I've played several other Roads of Rome games and enjoy them very much. The Portals edition will be another one that I can play multiple times. The story is a bit different this time around, but even more interesting than the usual. The graphics are definitely sharper and more detailed than previous editions and I like that there are multiple chapters, so each chapter is a different setting with different backgrounds. A minor complaint is that you have to collect helpful items before you can move past them. In previous editions, you had the option to collect helpful items. Although, the helpful items are generally a requirement to move further down the road (compared with simply expediting play in previous editions). There are a couple of other small differences with Portals compared to the other RoR games, but if you like them, you will like Portals. Lots of levels to keep you entertained and the levels are just the right length of play.
This game may be enjoyable for some, but I found it too simplistic and not engaging. I was hoping it would be like Farm Mania as others have mentioned, but it isn't at all. Farm Mania has an order to how the animals act and you can see when food supplies are getting low. That is not the case with Jane's Zoo. The animals wants are seemingly random, so you can't do anything to prepare. And all your doing is clicking on a button to fulfill the animal's need. With Farm Mania, you plant the hay, water the hay, cut the hay, feed it to the animal, etc. The graphics are also very simple and it doesn't make game play particularly enjoyable.
This game had 60 levels and offered a lot of game time. It is a game I can see myself replaying many times. It is generally entertaining, although it can get a bit monotonous since not much changes from one level to the next (the big changes come between chapters). I haven't played the Delicious games that everyone compares Julie's Sweets to, but on it's own, Julie's Sweets is a very good game. As others have noted, the storyline is really weird. I don't want to see a storyline about sexual harassment in a game (I want to have fun, be entertained, and get AWAY from reality)! Also, why is Julie freaking out about a guy being nice to her? She is presumably an adult if she's going off to NY to culinary school; not a 13-year old. Weird.
I really like Magic Farm 3 (and Magic Farm 2!). It is a little rough around the edges: the characters only say a limited number of of single words, the story is a little choppy, the English captions have many typos, graphics could be a bit sharper. However, I like this game so much, I purchased the new edition of it and have played both many times from beginning to end. The overall story is pleasant and interesting; a girl and her dragon take the magical botany world by storm and excel. My only complaint (and the main reason it doesn't have 5 stars) is that Marshes section is very glitchy. Plants will die with less than a second warning because they don't have water. Usually they take 5 to 10 seconds to become parched (depending on if you've been hovering over them/encouraging them to bloom or grow). I keep losing expensive plants because there is no cue (i.e. the water droplets don't show up or the red "danger" warning has only flashed on the plant for a split second and then it's dead) to water them. A little disappointing, but otherwise it is a great game.
Wouldn't open on my computer; couldn't play. I've been able to open and play dozens of games via Big Fish. Sally's Spa is not compatible with my PC. Check compatibility before you buy!!
The majority of this game is strategy/time management, but there are about 6-8 hidden object mini games that are optional throughout the game. Each level is pretty challenging, but there doesn't seem to be any timer. You play until you reach the level goal. It is still challenging because there is a lot going on (meeting the goal, upgrading many items, battling obstacles). The only downside is that the actual writing is really poor quality (i.e. words are misspelled and sentences don't make any sense, as if it were written by someone just learning English). Minor detail, but graphics, game layout, and story line are all very high quality that I was surprised by so many blatant grammatical errors. It would also be nice to see how many levels you have left. You just keep playing, not knowing how far along in the game you are.
