I'm surprised that I played this game this long, to be honest. I will start off by saying that I'm not a huge fan of the PHANTASMAT games, although the ones that I do have: The Endless Night, The Crucible Peak, and the Phantasmat Collection Edition, seemed to be a lot better than this latest version. The earlier games in this series held true to the 'horror, scare you' genre that many gamers like (me, personally, not one of my favorite genres, but there are some games that I do like).
Here are my PROS & CONS
PROS
1. The voiceover of the doctor was good. His voice was deep and mysterious, making you want to delve right into the game. (However, the voice of the man in the inn sounded too girlish. He stood there practically shaking, and his voice quivered. I know he was supposed to act like he was scared to be in Arcadia at night, in a storm to boot, but still. Us girls just don't like to see a man stand there asking a woman to help him find a flashlight!) 2. The music (from what I could remember) seemed appropriate for each scene. 3. The puzzles were interesting but somewhat on the difficult side for me (I'm definitely NOT a huge fan of puzzles so maybe if I'd of taken some time to figure them out, I might agree with the other reviewer when she said she loved the puzzles. Me, not so much). 4. Perhaps the best thing that I can say about this game is the HOS's (I think I encountered three). One was where you have a sentence with a highlighted word and while a narrator reads the lines (along with the rest of the story), you have to find the highlighted words. Sounds easy but it wasn't as easy as it looked, as some of the items presented didn't quite match the highlighted word (i.e. a bear that squeezed out ink??).
CONS
1. It did not match up to the popularity of the very first PHANTASMAT game. It wasn't the least bit scary. Whenever the black smokey shadow appeared then vanished, you're left with the feeling of "what was that?" and then "who cares?" 2. Some of the scenes were not as clear as they should have been. The colors...way too much blue (and blue is one of my favorite colors). This type of game should have had more blacks, grays, browns.
All in all, check out the demo for yourself. Enjoy :)
I have a doctor's appointment this morning or I would have played the whole 90 mins of the demo, but I wanted to submit my review first because I have already formed my opinion on what I know is going to be a FANTASTIC new game. (Another reviewer made several comments on how attractive the 'helper' is in this game. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to see how rogue and eye-appealing he is (YET), but I will as soon as I get home).
HERE ARE MY PROS AND CONS:
PROS
1. A good storyline that will attract other players to this game. 2. The HOS were interesting (only played two so far). They were interactive, and not so easy as to cause players to not want to play them. 3. The puzzles that I encountered thus far were on the easy side, but fun to play. This is always a plus for me because I don't necessarily enjoy puzzles or mini-games. By being somewhat on the easy side, but still, challenging is a definite + for me. 4. The opening scene grabs your attention, making you want to delve right in, just to see what happens next. 5. The music was appropriate and fit each scene nicely. 6. The voiceovers were nice.
CONS
The only con that I can see so far is the scene where the King and Queen are standing there. The King looks ridiculous. His caricature moves unrealistically, and his eyes kind of roll around and side to side. This is a definite negative for me because the developer should be paying more attention to the minor details regarding facial expressions, movements of arms, etc. (On a side note: he did listen to His Queen and obeyed her command of reading the scroll. I like to see women in more of a high-powered role, as men tend to be the HERO in way too many games, IMO).
There are coins to collect, and morphing objects to find. Other reviewers can give you more details on these areas as well as achievements, etc.
All in all, I think this is going to be a hit and gather many positive votes.
As always, try the demo for yourself, and you may be pleasantly surprised. Enjoy :)
I have three of the other Holiday games (Holiday Easter 2 & 3, and Holiday Halloween 2). Halloween 4 is definitely a 'STEP UP' from the previous versions. It offers:
1) Five categories for which to choose from:
A: Costumes B: Treat C. Decoration D. Family E. Autumn
2) Puzzles for which you can choose the number of pieces that range from 12 to 255.
3. You can NOW choose the 'MUSIC' and 'SOUND' volume. **NOTE: This has never been offered in any of the other Holiday games.
