Deep Shadow games new series "Medium Detective: Fright from the past" shows potential, but fans of this developer may be left with more questions than answers after completing the investigation.
You play Claire Arlington, a novice detective who has been summoned to investigate a series of murders that occur once in a decade. While Detective Pike supervise's your deductions you soon realize that this is no ordinary investigation. Something sinister lurks in the shadows....They call him "The Man of The Shadows" and he is back after 10 years of seclusion, only to begin murdering once again! There is a lot of history to discover with this investigation. When a strange series of murders associated with an old tale starts terrorizing the locals, you must use your ability to see the past, and this will be critical in order to stop the dangerous creature from its revenge and the destruction of the city. You have everything you need to uncover the dark origin of the "Shadow Man" in time. Can you stop everything or make it your next victim? There are some interesting events along the way too, so you are rarely bored with the action or the story. I enjoyed the unique puzzles to test your wits even if the underlying mechanics are not very different from what you may be accustomed to. The graphics and sound SFX are in need of some work, but this mystery adventure is quirky and fun which can be advantageous with regard to holding your interest as you progress thru the game. Look for the writing on the wall left by the "Man of The Shadows" in the beginning of the game. It's clearly taken from the original "Nightmare on Elm Street" movie. One, Two Shadow's coming for you.....3, 4 better lock your door. 5, 6 you must run from his tricks. 7,8 try not to shake. 9, 10 HE'S BACK AGAIN!!! I enjoyed the first installment of this new series. I wonder if it will be as popular as their other series TALES OF TERROR and HAUNTED TRAIN?If you like this mystery, be sure to check out Tales of Terror: House on Haunted Hill. It's a blast to play too! Cheers!
I recommend this game!

This edition of Labyrinths of the World was a must purchase for me. I am happy to be part of the "fan base" who enjoy Domino games and their creative team. A Dangerous Game is the 7th edition in the series and I still enjoy Labyrinths of the World. In this installment you are on a vacation in Greece with your best friend Christine when you both stumble upon a mysterious board game. Suddenly, you discover yourself in a parallel world with your friend missing. Can you beat the evil mastermind behind this bizarre world, save your friend, and survive this dangerous game? This latest installment immerses the player in a Jumanji-like world, one that is both fascinating and terrifying. The fast-paced storyline is effectively delivered through plenty of actions and rather minimal dialogues. The game board theme is used in a creative way that distinguishes this game from the other exotic fantasy adventures. Domini seems to be able to come up with some creative plot every single time they create another edition to this popular series. The hidden object scenes are multi-layered, innovative, and fun to play. The game heavily revolves around puzzles, big and small. I enjoy the detailed artwork and interesting scene designs in this sequel. The more subtle soundtrack choices also turn out to suit the game well. I hope fans of this unique series will enjoy this next adventure in the continuing saga of Labyrinths of the World...Cheers!
I recommend this game!

This edition Grim Tales 14: The Time Traveler surpassed all my expectations with its captivating storyline and extraordinary gameplay. The Hidden object scenes and puzzles were executed with tremendous attention to detail and design, but it was the use of inventory items and progression of the story that was most challenging for me. Some of the puzzles are just too dificult. Like the description in the intro you're cast in the role of Aunt Gray and you've been called to the Gray's to a family barbecue when disaster strikes and you get into a car accident. Not only that, but it turns out that your nephew has been murdered by a crazed maniac, and the only way to stop him is to travel back in time and prevent him from achieving his plans. This edition has a back story the involves an inheritance. You will learn about the details when you discuss this with your deceased father. I love the distorted SFX in the voice over of your father Richard Gray during your conversations with him. The story takes an odd twist when you learn the villain "time traveler" thinks the Grays and McGrays have stolen his share of the inheritance. William McGray seems to have had two step brothers, Ralph and Edward Maxwell. Ralph seems to be the suspicious one when he suggests the inheritance belongs to his brother Edward. Then it becomes really confusing when Alfred Gray-Nash (another relative) appears in the story with his relative August Nash. August is enamored with the "time traveler" so much that he develops a chemical formula to allow him to time travel too. His motive is clear. When the "time traveler" lies and tells August the Gray's and McGray's are responsible for his parents death. He wants to go back in time and save his parents from a train wreck that took their lives. It's up to you Anna, to save all involved while simultaneously figuring out this debacle. If not for the help of your deceased father (and the cool SFX voice acting) dialogue exchange you'd be lost.
Good luck with this exciting and engaging new edition. Pay careful to details because the storyline requires it. I was surprised with the ending and fans may feel this way too! I really hope these developers continue with this level of quality with this series, this epic adventure deserves more than just 5 stars... Enjoy!

