Our story takes place in 1866 where you have travelled to reach a castle hidden in the Carpathian Mountains only to discover you have been asked to join the mysterious League of Light, a secret group dedicated to fighting dark forces. Immediately you are sent off to investigate your first case, a sighting of a beast flying over the village of Sorrow's Well that lies below the Dark Lord'Castle. Upon arrival you are greeted by Elton Finch whose daughter has been kidnapped by a strange beast and is now kept locked away in the Castle. It is up to you to save her and battle the dark forces that now are getting stronger.
A Dark Fairy Tale with a winged beast, creepy looking dwarf and a evil Dark Lord all wrapped up in this entertaining HOPA game that also offers extras like collectables and achievements. The graphics are sharp, hand-drawn cartoonish artwork that often goes blurry during th animation scenes. Music and sond effects are mediocre and voice overs are relative good.
There are three modes of dşffşculty, adjustable during gameplay and only in hard-core mode do you NOt get sparkles. Unfortunately you are stuck with the black bar tips throughout the game which makes game play less challenging; A bit too much handholding at times. Game features include a map that allows you to teleport to areas of interest and also indicates game progress. Puzzles are relatively easy to solve and the mini-games that I came across during the demo were very simple that I did not have to read any instructions to solve which also is part of an achievement.
Hidden object games are not our traditional HO scenes, rather you need to find the silhoettes and using items on another which actually I enjoyed playing. Collectables include locating 34 owls throughtout the game and finding 11 scrolls. There is a list of 20 achievements to earn and some are actually interesting. Overall the demo went by quickly and my only gripes were the graphics which looked at times a bit dated and the lack of challenge in the gameplay. Nevertheless, I liked the story and the extras make up for the rest. A Good CE which unfortunately misses the mark of being a great CE and therefore gets only 4 stars from me. I expect many will take advatage of the sale today which will make this game a good choice. Also I wonder, does anybody notice the Dwarf (or rather the Snoggle) looking like another similar evil dwarf we have come across? Have a good week-end!
A great series developed from one of my favorite peanut-lover game developers has returned with another sequel filled with exciting extras and great game features.
As lead detective from the Mystry Trackers Squad, you are called in to investigate the screams heard in Silent Hollow. There seems to be trouble at the Mystery Trackers headquarters and they urgently need your help. With a few extra abilities now in your possession, you and your trusty sidekick, Elf, are asked to learn who the villain is behind the treacherous attack on the other agents.
Graphics as always are very good, at times a bit too dark but using life-like artwork and raw colors adds a sinister quality to game. The only problem I had were with the voice-overs which were a bit over the top. Music is the same score adding suspense and urgency into the gameplay.
Menu offers four gameplay modes, Detective Mode being the most challenging whereby you get absolutely no help whatsoever, your cursor wont even change on hotspots. Hard-core players will definitely welcome the challenge. Game features include a map that will allow you to travel and will indicate progress. There are extras that you will need to find along the way like secret files, gold coins, an array of Mystery Trackers Pets and three distinctive paranormal abilities that will help you with your case. Last but not least, there is your side-kick Elf, the tiny dog that reaches into hard to get places. There are ofcourse a list of achievements as well.
A game with much to offer; HO scenes are a bit junk-piled and graphics tend to get a bit off making some items difficult to spot. They are standard HO scenes that are slightly interactive but nothing spectacular. Note to developers: Next time please make Hidden Object Scenes a bit more interesting with some variation in the game-play, a trend that seems to be getting a bit popular.
Adventure gameplay involves alot of back-tracking but you have the map for this. The mini-games are relative easy, at least the one that I came across during th demo. There is alot to do in the game and sometimes with the dramatic music blaring in the back-ground, there is an urgency in the gameplay that makes you go from one place to another and soon you seem to lose track of the acutal story.
I pretty much enjoyed the demo but wasn't entirely thrown over by the gameplay. There seems to be something missing, perhaps all too familar back-grounds, standard game-play with a bunch of extras that seem to be mere filling rather than being intricate to the game. This sequel seems to be a mere copy of the last chapter of our Series and for this reason I am giving this four stars but nevertheless will be adding it to my collection.