4. You can NOW choose to use the default/standard cursor, or the cursor that the developer has chosen for this game. **NOTE: This has never been offered in any of the other Holiday games.
5. The music is nice and appropriate for the Halloween season.
6. There are 13 pages of pictures per category.
7. Here are just a few of the standard choices that come with all of the Holiday puzzle games:
A. GHOST - Highlights the picture so that you can see what you are doing; very helpful, but in my opinion, the GHOST could be a little lighter, because it practically shouts out and is way too evident. The choice to lighten or darken would be nice for future games.
B. ROTATION - You can choose to have the puzzle pieces rotate. This makes it harder to solve, thus enabling your puzzle solving experience.
C. BORDER - You have the option to have just the border pieces displayed first, which most people who like to play any type of puzzle game, will most likely put the border together first.
All in all, this is probably the BEST Holiday jigsaw game offered to date. It gives you more options, very distinct and clear pictures, and a great variety of puzzles to choose from. The music makes the overall experience a +.
I love puzzles, and completing one, even better, so I wanted to see what this game was all about. This is a cute game for the young kids in the family, but I doubt whether it will interest adults.
It starts out like a cartoon, with a witch speaking about her house needing to be decorated, I think. The puzzles start out really easy, and then progress from that point on. You start out with three gold stars. You can make so many errors before you lose a star. I think the description stated that it was a timed game, but I saw no timer. Nonetheless, I get extremely nervous whenever I play any game that is 'timed', so as I progressed through the other puzzles, I found myself making silly errors because I was nervous.
The music was, however, appropriate for the Halloween Theme and great this time of year. You collect points and I assume you can start to decorate your house, but I never got that far. The game was just too tedious and simple for me.
All in all, if you have children, they will love this game, so give the demo a try. Enjoy :)
I recommend this game!

I'M 'NOW' A GRIM FACADE FAN!!
PostedOctober 22, 2016

fromSometimes when I'm trying to choose the current game that I am reviewing and have it for my CURRENT FAVORITE it doesn't show up in the list of games. This aggravates me as I want others to know that the game I am reviewing is NOW my favorite!
I wasn't much of a 'GRIM FACADE' fan (I've only one other game), until now. I have to say that I am simply amazed at the quality of this game, and even though it's a CE (as I've mentioned many other times, I rarely buy CE's, as I don't need all of the extras), I'm going to have to against even myself, and buy this, as soon as I finish this review.
HERE ARE MY PROS AND CONS (IF THERE ARE ANY):
PROS:
1. The voice that they've found (A) to introduce the game, and (B) to use for the villain, are simply spot-on. Deep, resonating, sexy, and definitely easy to listen to. It catches your attention right away. 2. The graphics are superb. Nothing blurry or distorted. Extremely crisp, clear, and eye-catching. 3. The music is well chosen and appropriate for each scene. 4. The HOS are fun but somewhat different than what we've seen in a while, IMO. There are two instances where you have to find a photo. But when you click on it, you then have to put pieces of that completed photo, back in their appropriate place. You just don't 'click' on it, and that's it. 5. The mini-games/puzzles are challenging. You have the option of choosing between casual and hard. But they are usually completed in a 2-4 step process. The one that I find the most interesting is the 'lock' puzzle. You have to solve one puzzle before going on to the other three. before the lock is opened. These puzzles (at least in the demo) provide you with some challenge while still giving you that fun factor as well. 6.The first collectible item is the robotic spider (I hate spiders, by the way). This spider is attached to the mayor's son. In order to defeat this rather huge spider, you have to slide down sections of each leg to find the correct symbol that is displayed on his upper torso. This was rather fun, and it's not as easy as it sounds. As far as the other 'collectibles', I don't like to pay much attention to them while playing the demo because it takes away from the time allotted. Plus the fact that I was so 'INTO' this game, that bothering with them was a waste of my time. (until I purchase the game, that is). 7. You get this 'memory fragment' finder thingamajig (can't remember the actual name). It's a round object that resembles a crown. It sits in the lower left of your screen and lights up when it needs to find memories. You then trace it around the scene. When it gets close to a memory, it will bounce. But you have to be rather quick, as the memories tend to move around. You have to find 5 fragmented memories.
