I really wanted to like this game. In theory it's a nice, restful mosaic. It's pretty. The levels are decent sizes, not too big to be overwhelming but big enough to be a challenge. Unfortunately several of the puzzles came up without the extra 5x5 grid that makes problem solving easier. That was annoying, but it only happened now and then. On top of that, though, not all the puzzles are solvable without blind guesswork - and to me, that defeats the point of the game.
When your daughter, Emily, is taken over by a mysterious force, you must travel to the Nightmare Realm to search for a cure. But nothing could have prepared you for what you find there…
I really enjoyed the storyline of this game - it definitely kept me interested... despite the fact that it wasn't much of a Hidden Object Game! There were only a few HO scenes. Instead there were mostly puzzles, about half of which I skipped because I couldn't be bothered - I'm not really a puzzle fan. I want hidden objects! The one other complaint I have is that the map doesn't transport you to where you need to be. Really great story, though. Mostly I skip the story, but this one drew me in and kept me interested.
If I want to play a game where I shoot a crossbow or climb a wall, it's not going to be a point-and-click adventure, sorry. And this game had waaaaaaaay too much of that. I ended up not bothering to finish the game as a result, which is too bad. I liked the story, the map was decent, the puzzles were interesting without being overwhelming. I'd have liked more HOGs with longer lists, but they weren't hard to see or confusing, and there was some variety in the types of clues - words, pictures, or puzzle pictures. Really, for my money, the developers should have wasted less time on pretend shooting at things and spent it on more HOGs. I won't be playing any more games in this series.
I like a relaxed, casual game with a decent story, plenty of HOSs and a Good Map, and this game was nearly perfect. It was a little heavier on the puzzles than HOs, but they were easy enough that I didn't mind, and the story was really excellent - creepy and hokey in all the right ways, with enough mystery to keep me paying attention to the dialog. The length was good - not too short - and the pacing was good for a casual player who's not going to do the whole game in one sitting. The scenes were lovely and interesting. The journal was actually useful for a change - I wouldn't have kept up with the timetable without it, that's for sure - and the map was everything I wanted (yes, it transports, yes, it tells you where there's something to do).