Old Game, Old graphics, annoying music and alot of annoying backtracking in this very basic HOPA which really became annoying. I have never used so many hints in one game just to figure out where to go and what to do. The only redeeming feature is perhaps the story which tells you about an ancient civilization that threatens the world. Our heroine is in Bemimi, situated at the cusp of the Bermuda triangle and there is a mystery to solve. After half hour of game play, I got bored with all the back and forth. Mini-games are silly and HO scenes are scattered to break the tedious gameplay.
I wont go on to bore you with details because there isnt much to say about the game. A journal, a very rudimentary map that will allow you to travel, no gameplay options and a very unhelpful hint system. I personally got stuck in one scene and the hint button kept telling me to get the the staff from the forge which I cannot find anywhere. I simply gave up and decided to call it a day.
A definite pass from me, would not even consider it for free.
Discover the city of Apothecarium, where inhabitants are caught in a perilous struggle against a powerful alchemist who is taking the lives of innocent!
Seriously? How did I almost miss this game and how is this not a CE?
Our story takes place during the dark ages when the plague has struck most of Europe, causing great havoc across the land. Scientists, Alchemists and artists along with other great minds decide to come together and build a town which they name Apothecariumand use the premises for research and an exchange of knowledge. You are entrusted with a great task given by the Duke Medici; to find his daughter and granddaughter, last seen on the outskirts of Apothecarium where they mysteriously disappeared. Evil lies inthis town and it is now up to you to save them and fight the battle of your life.
Ok so the graphics are not mind blowing but you have voice overs, three game modes and that is just the beginning. You have a journal with a map that will allow you to travel. Still there is more, you have achievements and collectable, coins that you will need to purchase some power-ups. You have fantastic HO scenes that can be switched over to Match 3 game and by the way, you also have morphing objects within the HO scenes to paly. You have intricate puzzles to solve, items to combine and mini-games that are challenging. So my question is, where did these developers come from? Perhaps the game is too short but I really dont care because I am having a blast playing the demo. This is a definite buy and guess what, IT IS A SE GAME! And to think I almost missed it! There must be something wrong but who cares, I have enough free game awards and comapred to today's CE, this game has enough juice to earn a sale. Kudos to the developers!
You've arrived in the peaceful resort town of Aurora Peak to investigate some mysterious local crystals. But the devious plot you uncover there could endanger the entire world!
Years have gone by and you get an urgent message from your brother who wants you to return to the mountain resort once owned by your Grandfather. Upon arrival, you notice that plants and animals in the area have started to morph and it seems to be a natural phenomenon connected to some strange local crystals. You realise that there is a devious plot that could endanger the entire world and its up to you uncover Aurora Peak’s deadly secret.
To be honest, I wasn't paticularily thrilled with this game. The graphics were mediocre with a somewhat cartoonish look to it. There are voice-overs and music that is very non-obtrusive. Three play modes are offered and you have the option to switch during the game.
Game features include a journal and a map that will allow you to jump. There are achievements along with a list of morphing objects that are somewhat difficult to spot. Puzzles are relatively easy to solve but mini-games were nevertheless interesting to play. So why did this game not thrill me? I just could not immerse myself into the plot and for me, the look of the game was somewhat dated. However I did enjoy the HO scenes which varied and were somewhat challenging to play. Alot of interaction and some objects were difficult to spot. So I still ask myself; Why did this game not thrill me? After all, it has all the elements we expect from a CE HOPA.
Perhaps the storyline is just a bit too familiar or perhaps I have played too many of these of late and am getting somewhat bored with just going through the motions. However when in doubt, I merely compare a game to those I have enjoyed and that really sums it up. Compared to games like Witches Legacy or Myths of the World, it seems that this game just lacks the WOW factor. Developers have made a rather good attempt and It does have collectables and achievments and apparently the bonus section does seem to add closure to the storyline.