Grim Facade: The Message is part of the long-running hidden object series that focuses on the supernatural and grim murders. In this latest edition the story begins when a medium calls for the main character in order to investigate some dark premonitions, but as it turns out, you are too late to save her. To make matters worse, you are wrongfully accused of her murder as well, which makes your investigation even more difficult. Naturally, there are other interesting events along the way too, so you are rarely bored with the action or the story. I enjoyed the unique puzzles to test your wits even if the underlying mechanics are not very different from what you may be accustomed to, but some of the puzzles push the limits a little bit. This is a great way to keep you engaged, because regular hidden object sequences can only be fun for so long before they become repetitive. In addition, the eerie environment plays a major role in certain puzzles, which helps with the overall atmosphere. Speaking of which, the graphics are pretty dark, given the theme of the game, but the artwork is very detailed and enjoyable. Almost everything you see in the scenes is hand-drawn, and the artists did not hold back when it comes to backgrounds and character design. As usual, the cuts-cenes are a bit stiff and basic, but they get the point across, and they are usually pretty short anyway. This edition proved to be a worthy mystery for a seasoned detective and to sum things up, armchair detectives everywhere should have a blast with Grim Facade: The Message, especially since the mystery is pretty fun and convoluted. In addition, the gameplay is fun and quite diverse for the most part. Whether your a medium or an extra-large, casual gamers of all sizes and all levels should enjoy this adventure. LOL! Cheers.
In this series:
•Grim Facade: Deadly Dowry
•Grim Facade: The Red Cat
•Grim Facade: Monster in Disguise
•Grim Facade: Hidden Sins
•Grim Facade: The Artist and the Pretender
•Grim Facade: A Wealth of Betrayal
•Grim Facade: The Cost of Jealousy
•Grim Facade: Sinister Obsession
•Grim Facade: Mystery of Venice

Domini game developers release the latest edition of their Dark Romance saga which fans may really enjoy. Beginners or those who are unfamiliar with this series may also be enticed to play. I still appreciate the feature of switching between the perspectives of the two main characters, a feature that defines the Dark Romance series and in this sequel especially, saves the game from being repetitive with a unique take on an adaptation of the classic tale of Snow White.Your journey takes you to the kingdom of Lanceya, where the Evil Queen Nevilla is seeking to destroy the Princess Lily of Winterhelm in order to gain her eternal youth via her soul. You play both Princess Lily and Prince William as they join forces to not only to defeat Nevilla but reunite with one another because they're in love. This won't be an easy task since Queen Nevilla has captured not just William but King Edmund (Lily's father) and Queen Grace (William's mother). She also casts a spell over Prosper the town Alchemist and his fairy companion Maya. Prosper knows about the book of Obsidian curses which requires an Obsidian scepter which can destroy BLACK magic. Obsidian is black not green (something the developer's missed in this edition). You'll need to save all of them, especially Queen Grace. Queen Grace is crucial to the storyline without ruining the game. Time is of the essence too, for Queen Nevilla grows a year older by the minute. I loved the entire adventure but I will admit I was routing for Nevilla the entire time! Wouldn't it be great if just once the old villain triumphed over the pugnacious millennial Lily and lived forever? (LOL).
It certainly would make Dark Romance even more interesting and give a whole new life into this somewhat predictable series. Domini Games did a solid job with the production of Dark Romance: Winter Lily. The visuals are rich in color, and I think that the color scheme of the graphics suits the mood of the game well. The cinematic and the animations in this sequel are also done to the highest caliber, some of the very best works from this developer. The main game takes over four hours to master, and the bonus chapter takes about another hour. The Collector’s Edition also comes with a plethora of bling that other reviewers always mention during demo reviews. Enjoy this game even if the Villain loses. Cheers!
In this series
•Dark Romance: Vampire in Love
•Dark Romance: Heart of the Beast
•Dark Romance: The Swan Sonata
•Dark Romance: Kingdom of Death
•Dark Romance: Curse of Bluebeard
•Dark Romance: Romeo and Juliet
•Dark Romance: The Monster Within

