This game is more of an arcade game than a time management game. If you like arcade games you might find this fun. If you like strategic time management then you better try the demo first. I would not recommenced this game as a time management selection ...

I'm not very good at 'Virtual' type games. This is not to say I don't like them, I do, I'm just not very good at them. This one, however, I seem to be able to play and make some progress. It's not too busy. As mentioned the characters actually do what you start them doing. They can develop multiple skills too over time if you have them doing different things. So, if Sally's a builder, and you put her on a building you'd like to see constructed, she'll start building. Now, she may be sleeping if you check up on her, or eating, or getting 'private' with Henry heh heh but you know, when she's done she'll go back to building. If you later put her on research she'll in time have her strengths in building and also in research. If she has good mental aptitude and strength, she can become a very resourceful individual.
The other thing is that it promises to be a very versatile game. I just gt it today after trying the demo but here's the thing. These guys are on an island but there are billions of islands! No really, billions as in 1X10^9. They're numbered, My island is 2 billion and something. A billion. If I counted each island at the rate of one a second 24/7 it would take me about 32 years to count just one billion islands, they have, well, at least more than 2 billion islands. No, I don't know how that's possible but it means in my lifetime I would not be able to explore all those islands and I plan on living to be an old man! So that's cool. With research you learn new technologies and I guess (remember I just started) you can eventuallly build a boat and go to new islands.
I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars because I \'ve just started playing it.That's probably not fair but until I know it better I can't justify 5 stars. (Also I'm more a fish, plant tycoon guy rather than a virtual guy) So far though it's looking to go in that direction. So if the other virtual games have left you cold you might try this one. I got babies everywhere and one day plan on having a fleet of ships exploring ,well, a couple hundred islands. By the way the islands are numbered and you can select a number. This might be good for comparing notes in a forum or something. Billions of islands ... jeeze ...

Find it hard to play any other solitaire game after this. For one thing you can set your level of difficulty. You can get aides to help your play but you need to earn them. Some let you deal one card a a time, some highlight your available plays, others find the aces for you etc. You can use them but you can't use them all! You must decide what the best combination is given your available resources which you also have to earn. There's one that lets you play with 2 decks and 8 tableau spaces! Oh yeah. For a challenge use few helpers. Want to get the highest score in the world? Use all the help you can get! This is easily the most versatile and enjoyable of the solitaire games I've played. It's enjoyable making that highest score of the day too (which regrettably gets beat by some wizard solitaire player online in short order heh heh tip: Don't be afraid to gamble!). Highly recommend this one. Oh, the music, yes, the music.Great selection of riffs. Often play it just for the sound track. No really. Kudos to whoever selected the music scores... If ever there was music geared for solitaire this game has nailed it down ...
This is a 'real time' game that sort of evolves. When I leave the house I'll think 'oh my', did I feed the fish?!' I look forward to what may have been concocted from the last burst of creativity I had the night before. I twiddle around in the aquariums like a person in a garden in no particular hurry speculating if I should go with the tried and true 30 dollar money cows or spend a couple days trying for some esoteric jack pot with multiple fins and fanning purple tails. This is not a game that you sit down and win or lose in a finite period of time. The 'magic fish' might indicate winning I suppose but I give them very little thought. In this game the journey is the thing. I'm always winning because with it I'm always enjoying the 'game'. Every time I play I learn something new. This game just becomes a part of the daily routine. Have your coffee, feed the fish, check for ich or fungus, sit there and do nothing for a time or two. Make some progress here, suffer the pangs of a generation getting wiped out for some reason there, ah, temperamental types, let the food bar get too low, dang, need to keep track of that. Start catching myself saying things like 'oh I can't put him in tank two, he'd be the only one of his species, might get lonely. Might save up for that fancy ornament but should really put some more money into environmental research instead, been losing too many fish in their teens lately. Yeah this is a great game, the cat's meow. It'll grow on you to be sure. And, in my case anyway, has gone a long way into introducing me to patience, calm, and just the Zen of the moment. A great game at a ridiculously low price. Enjoy!
I got this a few days ago. I was going to comment that it wasn't challenging but then discovered it had more levels of difficulty doh! As Najia7 pointed out, it is far more a 'Risk' type game than a historical reference. What they do have is interesting but easily found anywhere. I think it has less of a luck factor than Risk although I can't exactly define why that is. Well worth the price. I've already put in several hours of play and still haven't mastered it yet nor find my interest waning. Scenarios can be played quickly for when you need just one more game but it's past bed time. The whole sequence will take much longer. Saving games is a snap and most of the user interface is intuitive. I would like to see a little more strategy i.e. supply rules, fog of war, that sort of stuff. Also the historical stuff could be better integrated and more thorough. But hey, six bucks, come on! I'm just whining now. I recommend this for game aficionados, would not recomend it as a prep for that history test.
Very good quality game! I haven't tried all the solitaire games at BigFishGames yet but I've tried quite a few. If I had to pick just one I would pick this (well, Fairway being a contender). There's a wide variety of layouts. There's a very large challenge curve but a lot of tools available to meet those challenges. For instance the cannon balls! I've been playing for a couple weeks and just now discovered that you can actually use them to remove cards doh! They're not cheap though so there's definitely a strategy element involved. Myself I like the background music but, for all these type games, I would like to see offered a selection. Very much recommend this game! Hope to see upgrades with more action on developing the port, the arsenal, the ship etc. Having 'experience' bonuses would add to it too I think. Overall just a great, highly enjoyable game!
I recommend this game!

Ah, great game, along with Seven Seas Solitaire, easily one of my favorites. To give it 5 stars I would like to hear more banter with the MC's. This was my first 'solitaire with a theme' game I've played, have tried a lot of the others. I don't know, I just like the action without a lot of clutter, the variety of spreads and those oh so lame jokes lol. I'm developing a real passion to whacking the gopher, you should grow to really dislike the little fella! Needs a way to permantly save profiles though. Lost three whole pages of games, money, and golf tournament aides when puter crashed, not once but twice! Ouch. Highly recommend this game!
Can't believe these poker pros associated their name with this. It's not even played using Holdem rules. It's a limit game with the option to go all in. In other words you can't control the size of your bet! That's kind of a crucial point playing No Limit. I found the 'pros calling all-ins with J8 off etc, they play aggressively with no mixing it up, pretty predictable. Not really a challenge. Might be fun if you don't actually play poker. If they worked on this they could make it fun. Looks like they're just riding on the names ...
