I only played this game in the "hardest" mode, where it only checks your solution at the end. The extra challenge is much more like the old pencil games, and I never had to guess. While the colors were often similar, the active color was glossy, while inactive colors were "grayed out". Some of the pictures were hard to see, even with the caption after completion, so this might have been better.

Storyline

This game had the potential to be good but just failed in every way. The HOS were too dark, making items hard to find. After tasks were unlocked, it was just wandering around previous scenes trying to find items that were also obscurely hidden in too dark areas. The plot was thin and weak, the voice overs cut out, and didn't match the subtitles. The mini-games/puzzles, which I normally almost never skip, I found myself skipping routinely because the directions were so unclear I had no idea what to do. I was constantly using the hint button. The game was long, which I would normally consider a good thing, but in this case, I was just wishing it would end already.
The graphics were average, sound average, puzzle difficulty slightly above average -- mostly due to the vague instructions. I played with most of the sparkles off, and finding some of the hot spots would have been impossible without the hint feature. I WAS interested in the story line, which was mysterious; however, it remained mysterious when the game ended rather abruptly. Ruined the whole thing for me.
The residents of Bitterford, Maine have fallen prey to a terrible curse. It’s up to you to unravel the series of mysterious events that led to the town’s downfall and uncover the evil that was responsible.

While the graphics and sound effects would appeal more to children, the game is fun, with various levels of difficulty available. The interface is intuitive and easy to use; can point & click or use the keyboard. I am also very happy with the variety of puzzles offered (I particularly like Link-a-Pix, which I had never seen before).
