I just finished the main game. Did ANYONE understand any of it? My favorite part of games is the storyline, but there are too many holes for it to be followed. Even the last 'battle' with the baddy; she just stood there smiling at the end. What happened? And what was accomplished? And why? I can't even put it down to bad translation issues in this case. They don't even explain the part the violin plays. Very strange, from beginning to end.
I don't recommend this game.

Personally, what draws me into a game is an unfolding story line. This game started out ok (although the girl with crutches seemed very out of place).... but as the game progressed it seemed as though every action was random and pointless. Ok, the hero is the chosen one. But chosen for what, exactly? What is she doing and why? What did she accomplish, ultimately? At the end, she solves a puzzle and....game over! No explanation, no clue. She goes home, I suppose. Yay.
I read every review of this game. And I played the entire game, including the admittedly short bonus game, yesterday. The two or three games I played before Bonfire Stories were so bad I was relieved when they were over. They had no story line to speak of, tedious busywork, and worse. So when I began Bonfire Stories, the enjoyment factor was huge. Bonfire Story has a story line that unfolds with the game-play, which I appreciate. The atmosphere is perfect. The characters first-rate. I did not experience tedium, as with the other games I had just finished. Yes, there was a broken zipper pull (AND a broken ladder), but they did have the grace to treat the second zipper pull in the Bonus Chapter with humor. I loved that! I do wish the game (especially the Bonus chapter) had been longer, but overall it wasn't so short so as to regret the purchase.
Very funny game. I enjoyed it once I realized it was meant to be campy. The closing scene was hilarious!
I recommend this game!

I could only play perhaps half of the demo. I probably would have purchased the game, as it was the daily special, but that hint dog! It would look left, right, then sniff the ground, repeat. It was in a perpetual 5-second loop. When I began to suspect the dog would cause me to form a nervous tic, I uninstalled it. :P
I don't recommend this game.

I absolutely loved this game. It has a wonderful storyline, and a great ending (I actually had tears in my eyes, lol). There are other people in the game!! I'm so tired of games where you never see anyone, unless it's a ghost. ^^ And there is no aimless wandering around; the tasks are clear and logical. Thank you for an awesome game!!
I recommend this game!

I played the entire game in one sitting. Some games have wonderful graphics, with voice overs matched perfectly by moving lips; however, often that is accompianied by weak storylines, short play time, and/or unsatisfying endings. Personally, I'd rather have a great, long lasting story with a satisfying ending than synched moving lips. I don't remember the last time I have enjoyed a game so much. Also, reading the notes, etc really added to the story. Don't skip them. Thank you.
This game is beautiful and the beginning was quite good. I'm more interested in the the storylines more than the puzzles, really, so if the story isn't told well I lose interest quickly. So this princess is drawn into a shadow world. I'm not sure what her objective was, other than to get home? The whole thing was disjointed and ended suddenly without any real reason to end-since there wasn't a specific item to find or a specific thing to do to fulfill to do so. Imho it fizzled.
I don't recommend this game.

I love original, quirky games like this!! Twice my game was erased, so I nearly gave up, but I'm glad I didn't. I reinstalled it and then it worked fine. Taken Souls feels like a CE with all the things you find and do. The translations are often humorous in their oddity. I'm still not sure how the handcuffs magically disappeared off my wrists, but hey. Fun game and totally unique ty.