CONS
1. The ONLY negative thing that I could find in this game was that the demo ended too soon.
This is a great addition to the other GRIM FACADE games. I always check out new games, of course, and I have also checked out prior GF games, in the past. They must have been lacking in something or they would have been a purchase for me. As I mentioned above, I only have purchased one other GF game, but now after playing the demo on this one, I will now have TWO.
As always, try the demo. You might be pleasantly surprised as I was. Enjoy :)
There will be other reviewers who will go into detail about the storyline, and all of the typical goodies that you get in a CE, so I won't go into any of that, suffice to say that this is a typical story of revenge and murder that happened long ago in an old, now haunted house.
HERE ARE MY PROS & CONS:
I will start with the CONS first because there may be more of those than the PROS:
1. The beginning cutscenes were somewhat terrible, from the scene of the family in the car to the time they enter the house. I especially did not like the father. When he was speaking in the car, WATCH THE MOVEMENT OF HIS EYES. They kept rolling side to side and downward (perhaps he's the one who is possessed). And when he walks, WATCH HIS ARMS. Very strange to see. I did, however, like the voices used for the characters. 2. Frequent movement from room to room, to the backyard, etc. which did help though due to the map that is transportable (you get this almost immediately). 3. Not many HOS as is the usual norm, at least in the demos. 4. I'm not sure about the collectibles. They didn't seem to be noticeable 'at all' (IMO), or it might have been that I was too 'into' the game to search for any of them. 5. This one can be looked upon as a PRO or a CON, depending on your own opinion: The cell phone that can locate ghosts. I found it was a little difficult (at first) to find one of the ghosts and match it up with the sound waves on one of the walls. However, the phone did resemble today's modern cell phone, and I found that to be somewhat on the realistic, but funny side.
PROS
1. I liked the music. I didn't necessarily find it scary or difficult to listen to which sometimes happens in creepy, scary games. I rather enjoyed it. 2. The voices of the characters were appropriate. Clear and easy to understand. The accent given to the Real Estate Agent was a nice touch. The lip-synching was 'so so'. 3. The mini-games/puzzles were fun and not to the point of being too easy, or to the extreme of being too difficult. 4. This game offered many things that are genre-appropriate, such as buried skeletons, writing on walls (and inside walls), dolls that take on the persona and voice of whoever is behind the killing and kidnapping of the children, and various other things. 5. A diary which is offers helpful information.
All in all, I don't think this is a bad game. It is not my 'cup of tea', but it did grab my attention as a possible buy when the SE comes out (if only I can overlook how silly the caricature of the father is).
When a famous shapeshifting alchemist is charged with looking into the murder of the king's most trusted agent and friend, the last thing she expects to discover is an intricate network of shadowy criminals, intent on bringing chaos to the land.
1. The colors and graphics are very distinct. Each scene is picture perfect with everything crisp, clear, and concise. 2. The cutscene at the beginning of the game piques your interest (the wolf chasing the young girl). 3. An interactive map that is provided for you at the beginning of the game. 4. You're an alchemist (or you can pretend you're a witch putting together a spell, as this is almost the Halloween season) who has to put together potions in order to accomplish certain feats. These potions give you the ability to fly and to shape-shift into various animals. 5. Interesting HOS and fun mini-games.
As always, please check out the demo, as you might find that you like this game just as much as I did. Enjoy :)
This game is perfect for the upcoming cool Fall season, and the kids favorite October event of Halloween. When those of us who love things that go BUMP in the night, or feel a cool breeze when entering a room, or better yet, feel something brush up against us, only to find that there is nothing there.
The beginning scene takes you right into the thick of things. From the realistic sound of the rain pelting down against your car, to something appearing in front of you causing you to lose control of your car.
The graphics are so realistic in this game. From the distinct shine of your black shoes and gray pants, (seen as your body is being dragged) to the many dark, dank scenes in the hotel. What I thought was rather neat, was while you were choosing the mode of the gameplay, you hear a very eerie, mysterious voice talking and threatening you. This has never been done before (at least that I can recall).
