I tried to like this game but gave up. I completed the demo. A couple of improvements could be made--for example it would be better if you could combine powerups of different colors. As noted by another player, the grammar is not from an English-first writer, making some of the instructions inscrutable. On a positive note, the music score was very different with a mix of various styles. However, there were holes in the editing of the music which was distracting. Overall, there was nothing to get excited about.
This was my first time playing the Spellarium series, and I was pleased with the variations they employed. There was not the usual tutorial. Instead, they used an "instruction manual" to explain the various options. I had to refer to it many times in the beginning, and it was very helpful. I think that is a nice option for players who are used to the game and don't need a boring tutorial every time. I liked how you had to figure out a strategy for winning, unlike some games that just have you randomly click. The mini games were pretty fun, but I usually couldn't win the mahjong ones. They could make those a little less complicated for me. I have played the game twice and will play it again.
I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this game. The match-3 games had some unique features that required some planning in order to be successful if you want the most stars. I had a great time planting my garden and rearranged it several times. I really like looking at it in the low light like it was dusk. I bought all the optional properties and soundly trounced the ungrateful family members. I can see me playing this again.
This game exceeded my expectations after reading some of the negative reviews. It was along the lines of Emergency Crew or Campgrounds in terms of challenge, which suits me fine as I'm pretty slow. I enjoyed having to figure out the best use of resources, especially in the last few games, and had to restart a couple of times to get it right. I'll agree that the music did not suit, so I just turned it off. I eagerly await the next installment.
