I purchased based on the 1 hour trial. I like that they got rid of odd story lines that do not translate well. Straight up "find it" puzzles. However, I am on level 34 of 50 for the Silver Quest (the first of three quests) and cannot get by. It is a treadmill style that goes ridiculously fast with some items that are just not recognizable -- and the hints are disabled on this board. The game adds the twist of having to find similar, but not exact matches, which makes it hard to recognize the objects. I like when I'm challenged, but when I can't get through a board or even close to finishing a board after 25 tries, something is wrong. And since you can't move on without completing the board, I cannot finish the quest. Good luck.
I don't recommend this game.

Plays like all of the earlier Fantasy Mosaics, so if you are a fan of the genre, this game is fine. However, I found it to be too easy. In previous versions I did have to use the two different types of hints, especially in the later boards, to complete some of the puzzles without mistakes (and earn "Gold" cups). This edition did not require using any hints. Maybe this is a "fix" of earlier versions that could not be solved using only mathematical logic, but I enjoyed the challenge more when I had to ration my hints and sometimes even guess. To each his own.
I recommend this game!

The tutorial just never ends. Can't turn it off and the game never lets you play on your own. After 5 minutes, I couldn't take it anymore and uninstalled.
I don't recommend this game.

Gameplay is along the lines of the World Riddle series, only not as sophisticated and no end of level puzzles to mix it up. I'm about halfway through the boards and find it relaxing -- like playing solitaire. My only real criticism is that I have come across several boards where you have to "guess." To me that would be like having to guess in Sudoku -- shouldn't be part of the game. Sometimes it is easy to figure out based on the picture -- others, not so much. But it was free for me with my coupon, so I'm cool with it.
I recommend this game!

The game is very busy. And it feels very long, but only because there are things you have to do repeatedly that aren't challenging and don't add to the game. Like refilling your raven power. The first time you have to do it you might think "oh, I get it!" By the third time you'd kill to be able to skip. Feels like the devs just wanted to make the game as long as possible. If you've reached the globe puzzle, you know what I mean -- had to skip it not because I couldn't figure it out, but because I didn't want to spend an hour on one puzzle. Also, there isn't a lot of character interaction in the different chapters. Once you meet the character in trouble, you basically run around until you've saved him or her, they thank and you move on. So it can get a little boring. I don't love or hate the game.

Enjoyable game. In expert mode it is not that difficult and there are plenty of hints available. Some play was not logical or I missed the clue that would make it logical (i.e. the use of the red bow), or you had to go back to areas that you thought were completed only to discover new options -- those are the only times I used my hints. Unfortunately, the game is way too short and not the same value as most other CEs. With the bonus play, this came makes a good SE. But without the bonus play, even too short for an SE.

There is no game play in this game. Had to ditch after 8 mins into the demo. Just kept cutting to confusing and nonsequential chatter and characters. Also cursor kept changing to magnifying glass, but every time I clicked to look closer I got a horrible plunk noise. I couldn't understand the high ratings, so I started reading the 5 star reviews and they all sound like sales pitches for Blue Tea games. They do not read as if the person writing the review actually played the game. I'd be interested in hearing from someone who has finished the game whether it gets any better.
I don't recommend this game.

I've only played the demo in the hardest mode. I did not find the need to look at the SG and only used the hint button once. The game actually gives you hints in some of the puzzles -- which I didn't expect in hardcore and could live without, but this game is not about the challenge. It's just a fun romp through an overracted crime drama -- ala Phillip Marlowe 1940s and 1950s. However, I can't imagine why anyone would purchase the CE. There are no collectibles and the SG really isn't necessary for this game -- especially when you can change difficulty modes in the middle of play. The reviews of the completed game don't discuss the bonus material. It's a buy for me, but I'll wait for the SE.
I recommend this game!

This isn't a game, it is a movie. Way too much chit chat and very slow. Plus you can't read the comment and continue. You either have to suffer through the whole dialogue or skip completely. Otherwise, this looks like it would be a fun game. More of a Sherlock Holmes style mystery. Not for me though.
I don't recommend this game.

I wanted and expected to love this game. But, sadly, no. At first it was quirky and interesting. The demo was fun, but then the entire game is repeating the format set out in the demo play over and over and over. Some of the puzzles aren't even puzzles -- just an issue of being able to manipulate the mouse. Also, this is the first game where I am having resolution issues. The inventory is half off the screen, so I have to play the "windowed" option, which is smaller. Also, you have to REPEATEDLY match scraps of pictures to portions of the entire screen. The inventory is unwieldy -- you can't just move one item forward. The inventory wheel spins so that you can't isolate just the pictures and look around. I loved the humor of the early MCF games and appreciated the intelligence of 13th Skull -- tho I missed the humor. Shadow Lake is completely humorless -- except for my amusement at recognizing Lea Thompson and a brief visit from the voice of Madame Fate -- and after the first 2 or 3 runs through the exact same format -- just plain dumb. MCF fans, like me, are going to buy this no matter what, thinking that those of us who are negative just don't get it. Next time I'm going to wait for more reviews and listen to them. You've been warned.
I don't recommend this game.
