loved the little surprise in the storyline (which I'm not going to spoil for anyone.)
This game has wonderful replay value with 4 difficulty levels to choose from, lots of parables and collectibles to find and numerous achievements which are difficult but not impossible to get.
Once you play a Dark Parables game you simply want more and cannot wait for the newest chapter. Keep bringing it Blue Tea, Big Fish and Eipix, I'm a Parable for life!
First off, this was a very short game. I completed the main and bonus games in about 4 hours on the intermediate level. I had problems moving around via the map and the instructions for the games in most of the cases were just poor and didn't provide enough info as to what you needed to do or how to do it. There were too many cut scenes and they were very slow. Also, character interactions were also slow and tedious.
I would NOT recommend buying this game, it just wasn't worth it and there wasn't anything to make this game stand out. Same tired storyline as most HOG/adventure games out now.
I'll say right off, I wouldn't recommend this game. The storyline was nice, Graphics and difficulty level was good however, there is a HUGE drawback and that's the map. Yes, it allows you to move from scene to scene but it doesn't allow you to move into the various paintings nor does it give you any clue if you've completed that scene so you spend a ridiculous amount of time going from scene to scene making sure you've done everything there and/or using the hint feature to check. There are morphing objects to collect (you have to keep count because the game doesn't let you know if there's one on that scene nor if you've already found it#; and there are some rosary beads to collect #again, keep count there's no indicator#. Some of the accomplishments #trophies) are impossible to get, i.e., 5 objects in 3 seconds, I tried repeatedly and no chance - maybe you'll have better luck.
Again, based on my experience, this game isn't worth it.
Blue Tea Games is simply amazing. They continue to produce games that are entertaining, replayable and gorgeous to look at.
If there is anything that I would ask them to change and this is a small thing, it would be to allow navigation through the map. I love that their HO scenes are fragmented, it really makes their games stand out. Graphics are sharp, storyline is very interesting and with multiple difficulty levels, you can replay this to really get your money's worth. I played this game thru on the intermediate level and it took me approximately 6.5 hours including the bonus chapter. This is a good game for any level of skill to play.
This is a game that you must buy, they definitely make it worthwhile. Kudos to Blue Tea Games, they get my vote for developer of the year and PLEASE keep them coming!
I played the demo on this game. But I won't be purchasing it.
The game's graphics are nice, items are distinguishable and the storyline is somewhat interesting HOWEVER, there are several drawbacks...as one reviewer has said, the fact that one of the achievements is to play the game in under 4 hours indicates its not a very long game. The sounds are rather annoying, especially when you click on an item you need. The cutscenes are kind of cute since they appear to be 'hand drawn' and they allow people who are fast readers to click thru rather than slowing down the game. Another thing that is annoying about this game is that to access the strategy guide, you have to access it thru the menu button, then click on strategy guide. Why on earth does a developer do that? On each new scene, there is a bird to find but I have no idea why, they have nothing to do with the game itsself. There are 3 difficulty levels and the game has a 'bonus chapter' but it still isn't enough for me to buy the game.
As others have said, this game has quite a few things to recommend it:
- Multiple difficulty levels, 4 (including custom) - Collectibles - Mix of HOG (finding items by silhouette and by name) - Achievements
I gave this 4 out of 5 due to a couple of things:
- Too many cutscenes. I get annoyed when I start a game and even before I can type in my name I get a cutscene...this one has TWO plus everytime I did something it seemed like another cutscene appeared. - Lack of a HELP. One of the achievements is to get golden paws on every HOG, it took me 15 minutes of frustration to realize they want you to replay the HOGs in the extras category. Also, I don't see how you can get the achievement for doing the binoculars correctly on the first try, I did and still didn't get the goody.
Eipix did a very nice job on this game, I didn't care for the first one (Chinese something#, the Spring one #2nd) was very pretty...saying that, my favorite developers are still Blue Tea and Elephant Games.
Maybe my rating is because I just finished playing "Christmas Stories - A Christmas Carol", I'm not 100% sure. However, I did not like this game. The graphics were nice but nothing special. The game felt like you were suddenly dropped into the middle of a story you should already know something about but didn't. I gave up after 23 minutes. I had a few problems clicking on items in the HOS scenes.
Blue Tea has done it again. As soon as I see their logo, I immediately purchase the game without even playing. The amount of detail they put into their games is simply amazing. Great storylines and the fact this isn't a ordinary HOG but a fragmented one makes each of theirs a must have.
Thanks Blue Tea Games, I'm now eagerly anticipating your next game and will be replaying each of your previous games until then.
I liked the intro to the game, and then the game went dull quickly. Pros: Good potential story. The audio tapes. Cons: Too many HOS for my taste. The tutorial doesn't mention there are collectibles nor what they might be. Graphics are poor, especially compared to Blue Tea or Elephant Games. Strategy Guide is accessible by clicking into the diary. Inventory objects are difficult to see.
I really wanted to like this game but I abandoned it before the free demo was up.