I personally am not thrown over but nevertheless will take advantage of todays sale which I believe will prompt many to buy this game. It is a good game, not great but will no doubt come down to preferences.
Looks like the Final Cut isn't so final. A good sequel to an interesting story involving mind control, a Psysho half-sister who has apparently escaped and two siblings who are trapped in an army base that morphs into a film set. What is real and what is a hallucination seems to be your biggest obstical. A close family friend apparently betrays you and once again you must find out who is behind the initial plot of stealing the mind control film projector invented by your father.
Graphics could have been set at a higher resolution as they are somewhat blurred at times. However live actors are used which make it interesting and voice-overs are well played out. Ambient sounds and music set the tone of the game and adds suspense to your gameplay.
Main Menu offers three play modes to choose from ( no sparkles at all) which can be changed during gameplay and features include a journal and a map that allows you to travel and indicates progress. I especially liked the map as it is animated and you can actually look into buildings and see rooms. Well done!
These developers get better with each game and they also work at holding your attention with extras like morphing objects, collectables and achievements which is a plus in my book. HO scenes are crowded and slightly interactive, unfortunately graphics could also have been better. Mini-games are relatively easy during the demo and I do hope that they get more challenging along the way.
I recall that the previous installments were quite challenging with intricate mini-games that really were fun to play. Unfortunately I have yet to see this in this version. I liked the Final Cut series because I really enjoyed the storyline which is original as well as the gameplay. Unfortuantely I feel mildly dissapointed with this latest installment. Firstly the game crashed on me three times during the demo which is not always a good sign, second the graphics seems to be somewhat iffy at times and the High Definititon graphics did not work on my computor. Also gamepplay was not as challenging as I would have liked it to be. Nevertheless, I am interested to see the story come to an end and solve the mystery. As alway, I think the Developers did a good job and I do applaud them for their originality with some features like the map.
It looks like Final Cut will be added to my CE collection but I still think it could have been better.
I wonder how hard the folks at BFG worked on digging this one up from the vault of long lost forgotten games?
Either that or these developers are very new at this therefore I will try to remain as constructive as possible. The graphics are OK, somewhat dark, nothing to write home about and the artwork is mediocre. The game is very silent with no voice-overs which tells me that there was a very tight budget for these developers. There are no choice of play mode so you get sparkles everywhere. There is no map and only a journal to help you along the way.
Story is your basic ghost story and to be very honest, I really did not get very far with the game so details are a bit iffy at best. Girl ends up at a place called Happy Orchard Farm and its haunted. I kinda deleted the game after 5 minutes of gamepay, which was long enough to realise the game is not for me. However I did come across two HO scenes and they were dark and junk-piled with no interaction.
I wont bore you with details and it is suffice to say the game is either very old or these developers are just getting started with this genre, either way it is a BIG NO from me.
I actually missed the CE version of this game due to my absence and had a chance to play it only today. The difference between the two versions is that with the SE version you get no extras including the series of collectables and achievements. Bonus section also gives you extra HO scenes to play along with mini-games.
I loved the graphics, real actors, live footages with great art-work. Wonderful use of colors and there is the creep factor which I loved. Voice overs are nicely done and the music adds suspense to the story. There are three modes to choose from and you can change your level of difficulty as you play. Sparkles are totaly eliminated in the Insane level. You have a journal and a map.
As our story begins, you take on the role of a journalist who is sent out to investigate an old case of an orphanage that was shut down due to rumours of a haunting. A mysterious red figure had terrorized the children and now you need to unravel the mystery.
HO fans will love this game as there are plenty of them throughout the game. All were interactive and easy to play. Adventure whereby you collect your inventory items and work your way around the orphanage and surroundings. I enjoyed the mini-games, mostly easy but had a fun factor to them.
If like me, you enjoy collecting paticular items ( three sets in the CE version) and gunning for achievements, then you are better off with the CE which I believe scored high with many gamers. Although not very challenging to play and a bit on the short side, this version is pretty straight forward but the story line and visuals are quite captivating. It really comes down to budget but I do recommend you wait for a CE sale of some sort to get the latter.
