I beta tested this game a few months ago and have been waiting for the release. This is a really lovely game with great art. You can tell time and thought went into the development which is much appreciated since games of its caliber have been few and far between in the last year or so. This one is not to be missed for fans of the genre.
Just a warning to others that there is an error in the game in the captain's cabin where if you don't do the actions in the correct order the game will not let you collect the shell needed to complete the HO scene. It's a bug pretty far into the game and it's frustrating to have to start over because of it. This needs to be fixed or the error needs to be noted on the game's page as all of the 1 star reviews due to this bug are hidden on the second page of reviews.
Just a warning to anyone playing: At the end there is apparently an option to hand over the casefile to one of the characters or throw it on the fire. If you choose to throw it on the fire, the game doesn't end, you get stuck back in your apartment at home with your computer flashing that you have a new message. You can't check the message or do anything else other than play the bonus game in the amusement park which doesn't advance the story. I have to say I would have given this game higher marks if it didn't punish you by making the wrong choice. It would be one thing if it just gave a different ending but not giving you an ending at all was just confusing. Luckily there was a walkthrough so I was able to figure out I made the wrong choice but overall a very lame ending to several hours of play.
I beta tested this game last year and was so anxious for it to come out I contacted the developers a couple of months ago to check on the game's progress. The artwork is gorgeous and the storyline and characters are charming. I don't think I've fallen in love with the look and style of a game like this since Drawn.

The game is very fun but as the forums can attest the game is very buggy. I was not able to progress past level 19 because the game stopped counting accrued resources that were necessary to pass the level(collect 50 gold but the game would not count past 20 gold) and re-installing the game/starting over with a new profile did not solve the issue. Obviously this was over an hour into game play so trying out this game may not prevent you from realizing it's broken. Buyer beware for this one.
The creators of Fetch also worked on the beloved Drawn series which is immediately clear from the gorgeous artwork. This is a straight point and click adventure with no HOs, but don't let that deter you from trying out this beauty. The charming storyline of a boy trying to save his dog is just a bonus. Challenging game play interspersed with fun arcade-style gaming.
The residents of Bitterford, Maine have fallen prey to a terrible curse. It’s up to you to unravel the series of mysterious events that led to the town’s downfall and uncover the evil that was responsible.
The cons of the game have been documented by others, but I'll reiterate that despite the tongue in cheek 'stop holding my hand' expert selection, the game actually did way too much hand holding. I also tend to prefer more open-ended games. With this one you were pretty much unlocking a location, doing a set of tasks there, and then repeating that ad infinitum, whereas most popular games these days are way more open-ended. So they took a risk departing from that style of game. It didn't bother me too much because of the novelty of some other parts of the game, but I appear to be in the minority.
On to the good stuff--I really enjoyed the live acting. I know it bothers a lot of others, but there isn't so much of it that it gets tedious..we all know the kinds of games where it seems as if there's a cut scene every time you pick up an object-this game wasn't like that. I also enjoyed the new take on HOs and I appreciate that MCF always pushes the envelope thinking up ways to make searching for hidden objects fresh. The CE stuff was fine, I thought. It took me quite a while to figure out that safe, but I worked that level right after unlocking it, so I got to do the morphing objects as I went along rather than finding them all at the end like others. I actually liked that you had to do something to unlock the morphing objects--it was a nice surprise since I just assumed up to that point that this game wouldn't have any.
4 out of 5 for me. I really enjoyed it, as I always enjoy the MCF games. I will admit that this is among the weaker of the installments--I usually give them 5 stars.
