Mr. Turner was surrounded by people who could all benefit from his death, but who actually murdered him? Play the detective in this classic whodunit mystery!
I am not going to rehash the plot yet again of this sequel to Entwined. This is an old school HOG that is delightful and fun. There are a few issues of improper naming but I believe this is due to the creators being European. Some of the HOG items are tiny, and there is a large amount of dialogue, but you can skip it if you wish. Overall, this is a good solid HOG without a lot of frills and good for a distraction.
This sequel to Alice in Wonderland is pitiful. I am not going to rehash the plot as others here have already done that. But here is what I observed from the demo, which was deleted after about 20 minutes when I had all I could stand. 1. No consistency in some of the clicking. Sometimes you end up dragging the item to use other times a click does it, but games are too advanced now to even be employing drag and drop on a game that has issues. 2. First hidden object on here causes confusion. One object, which they call a "broom" is actually a pair of scissors. What??? The also say find a brush, but not what kind. In another hunt it specifies, "Hand brush". 3. Some of the items are really tiny or very light. 4, The game will still insist on leading you by the hand even if you dismiss the tutorial, which is very distracting. 5. One of the mini games in which you try to grab bread and butterflies, is frustrating as when you click on the bread and butterflies, they don't disappear, you just get a tiny plus sign. 6. Clunky pauses between screens where you have to watch the meter fill again. No excuse to have this at all. 7, Lots of chessy cats with trivia, which you don't have to click on, but really serve no purpose.
Overall the game is a failure for someone who is playing above beginner level. A child or beginner would probably like this but I would not waste money or even a credit on this game. That's why most developers use beta players. This one needed to be betaed badly.
I really hate to write this review. Les Miserables: Jean Valjean is one of the most boring games i have ever demoed. It would not be a bad game but it is far behind the other games coming out now. There are no different playing levels. No skip button for the dialogue. You can dismiss the tutorial but it still leads you by the hand with big round buttons telling you what to do. I understand this is more of a story/adventure game rather than a standard HOG but I did not last more than ten minutes with it. It served to remind me that i had the same reaction to it's predecessor. It might be good for a beginner, but I do not recommend this.
Spirit of Revenge: Cursed Castle is one of those games, that based on the demo, could go either way. So far it seems like a middle of the road HOG/Adventure. I am a little concerned because the demo seems more like a number of object hunts and mini games strung together without a tremendous amount of story involved. The detective storyline is not unfamiliar nor is the mysterious person out for revenge in a castle. I like this game pretty much, there are morphing objects that give you extra hints and pieces of paintings to find. However, I am not impressed enough to buy the CE so will wait for the SE to appear.
I recommend this game!

Hoyle Illusions
There is malice afoot on the eve of the awaited Battle Royale between two famous illusionists. Will you get to the theater on time and save the day?
This is one of those games that I hate to be disappointed by. It's a rather nice magician themed game with hoyle playing cards to find and magic hats to use. But the fun ends there. Unfortunately this has all the marks of a game that is too easy when it could have been a keeper. First, there is no level choice to the game. There is no way to opt out of the tutorial that keeps annoyingly popping up for the first couple of minutes. And lastly, the dialogue keeps pretty much telling you what to do which ruins the game play, at least for me. I also found that some of the hidden objects are either not fully visible, too tiny or you have to click and click to get the cursor to react-- too touch sensitive. I lasted only for about ten minutes into this before I got bored silly. The game's graphics are nicely drawn old school which is fine. As i said, had they put more thought into this, it could have been a great game. Such as it is, i would only recommend this for someone who is a beginner. I definitely recommend you try the demo before you waste a game credit or buy this as well.
Sharp Investigations: Death on the Seine is a solid, old school type HOG without a lot of frills. The story line of a female reporter investigating a surprise murder is not a new one, but this one does not disappoint. Using the provided map you go from one location to the other in Paris, finding clues and interviewing suspects. Interspersed are HOG scenes. While this is pretty predictable, there is something about this game that catches the attention and I may just get it once I have a game credit. Otherwise, I do recommend trying the demo.
I recommend this game!

Pachinko Pop
Jump into a vortex and start popping! Travel into the past and collect ancient artifacts!
This cute internet take on the classic Pachinko game is a lot of fun. Its not just a popper game, its addicting. Lots of power ups as you try to put your balls in one of the five urns at the bottom of the screen. Even the bumpers on here are animated. Free to play, so give this one a try.

The House on Usher could have been a fantastic game. Its seriously quirky. You play a real estate agent trying to sell a house that is stuck in 70's decor. You have to clean the property up by finding bugs and cobwebs interspersed with hidden object hunts. Whether it was intentional or not, the game irritated me from the get-go. It only has two game level choices, easy or hard. I played on the hard level and it only made me wonder what the easy level was like, as a kid could play the hard level. It forces a tutorial on you that keeps popping up as well as "phone calls" from your broker. You earn extra money if you find all the bugs and cobwebs in scenes, but it gets confusing as they are also in with the hidden objects. There is a counter in the upper left telling you how many items are. A lot of the bugs and webs are very very light colored and very tiny. Also, you have to drag whatever item you want to use, you can't just click on it. You have to manually click on the inventory tab as well. I expect more out of a game than old school at this point in time and this one is lacking.

The description of Antique Shop: Journey of the Lost Souls caught my interest, so I played the demo. I find that although this story line is based on freeing souls from books by finding objects associated with them, it has little story value. Most of the story is primarily reading and the HOG scenes are strung together. There are extra HOG scenes that pop up when you click on random objects. The idea is good but it doesn't work too well as it happens in a way to disturb your concentration. There are also some mini games that are very predictable, such as find the differences. Also, each scene has at least one item that is very tiny and the average items are even smaller than usual. That being said, I was so bored I did not finish the demo. The artwork is nice but it's not enough to keep your interest going. The game ends up being a string of HOGs, one after another. My best recommendation on this is that it would be good for a beginner and to try the demo before you buy.
I have to say that Hope Lake is not a bad game. The storyline is not new: the female detective exploring a school and confronting a maniac. That being said, what made me cut the rating on this game is a lack of consistency and proper names for items in the HOG scenes. For example, in one hunt a "wrench" is called a "key". In another hunt later in the game, its called a "wrench". There is a list of items that are misleading by their names. You cannot rely on the list in a lot of cases. The mini games are very simple and fairly easy. This is a long playing game, so you do get your money's worth. I would have given a higher rating if more attention had been paid to the naming of items. I would recommend this game.
