Just what I didn't need or want. It's BOGO day, Big Fish, and we get this instead of something interesting and fun for the sale. There's nothing new here so why even bother?
The game will bring in the usual 1-2 stars, the reviews again will be ignored, the clutter still remains boring and the bonus games are not fun. I'm sure Animalville has its share of oddities including the Walkers acting like humans, but at least this time a sheep and a rat aren't "tying the knot". Oh, I know it's just a silly game! But seriously, how about something an intelligent adult would be interested int, designed for thinking and logic? We have enough silly stuff already. It's pathetic, really!
I decided to finish the first level to check out the others and found the images to be just as unappealing right to the end. You'd think that something would change by this time but No. 17 offered nothing I consider fun or pretty or interesting.
Less food this time, about a dozen juvenile pics that are typical for children's coloring books. The rest were the usual boring subject matter. Some of the images were cute until color was applied, then they turned ugly because of the poor assortment of colors which have always looked like dirt is mixed in with them. What should be bright and festive is drab and darkish. Lots of grey, white, orange, brown. The colors are all off, making flowers, Christmas, stained glass far less than bright and beautiful.
The choices for changing background colors are helpful with the vert tiny areas and without the super-enlarging zoom feature it's nearly impossible to spot them as they are nearly invisible. Sometimes hints don't even help on first attempt.
I do own games 2-8 but realized that unless something improved I would never again purchase from this series. Here it is at 17 now and the same inadequacies prevent it from being a fun, quality art game, at least for me. If you love childish images, lots of lines, simple pics without background and the colors don't bother you, I think you'll be satisfied with this collection. It's quick and easy takes only a minute or two to finish each image. The 64 images will be whisked away all too soon unless you slow to a snail's pace. Hope you enjoy more than I did, I think the kids will really have fun with it.
Your ski vacation is interrupted when Lord Simon Wells and his friends go missing. A detective's work is never done! Seems like a good mystery but I have to get these tasks and codes out of the way before investigating. After all the waiting I was rather disappointed. Even if it's a new MCF game I certainly won't pay the CE price for this. Play the demo and it's almost halfway over already!
The graphics were clear, nice coloring but a little dark. I didn't like the voice overs and the attempt at accents. The characters looked fine. It is just an ordinary game, I expected more being an MCF. I really liked the Rube Goldberg puzzles, a great challenge but took up too much demo time so I skipped the last part of each one. The HOPs were creative and interactive, scenes were cluttered and dark but I did enjoy them, good variety.. Collectibles were so-so, some easy, some fairly challenging, included morphs that were pretty easy to spot. Action just started to pick up near end of demo. I'm interested in the story but not to the point of paying CE price. Will likely pick up the SE version.
A detective HOG that's far too easy to be fun. No play modes, no special features/options that you would expect to find in a CE. The extra content is sparse and ordinary, there's a long music list, the wallpapers are not appealing. Graphics are quite dark, no voices, dialogue can be skipped.
All objects are huge and can't be missed, except for a few tucked away, under or inside something. But even those are a snap to locate. Everything is out in the open ineach location, not really hidden at all. The zoom zones contain a couple of items, not hidden either. The special racoon in each scene is big and in your face, other special items easy to spot.
There's a variety of list styles but none offer any challenge to the hunt. You can basically start clicking around and hit upon every object within seconds or a minute or two. The dark graphics don't even succeed in concealing anything. If anything is hidden here I would say it is the info on this developer. I tried to get into the credits but I guess that has to wait until the game is completed.
The demo was boring and the easy play allowed me to progress through many levels, so I'm wondering about the length of the game. I think this may not be a good CE value. But you may enjoy the game for the simplicity, I just require more challenge to keep me entertained.
Friendly Fox always delivers a game I can count on for a good story and plenty of activities. This one has our detective traveling to 3 world-famous cities as someone has a maniacal scheme to destroy civilization. Detective Agatha is tasked with trying to discover who the madman is and prevent the destruction.
It's a good mystery with a solid plot that isn't going in all different directions, I found it easy to follow. It includes a few familiar names from past mystery tales that add more interest to this creative story of murderous intentions for, as always, a crazy reason.
Graphics are clear, excellent color and artwork, scenes are full of little details that I really enjoy checking out, locations aren't visually boring. I loved every HOP, great variety, lots of interactivity. Not much challenge with the puzzles, they are themed, fun, but too many for me as usual and I end up skipping quite a few. I get too frustrated sometimes.
I bought the CE. Friendly Fox is always generous with their extra content, the usual play modes make the game fun for all skill levels.
Unlike the other Christmas games, I can always rely on Christmas Wonderland for great entertainment. I own all but 2 of this series. I love the bright cheery graphics, crystal clear with all the beautiful colors and images we expect to see for the season.
The locations/scenes really put you in the holiday mood. People all about, children enjoying the snow and festivities, shops and streets aglow with lights and decorated trees. Everything is just beautiful. Each scene is loaded to the max with everything imaginable to tickle your Christmas fancy! The music is delightful.
The HOs aren't always easy to spot, even in the easiest play mode so it's a good fun challenge, And there are other goodies to search for, not just the list items. The games and puzzles are all Christmas themed, lots of fun. Great features and extras. Excellent replay value.
This CE is one I happily add to my collection, $$ well spent. No matter how much you may dislike the holiday season, I think this game just might remove the grumpies and produce a smile! Just looking at the sparkle and glow warms my heart.
