I was very surprised and impressed by how much I enjoyed playing this game. As a big fan of Nearwood and Flights of Fancy, I loved the over-exaggerated lush scenery and clothing, as well as the adorable side option of furnishing your little pet's room with coins you find along the way.
Length of the game is always very important to me so I will start with that first: On Expert mode, it took me about 6 1/2 hours to play the main game, and about 30 min to play the bonus game with no hints or skips. I was a bit disappointed with the length of the extra game but the main game was very satisfying with a wonderful ending that was not abrupt or cut short at all.
As other reviewers have stated, this game is not very difficult or mind-bending at all, but there are some refreshing new mini-puzzles, and I enjoyed the different HOs. The graphics are great, the game is intriguing, although the good vs evil has been done to death, and I loved being able to jump to 5 different locations on the back of a golden dragon.
Overall, a very refreshing fantastical love story with some fun twists and turns, cute cat and dragon side-kicks, and enough locations and puzzles to keep the game interesting!
I was very hesitant buying this game because the CE got a lot of negative reviews, especially about the storyline and flow of the game which both are very important to me when I sit down to play a new game. After playing both the CE and SE, here are my thoughts about it.
The most important thing to me in any game is the length. I played on the hard setting and finished the main gameplay in about 5-6 hours…so the length was decent, and I had no problem with that.
The storyline itself was not half as bad as people made it sound; it wasn't so illogical that the plot made no sense, and I mean, it's a game about an underwater ghost…it's not going to hold itself against reality very well. I actually liked the banshee; her story was very sweet, the reason men were going missing was explained and it all fell into place very neatly. The ending was satisfying for the SE; a bit short and stilted but I thought it was wrapped up nicely.
There really was nothing very new or exciting about the game; no new mini-games or different HOs but I did like the many characters in the game, and the actual area of the game was very big compared to many of the other games I have played. The game had a style and feel that mimicked the 'Final Cut' games….one thing that did bother me at first was the size of the arrow symbol in the game, when I played the HOs I would have to move the arrow because it would be blocking items but I did get used to it after a short time.
I actually do recommend this game for anyone who likes the mermaid/ghost type stories, or to anyone who enjoyed the Final Cut series on here. It was fun and flowed well; had a nice size and length; and I had a fun time trying to stop a banshee and save a town in time for a wedding!
I am honestly surprised that this game has such good reviews. I sadly spent my free credit on this game and this is the second game I have ever yearned to be finished. Since so much has been covered by other reviews on length (4 hours for me) and graphics and such, I am just going to focus on the absurd storyline.
You apparently are a detective, bent on discovering why all the reality stars of a current hit series have disappeared on set. The entire game takes place on the winding set of the show, and it is absolutely decrepit and molded and overgrown…how was a current show being filmed there? Where are all of the hundreds of film staff? Why is a villain able to make a film set his abode? How have some of the stars been held and tortured for days out in the open when it is a current, active film set? Just…what? What?? I loved the idea of the storyline when I read the description of the game. And it could have worked. If they hadn't tried to force feed the creepy by sacrificing all logic in creating this game.
The graphics were less than sub-par. No original games. Normal journal, map, hint refill. Nothing worth paying money for this game and less than stellar storyline makes even a free credit too much. Absolutely baffling that this made it to a game.
Please please try the demo before you take trust fall on this one. It will not catch you.
The mystical Silver Arrow has been stolen from you on the eve of your wedding. Without it, you can’t marry your beloved Prince Philip! Can you track down the arrow in time?
Normally when I write reviews I try to cover all of the basics without giving away anything in the actual storyline. And no, I would be no true Big Fishy if I let any spoilers slip out. Just be warned, this game is surprisingly up close and personal with injuries and wounds. Now, most games when an animal or person gets hurt, not much is shown….and this game was very open about showing injuries. Within the first few minutes of game play, your beloved dog is attacked, DISLOCATES HIS SHOULDER and lies there crying in pain while you race around to find items to heal him. You have to wrench his little leg back into place! And later, a bear has his leg caught in a trap, and you not only free him, you stitch his bloody wound shut while he cries out in bear whimpers of pain. And those are just the first two instances in the first hour of gameplay!