Warning: If you suffer from Coulrophobia and/or pupaphobia, fear of clowns and puppets, then this game is a definite NO!
Regrettably 'Stray Souls' is yet another glorified SE game that offers 14 chapters plus four additional bonus chapters to play. Game mechnics is your standard HOPA with emphasis on Adventure which in this case means running around picking up items and using them. During the demo trial that covered 4 chapters #which incidently I completed within 50 minutes#, I came across only 2 Hidden object scenes, one spot the difference and a collect 12 of the same items. The puzzles are very easy and you have a map that will allow you to travel to areas of interest, so no need to bring along the running shoes. In my humble opinion, the only redeeming factor was the storyline and the creepy characters that you come across.
Graphics are hand drawn and slightly cartoonish. Colors and images are sharp and I really loved the artwork. Very creepy images and obviously the artist who drew this has a very warped sense of humor and a somewhat twisted mind; I liked it very much!
Our story begins with the usual Mother and Daughter quest, out to look for missing Dad whose last known address is a very creepy motel room. Having arrived to the motel from Hades, Julie, our young protagonist is suddenly carried off by her Father through a portal. Mom meets up with a creepy looking hand puppet who naturally talks and together they enter a bizarre world where the real fun begins, a town of woodebn life size puppets, a mad stalker clown and ofcourse an array of clues and items to find..
I really am on the fence about this game, I liked the images and the storyline is mildly interesting however the game offers no challenge whatsoever. Mini games are childishly easy and puzzles are standard. Beginners will have a hoot with this game but hard core players may simply get bored. There are no extras of any kind so basically, I recommend that you save your pennies for a rainy day and wait for the SE version. Ofcourse the extra four bonus chapters from what I can tell look to be individual follow up stories which I find to be very cheeky of the developers. The real disappointment will be that you need to purchase the game in order to peak at the Bonus section and into the SG. I predict a restless group will not be please with this.
I would like to have given this game a four star based on the sounds and visuals. But if I were to compare it to previous games that came out last week, this game gets a three star from me and a pass.
I love stories with aquatic theme and who doesnt love mysterious 'sea creatures' that seem to be threatening a town. Our tale begins with with waking up on a beach with a loss of memory. We soon learn that our name is Marcus and apparently I have a girlfriend named Dolores. There is also a third wheel who calls himself Vasco and now he has kidnapped Dolores and it is up to us to save her. A love-triangle always leads to tales of revenge.
A beautifully designed HOPA game with so much to offer. I remember these developers and applaud them for their keen insight into what we gamers want. Obviously they took notes and came up with a game full of extras made my head spin.
You have three play options to choose from along with the choice of using an interactive map. I love maps that not only allows you to travel but also indicates progress. It keeps me from running around and the memory is not what it use to be.
Once the game started, I found that the graphics were bright, alot of colors which I love and alot of ambient sounds which always enhances the gaming experience. My only disappointment was the lag between the scenes which became an annoyance after a while. It disrupts the tempo of the game and caused me mild frustration. I wish something could be done about it, it really is the only fly in the ointment for me.
A standard HOPA with terrific HO scenes that are different and interactive. Some even challenging as we need to use items on other items which rates high on my fun meter. Puzzles are plenty, finding items and the odd mini-games are well conceptualized and also entertaining. There is very little hand holding should you choose to play Advance mode or Hardcore. Be prepared for alot of 'something is needed here'. I try to overlook this second annoyance but appreciate the challenge it presents.
Extras...Extras...and more extras. This game offers so many enjoyable features that make for a great game. You have a list of achievments, a series of collectables like find hidden turtles, sea creatures and collect sea shells throughout the game. You really need to look closley because some are very well camoflaged. You also get to build an aquarius and buy toys for your pet dolphin, incidently I forgot to mention, you have a pet dolfin that helps you throughout your adventure.
A brilliant game that deserves 5 stars despite the tiny problem with the lag between scenes. Seriously, I really do wish something could be done about this. Nevertheless, a game worth every penny and I imagine this will definitely make the short list of best games for 2013.