Mystery Case Files: The Revenant's Hunt is a casual puzzle game with hidden object gameplay mechanics, in which you play the role of a supernatural investigator and travel to America in order to tackle a curious case. Since the game follows the usual standards set by the genre, MCF fans should feel right at home from the beginning, while beginners can use the tutorial to get the hang of things in a matter of minutes. There are thousands of monster stories all over the world, regarding everything from dragons, to ghosts and vampires. Some apparitions appear more common in certain parts of the globe, but there’s definitely no safe place if you are willing to believe such legends. Naturally, the subject is much safer and more approachable in the world of video games, given the fact that you are never really at risk. The story starts with the main character setting off to America, or more exactly to the town of Avondel. Here, you realize that a menacing monster is terrorizing the locals, and things get pretty hairy as soon you step into town. Hence, you have to track the beast to the best of your abilities, as well as prevent it from making more victims in the future. In regards to the visual presentation, Mystery Case Files: The Revenant's Hunt is as pretty as the old technology used to develop it allows. Granted, the hand-drawn environments are definitely detailed and colorful, while also requiring very few system resources. In addition, the game features full voice acting for every dialog sequences, which is better than average and always nice to have. When it’s all said and done, Mystery Case Files: The Revenant's Hunt is clearly a bit more polished than your average HOPA, especially in terms of puzzles and the graphics. However, it’s just as approachable as any game in the genre, so anyone can have a blast with it. The puzzles were somewhat tedious (some players may just skip them) but referencing the strategy guide helps. IMHO this is one of the better MCF installments that casual gamer's of every level can enjoy. Cheers!

It’s quite the rush to find the culprit and solve the mystery, but the game as a whole needs to keep you invested from start to finish, as well as feature a nice cast of character in order to make the whole thing feel believable and engaging.
Noir Chronicles: City of Crime is a gritty adventure game with puzzle and hidden object elements, in which you play the role of a detective named Gingertail. The game features the usual gameplay mechanics found in casual HOPAs, so you shouldn’t go in looking for original concepts or anything of the sort. However, at least the riddles can be pretty challenging every now and again.
The whole thing starts when Gingertail (Fox) is called to the house of his ex-girlfriend Barbara, where he finds out that she has been murdered. You must conduct the investigation and find the clues to lead you to the culprit, as well as make sure that the detective doesn’t take his revenge too far in the process. The story is not groundbreaking material, but there are enough engaging scenes to make you forget about it. The gameplay formula is as classic as it can get if you are a veteran of the genre, which means that all you have to do is examine every scene carefully and pick up items. These items can then be used to open the way to the next scene, as well as solve the occasional puzzles. Speaking of which, there are all sorts of mini-games when it comes to the puzzles, each one of which requires either coordination or a bit of critical thinking. I could do without the mini-games where you punch the opponent. I just think that's a little juvenile for a mystery adventure. Lastly, the graphics are the same pre-rendered scenes with hand-drawn artwork on top, but they look gorgeous most of the time, and the artists were free to add as much detail as they wanted without impacting the performance. In addition, there’s excellent voice acting for dialog scenes, as well as carefully-chosen sound effects to go along with the action on the screen. Brave Giant may really have a great new series in the works and I'd like to see more games in this series. Hopefully you will too. Cheers!
I recommend this game!