The graphics are beautiful and crisp, they remind me somewhat of Dark Parables and a bit of Nearwood style. Voiceovers are nice, the game has a great length for the main game I thought, about 5 hours give or take. I just…I liked the game. I did…but for anyone who does not like animals hurt or crying or whining or open wounds on cute loyal critters….give this one a pass maybe. Or at least gear yourself up for it. I was completely unprepared and had to turn my sound off at least a couple of times because animals and bodily harm do not do it for me. I half-expected a Sarah McLachlan song to start playing when my dog lay there injured and in pain… I just didn't like it. I do better when people are hurt in games, weirdly enough.
So yes this game was another ERS classic, in style, storyline, and HOPA. The HO's were great fun especially and the little details in the game were great. But for anyone who is kind of squeamish (like myself)…maybe try the demo first? I am torn between the rating…but I am giving it a four because without the critter gore, it would be an awesome game to settle down and play.
So many dreams…so little time! Review of the CE and SE version.
This game was objectively very well done and had a few new puzzles that haven't been overdone and had a good length of game play. However it will frustrate some gamers because it is deceptively mechanic and hardware themed.... Yes yes, I knew it would be sic-fi but the name 'Emerald Maiden' evoked a rather Victorian feel for me. I am the type of person that loves to do cooking puzzles and sneak around castles, so putting together ray guns, and machinery after new tech machinery was rather boring and eye-glazing. It reminded me of the 'Abyss: Wraiths of Eden' game that also had a good storyline but so much grey metal scenes that it lost it for a fairytale adventurer like myself.
Overall the length of the game was great about 5 and a half hours on 2nd mode, with three modes to play on. For those thinking of the CE version, don't. The length of the bonus game was abysmal…maybe 25 minutes with no hints and the main game had such minimal collectables (16 roses) and no notable achievements. Not worth it.
The graphics were somewhat washed out, and the characters were very realistic from far away but startlingly cartoonish up close, which threw me off the emontional bond I like to create with the cast. The plot was easy to unravel after the first 30 minutes, and the ending was an obvious ploy for a sequel but still wrapped things up in a satisfying way. BIGGEST PEEVE: the dreams were at most one or two scenes…max. Which was sad to me. I thought the majority of the game would be in different worlds when in fact maybe an 1/8th of game time was bouncing quickly to a jungle setting. Boo…
I would recommend this game SE version to anyone who is a big fan of the nitty gritty sci-fi tools and doesn't mind tinkering with radios and rockets, or for those of you who really want a change from the fanciful games out there. Worth the time it takes to play for the SE price or a free game credit. It had a few good tidbits, nothing wowed me but I didn't stop playing it either.

I have been a fan of the Christmas stories series since the first Nutcracker game came out, and I took on this game hoping and hoping that it would be an equal to the previous game in the series. Interestingly enough, the plot was less cute and adorable as the first but held its own and was a wonderful game to immerse myself into as the snow fell outside my window and outside Scrooge's mansion.
Beautiful, glittering graphics, crisp scenes and HO's, an awesome array of mini-puzzles that will satisfy both adventure and HO fans alike. The storyline was an excellent play on the classic Scrooge story with good twists. The length averaged around 6 hours for me…but I did spend a lot of time looking at the scenes and making my way slowly through the game. The Christmas feel of the game was a great mixture of nature and classical and cute.
I absolutely love traditional holiday games, especially winter and Christmas themed. I do hold the Nutcracker game higher because of the overwhelming cuteness of the dolls and tiny soldier…but that's more of my obsession with miniatures, not the effort the designers put into this game.