Seems like the changes this game needs will never happen. Makes no sense that we have Number 23 and everything is still the same. Art is supposed to be beautiful, interesting, colorful, fun. Pixel Art is not.
The first level still requires completion before we can see the rest of the images. Why? Why do I want to buy something I am not allowed to see before hand? I know I won't get a refund if I'm unhappy with a purchase! This is an unfair practice.
Today's first group of pics is very unappealing. I don't want to pant a toy, a necktie, artichoke, bell pepper, umbrella. And the poor color palette makes them even more displeasing. Pixel Art colors are always drab and lifeless, no contrast or variations to create detail, most shades are in the same color group and are ugly.
The finished product is just a blur and too small. Just because it's pixel art it's no excuse! I'm very familiar with this art style and all that can be accomplished especially with computers. First someone has to be knowledgeable, creative and care enough to get quality results. I don't think this dev gives a hoot!
I do like the challenge of the large, more complex images and the subject matter for these means they will be very time-consuming. The grey pixels make it difficult to easily pick out the numbers you're working on. However, these things are mostly a plus because they slow you down and create challenge which makes it a more satisfying accomplishment. The zoom feature and ability to fill in a large all one color area are very useful and I feel the best features in the game. It doesn't offer the fun features/options like most others.
I do own a bunch of Pixel Art and they were fun in the beginning because they were different. But as time passed, they just stood still and nothing new was added to keep the interest up. I left many pics undone because they were boring, poor subject matter and I was really unhappy with the blurry results. When new devs arrived I jumped ship and never returned, but I would gladly come back if Pixel Art would just make a few changes!
Big Fish, please do something. I had to rewrite this review 3 times because my text is being deleted as I am typing. FIX THE REVIEW PAGE, PLEASE? It broke when the new format was installed in early August. It's way past time to make it right again. It makes reviewing games a nightmare instead of a pleasure!
Randall is called to look into the suspicious death of a colleague. He arrives only to be burdened with a load of tasks while taking notes and collecting clues. He even has to find a note pad and pencil which he has to sharpen.
Other than a brief conversation with Eleanor and briefly checking into the backgrounds of the victim and the killer, the demo didn't provide much of anything at all. Except for a few HOPs and puzzles it was just filled with tedious tasks. All the usuals found in Domini games, things I needed were in the most illogical places requiring the most ridiculous "tools".
HO scenes were darkish and kind of hazy. Objects were small, vague and almost completely hidden. I didn't like the one involving replacing items in a photo, too time consuming. I thought the puzzles were fun, played in Hard Mode. The few characters I saw were great looking, good voice overs. Scenes weren't very interesting but colorful. I only saw a couple of locations, indoors.
Not much else to tell you! The story and activities were all very familiar. The CE content was the same as usual. Based on the demo, I really found nothing to indicate this would be a worthwhile purchase. If I don't know more of the plot or see anything but tasks, there's no reason to believe this will be an entertaining game. Sorry, for me this is another Domini no-go!
Big Fish, once again you deleted my review when others were posted! I had to rewrite my review twice and believe me it is NO FUN!!!! Why must this continue???
No zipper pull, no batteries, a pile of leaves as soon as the game opens. Not a good sign. Too many tasks always spoil it for me, keeping the adventure always on the other side of the demo. I'm sure there will be lots of them!
The HOPs I played were challenging. In one the HOs were too obscure due to small size and dark areas. One took forever, trying to match up items with overlay outlines on graph, not fun. The ridiculous lock and chain are back. I really liked the puzzles, play in Easy or Hard Mode.
Graphics were sharp, characters and voices looked and sounded good. The scenes weren't very interesting as I was mostly in an office building. Choices made along the way effect the outcome of the game, nothing new here, Just another old detective story with different title and new characters, AGAIN. Collectibles were so easy to find, same amounts as always and once again the CE is short on extras, nothing ever changes.
I felt bored and just wanted to stop playing, had no desire to find out more about the case. I was very detached from gameplay. Don't know why! Just didn't like it. You might really enjoy it if you love Domini games. I played the entire demo and was ready to turn in my badge!
I actually enjoyed the demo. It wasn't packed with scads of tedious tasks and I was able to move into more of the story. The game moved along at a good pace and I think it will be an interesting, entertaining adventure.
I liked the richly colored graphics, they didn't seem very out-dated to me. The characters looked great and voices were natural. Most of the scenes were outdoors for a change. Usually I'm stuck inside a castle or mansion for the entire demo. I really enjoyed the HOPs, especially the lengthy storybook ones. The puzzles were fun, not very complicated so no need for skips.
Traveling to the other worlds was a simple process aided by a magical medallion. My helper owl was used only 3 times. There were a couple of recipes to mix, thankfully not a lot of ingredients to find. The collectibles were pearls and sheet music. Pearls were a snap to find but the sheet music was beyond my grasp, no luck at all. So I didn't appreciate them being so well hidden as to render them invisible.
I love Grandma games and this looks to be a good one. Always enjoy the medieval time period for the costumes and beautiful visuals. It was nice to have fewer puzzles and a reasonable amount of HOPs. In many games there are just too many and not enough adventure.
The SE version will be a good choice for me as the CE didn't offer much extra content and I didn't enjoy the collectibles.
