The same old formuliac game. You always know what you're getting with Park Ranger. It's safe and relaxing and well paced and consists of HOS with mini games in between. The mini games have a skip button but it takes about two minutes to charge up. I'm not overkeen on the mini games, but I do like the odd wordsearch that they sneak in there and wish there were more of them. Didn't find this one quite as fun as some of the others and I didn't think the graphics were as clear. Again, the same old wildlife to find, in this one, which was a little boring and the lovely chucky sound of the trash, which can never be boring.
Great game, bags of atmosphere and brimming with HOS. It has good environmental sound effects and consistent game play. Spooky without being gorey, creepy without being too dark. A long game too. Manages to be relaxing but also lots of fun. Objects were not blended in, or too small to see, they were cleverly hidden, presenting a good challenge without frustration.
The sequel was great and in my opinion, this is poor in comparison. It is a stark, lonely, depressing game. There is no atmosphere, poor game play and I just wanted it to be over. I normally try the demo before I buy the game. In this case, because I liked the sequel so much, I bought it straight out without trying it first. In hindsight, that was a mistake.
A fun old school game, graphics not too hot but good environmental sound effects. Not sure about the hint system, which is a radar type affair. It's like looking for treasure with a music box instead of a metal detector. Can be annoying sweeping the hint icon over the entire HOS, waiting for it to spin faster and beep louder. It will illuminate when you are in the exact spot where the hidden object is. When I first started playing it, I didn't like it much but it grew on me. It's completely out to lunch. If you go in with that mind set you'll be fine. And if you like flying pigs and are a cat lover, you should appreciate this game too.
It's a cosy straight forward hidden object game with a very long skip recharge on puzzles and long hint recharge on HOS.There's one mini game at the end that has to be solved without a hint or skip button. Nice enough story and the family is quite likeable. I was disappointed that it wasn't longer. I was also hoping that there would be have been better sound effects, instead of just music.
There's lots going on in the hidden object scenes and so much to see that it's diificult to get bored. I only discovered the MegaHint button in the third one. Can't believe I didn't see it before then. It helps so much with finding the odd elusive wildlife or trash can that prevents me getting a perfect score. There's not so much wildlife to find either. They've reined them in in this one, and for me it makes the game much better. I don't like the mini games and the skip button takes too long to illuminate! I do like the word search they've put in the mini games though. I wish there were more of them.
This is challenging in regard to finding hidden objects. In this one there is a tendency to hide objects, usually faces, in trees, snow, rock, wood, brick etc. In fact a lot of the objects are cleverly hidden, rather than being too small or obscure. There are more people in the scenes to begin with and more things going on to keep interest. There are several indoor scenes too and quite a few wintery scenes towards the end. I also liked the added Souvenir section, where you can buy gifts from the shop.
Not as relaxing as the first game but on the plus side, the scenes were more interesting and puzzley. Some of the objects were difficult to find, so a bit more challenging than the first. I didn't like the side task of finding wildlife. It was tedious, far too many similar birds or reptiles to find in each one. I much preferred the Lost and Found side task in the first game. (It was quite funny as a moth was in the Lost and Found. Someone had lost a moth). Also, the mini games weren't as much fun or as imaginative as in the first, the environmental sound effects are a bit more intrusive too, but I enjoyed it for the most part.
It was so relaxing I almost fell asleep. The downside of relaxing games is boredom and the scenes can be quite similar but they are still very pleasant on the eyes and the environmental sound effects are great. It does have its fun moments too. For me, it's always the sound of those bottles and cans hitting the recycle bin. I just can't get enough.
This is an amazing game, old school, quirky, unique. I really like the multiple choice decisions about what to do and where to go next, rather like Steve Jackson's and Ian Livingston's role playing game books, although it does end up railroading you into one direction. At least there is the illusion of making your own decisions, which is almost as much fun. There are lots of HOS in this but also many other types of gameplay. At one point, I thought I was in a one person shooter and that was exciting. It manages to do all this without descending into a mish mash of chaos. The graphics aren't much to write home about but don't let that put you off. It was quite a long game too. After Chapter Thirteen, I lost count, I was keeping score of the chapters and after a while, I sort of wanted it to finish, a bit like this review.