Now, after playing the CE, I would suggest the die-hard Christmas fans to go for the CE only if they want to see the kitty cats from the previous game. The bonus chapter was rather short and the last puzzle was confusing so I had to skip it…It has nothing to do with the main game at all, which wraps up in a very satisfying way all by itself. The collectables are minimal…I am NOT a fan of morphing objects to find (34 penguins) because you have to sit and wait for them to switch before you can click on them, and this game as great as it was, was really not worth the extra money, unless you want to keep the Christmas spirit going for a bit longer.
I absolutely recommend this game as an SE, for any age and for any player level. It is enchanting and brings the fuzzy cozy feelings, no matter the weather or season you're in. For the big Christmas Stories fans, go for the CE.

Here is my review after playing the CE version of this game!
I am a huge fan of the Dana Kingstone collection and have played every CE that has come out. And while it stayed true to the old-fashioned style and graphics, the length of the game appalled me even if I had only purchased an SE.
The biggest thing I look through reviews for on Big Fish is the length of a game, especially if I am investing money. So here is my experience and length of game:
After starting the game on Intermediate mode, I blew through the first chapter in only 25 minutes. Worried, I played the rest on Expert mode with no guide use, and still managed to finish the game in it's entirety in 3 hours and 20 minutes. So the entire length of the SE part was significantly less than 4 hours. For those of you wondering if the bonus chapter would add enough time to warrant a look at the CE instead, don't bother. When the main game ended I was extremely disappointed. "It's ok", I thought to myself, "I still have the bonus chapter." Which I finished in less that 15 minutes. LESS THAN 15 MINUTES. With no guide use. Total time for both the game and the bonus chapter was still under 4 hours, which is absolutely abysmal and makes the amount paid for the game not worth the short gameplay either in SE or in CE, unless you are a true die-hard Dana fan or have a free credit to use.
The plot was the similar ghost apparition leading us on a mystery but actually almost identical this time to the last game, which was frustrating. The villain of the game doesn't try to stop you from poking around his house, so the danger thrill is minimal... (and the collectables for the CE were 40 cards that were easy to see and were put in each scene so it was no fun collecting).
I very much enjoy the Dana games…but this one was absolutely disappointing in length and freshness of the plot. But as a fan of the actual series, I do still recommend this game to any Kingstone fans that don't mind the shortness, in exchange for the ability to get back into this style of ghost world. But only as an SE, and maybe only as a free credit. Definitely do NOT invest in the CE. The bonus chapter is more like a bonus blurb, and the story resolves itself in the main game.
I guess I am going a bit against the flow here by saying that this game really really disappointed me. After playing hundreds of games and especially Elephant games, I found not one single bit of this game original in the slightest. Help blonde Cinderella defeat the evil brown-haired fairy with the help of her blonde fairy Godmother. The only thing possibly bold and original about this game was the daring mullet haircut the Prince flaunts.
The graphics, of course, were stunning and crisp. The voice-overs were normal with good animations of characters and cute animals alike. The plot was yawn-inducing, an exact replica of hundreds of Cinderella and evil fairies that have marched before it. The length was average. It did not grab me in the slightest.
Two big things that bothered me: The map is helpful but from the first moment when you click on it, it shows EVERY place you will be in the game. In detail. I could see instantly what future scenes would look like, and it really bugged me because it took all the suspense of traversing a game right out. The second thing is the set-up of the scenes themselves. There would be tiny spots right next to each other or on the very edge of the screen that I would overlook or miss and later would find an object that was useless. I spent so much time walking around completely frustrated and used the hint button almost constantly to point out spots that I had not seen. Now, I have played many many games, and this never happens to me. Either I was really off my Big Fish game, or the way the active locations are spread out are really weird and tiny.
Overall, if you don't mind a used plot and generic good vs evil then go for it. The graphics really are beautiful, as always with Elephant games, and this would be a fun game for beginning Fishies out there or anyone who doesn't want a weird twisting storyline. The animals are adorable, the hint button is (extremely) helpful at times, the map fast-tracks, good sprinkling of puzzles, crisp HO's and the ending is satisfying. I suggest playing the demo to see if the game style is a bit frustrating like it was for me with the lack of direction, or maybe I was just having an off day.