In this twelfth game of the never-ending Dark Tales series, you are to assist Detective Dupin in the investigation of an ominous case. The McDougall family has disappeared from their new house, known grimly as the Devourer of Souls. The first question I had into this game was “how is this any different from all the previous Dark Tales?”. Dark Tales: Edgar Allan Poe’s Morella feels like a game we have played way too many times before. The storyline is predictable, the so-called twists can totally be seen coming, the characters are mundane and forgotten, and even the environment feels familiar. The production of Dark Tales: Edgar Allan Poe’s Morella is a bit of a mixed bag. On one hand, the quality of the graphics remains impressive and the special effects are sufficient to spice up the otherwise boring game. On the other hand, the tedious and flat soundtracks certainly do not help make the game any better and the uninspired scene design just adds to the dullness of the game. As expected, Dark Tales: Edgar Allan Poe’s Morella features a cookie-cutter HOPA gameplay. The adventure part is nothing to be excited for and the hidden object scenes are not groundbreaking by any means. If there is one thing that this game did right, it is the puzzles. Some of the puzzles in this game are surprisingly original and creative, with just the right level of difficulty. It is also worth mentioning that members may want to visit the "game forum" of the CE version as you may encounter technical difficulties which may or may not allow you to play this game even though this is the SE version. Dark Tales: Edgar Allan Poe’s Morella ticks in at the four hour mark, while the bonus chapter is approximately an hour long. Given the ho-hum quality of the game, I do not recommend the Collector’s Edition unless there is a massive sale or you have extra cash to spare. The bonus section contains the usual; a strategy guide, wallpapers, concept art, screensavers, soundtracks, videos, a jigsaw puzzle, achievements, collectibles, re-playable hidden object scenes, and re-playable puzzles. Fans and fellow reviewers; I think AMAX/ERS have some of the most interesting and entertaining series in the BFG catalog and it would be nice to see a new series emerge from these developers. One of the major problems with AMAX Interactive (formerly known as ERS Game Studios) is that they never know when to end a series. Cheers!
The series in order:
•Dark Tales: Edgar Allan Poe's Murders in the Rue Morgue
•Dark Tales: Edgar Allan Poe's The Black Cat
•Dark Tales: Edgar Allan Poe's The Premature Burial
•Dark Tales: Edgar Allan Poe's The Gold Bug
•Dark Tales: Edgar Allan Poe's The Masque of the Red Death

Beyond the Invisible: Darkness Came is a detective game in which you have to gather clues, solve puzzles and explore a series of creepy locations in order to unravel a mystery and help a young girl named Ailvia return to her world of magical elves in order to defeat the "creepy shadow creatures". The whole game is presented using dark and gritty landscapes, but your role is to find your way out of the nightmarish locations and maybe even catch a few bad guys along the way. The story starts when the detective is stopped in the middle of a dark road by a fallen pole, which prevents him from going further. Naturally, you step into the nearest town in order to find help, but as it turns out, things are not very pleasant here. Not only that, it turns out that the whole thing was a trap to get you there, so you must use your wits in order to escape unharmed from the ordeal. The rest of the game is as straightforward as it gets in the genre, which means that you have to use various items in order to solve puzzles and progress from one scene to the other. There are all sorts of mini-games as well, including mazes and a whole lot of hidden object scenes. Some of the puzzles can be more time-consuming than others, but there are some interesting riddles awaiting you.
I like the fact the whole experience is pretty dark and moody, and that is achieved using gritty artwork and nice special effects. Every scene looks like something out of a horror scene, and there’s plenty of detail in the artwork as well. Even the cutscenes are designed to be creepy, in spite of the comic book-style drawings that replace the 2D renders you might be used to. In the end, Beyond the Invisible: Darkness Came is not nightmare material and (there is no hand-holding unless you like the hint button), but it’s dark enough to make you uneasy and help with the overall atmosphere of the game. Thus, it’s worth a shot if you are into detective stories. I give it 3.5 stars. Cheers!
I recommend this game!

The fifth chapter in the famous Cadenza series is here and the stakes have never been higher. Theo is about to propose to his girlfriend, Elaine, when a masked man appears out of nowhere and kidnaps her in the restaurant and is holding her hostage. You play Nathaniel in this edition a family friend to Theo and Elaine. You soon learn that Theo is the undersign of a devious contract created by this masked villain known as the Phantom of the eternal dance. The adventure quickly becomes fast paced as you race against the clock to find the written enchanted melody of the eternal dance and play it with a violin in an attempt to save Elaine. The Phantom warns you that the eternal dance will NOT BE DENIED, but the music in your heart has the power to free everyone. The storyline is unique and I love the eye candy graphics. I love the awesome voices of the characters who do not just dry read the script but instead puts emotion in their voices. I feel more involved in story with great voice overs. The cryptex gadget that you use in the piano is a clever and useful tool that adds an extra surprise to the adventure too. I can say nothing negative even though it was a very short game.
You know the old saying: “You can please some of the people all of the time and you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”.” I think it's the appropriate metaphor for the Cadenza Series as a whole. While Cadenza continues to maintain an average 4 star rating, some editions are better than others. Fans of the series may be undecided during demo play but are likely to enjoy this one if played from start to finish. I did and I look forward to more Cadenza games in the future. Cheers!