The music was typical: eerie, scary, and spooky. Just the right kind that you find in all of the Haunted Hotel games. The HOS are your typical variety. There was a lot of 'alive' things in the Hotel whenever you clicked on them. From broken, crumbling walls, to ghosts that suddenly appear. You never know what kind of reaction you're going to get whenever you click on something.
The puzzles/mini-games weren't very difficult with a good variety and were somewhat on the fun side.
Give the demo a try. If you like the other Haunted Hotel games in this series, you will like this one. If you like to play dark and dreary games, like to be scared, like ghosts, spiders and spiderwebs, a rat or two, and things that interact with you, then this game is for you. Enjoy :)
The only other 'Dark Romance' game I have in this series is 'The Swan Sonata', and I've yet to complete it. Not because it's not a good game, it's simply because I have so many great games, and I keep making the mistake of adding on, and on, and on, and it, therefore, leaves me with a lot of games to complete (which I don't really mind).
Here are the Pros & Cons (IMO):
I'll start with the CONS first, as there is only one:
1. The characters in the cutscenes moved oddly, almost liked they're on a gliding walkway that is moving them along without their input. It's quite comical and looks very unrealistic. Some of the lip-synching are bad. The only hand-drawn character that I thought was nicely drawn was Rachel. When she appeared, it was almost like a breath of fresh air, she looked so beautiful. I wonder why the other characters couldn't look as good.
PROS:
1. An excellent storyline that keeps you engaged. 2. The HOS were not as easily solved, which is a good thing. To keep the interest of the various mindsets of gamers, the game needs to have some difficulty. Sometimes we want that intrigue, that little bit of a spark to keep our interest. There are times, however, when we need a 'fluff-type' game, one that is rather on the easy side. There was one particular HOS that was a little on the difficult side (IMO). They were all very interesting, with the option of playing a Match 3 game, if desired. 3. The ability to switch between the two characters: Rachel & Richard. For a developer to give us this choice, is rather amazing, and outright brilliant, IMO. 4. Clear, crisp, and concise graphics with a nice color variant. I love games that are colorful, over ones that only have browns, blacks, and grays. 5. The music fit each scene appropriately. But to be honest, I was so involved in the game, that I paid little attention to it. 6. The mini-games/puzzles were interesting and gave you the option of playing a HARD or EASY version, which I like. Sometimes I will switch between the two, just to see how much they differ. 7. A very helpful way to let you know if you've gotten the morphing object, the roses, or the spells. On top of the inventory bar, are four round circles that are blue. In any particular scene, if one of the blue circles sparkles, this lets you know that there is that object in the scene. I wish all games provided this.
All in all, a great game that I will purchase without waiting for the SE. I don't normally purchase CE''s, but this one is a definite PLUS, but please try the demo and see if you'll agree. Enjoy :)
First of all, I had some technical problems initially. Many people posted complaints on the forum, so it must have made 'someone' fix the kinks rather quickly.
Here are my pros & cons on this game:
PROS:
1. A strong female voiceover: As many of you know, the voices that are oftentimes used in various games for the female, are weak or too quiet and don't really fit the role of a STRONG female character. In regard to this particular game, the Detective displayed a strong presence, which leads more credibility to her role. 2. Crisp, clear graphics. Even the cutscenes were nice. 3 Originality a PLUS in regard to some of the HOS. You are in a specific scene where a crime has been committed. The items that you need to find are covered up. You then have to find clues within the scene. When you've selected a clue, the item you need to find is uncovered. Once the clues are uncovered, you will then have to put the clues in the order in which the crime was committed. A new and very innovative way to play a HOS. 4. Fun mini-games/puzzles. They were not so difficult that you wanted to hit the SKIP button, but still challenging enough that you felt good just by accomplishing them (IMO).
CONS
The only negative thing that I have to say about this game, was the initial technical issues I had.
All in all, Crime Secrets: Crimson Lily is a decent game. Try the demo, and see if you agree.
