I wasn't sure I would be bowled over by this game but I got a nice surprise. Not only are the graphics some of the best I have ever seen, but the the story was entriguing and kept me engrossed throughout. You will be in the swampy woods, inside the mountains, or in the floating castles. You will build, concoct, mend and find things; always in lush surroundings. The artists have outdone themselves. You have to fight evil to reclaim your young son, and no doubt you will be fully engrossed. Give it a try.
The Devs gave a nod to all the arts and sciences as well as presenting an almost childlike science-fiction. And there was a courageous message at the end. I felt the graphics fit the story somehow. They invite us into the game and keep us moving and curious. Very little handholding and no technical difficulties. A fun ride. Keep them coming. Keep them unique.
Frankly, I was surprised with the stellar reviews. I bought it after reading them. This game did not flow smoothly. I just went back and forth without enough information or motivation except to find another key to open yet another door or casket. After a while the game became a chore and the fun factor flew out the window. Most of the characters have appeared in other games without much change to them. The organ grinder was a bit of a mess and did not grab me except for his voice---which annoyed me and dragged too low and slow. The graphics were nice and the HOS fun and easy. I know that taste varies in individuals and that my review could just reflect cranky me but I seriously did not see enough originality. You decide.
I don't recommend this game.

The Torment of Whitewall
Only one girl has survived the mysterious attacks on Whitewall, but she's not talking… So they've called you in to end the town's terrible torment!
I found the claymation-type characters intriguing. They moved awkwardly and were very 3D. The game-play was fairly smooth with not too much back and forth. The map showed where active areas were and transported. When through with an active zone, it was dissolved. The HOS and puzzles were just right for me. I cannot help but wonder what happened to the little orphan boy. Otherwise, I found no problems with this game.
I found this murder mystery refreshing with that twist of the occult. Meiville's voice intrigued me as it was a change from the professional British actor voice.
We are brought into the reason for her reluctance to play the role of the paranormal detective and we see her as an "outsider." But at the same time she is driven which creates a good tension in the story.(no details)
I skipped a few puzzles due to weak directions mostly. But overall I liked it even with its very few faults.
Although the visual scenery is limited (not too many changes), it has a purpose. You, as the main character are stuck in a coma and are on the "other side," hanging by a thread.
As you orchestrate your escape from this shabby and ominous place, you help others along the way. Sort of a salvation/survival story.
If you are willing to slow down and enter the game's pace, I feel the reward is worth it. It's true the Italian accents were off, but our Croatian devs were on the mark with their period ambiance. You will be a monk/detective working undercover for the Cardinal and definitely on the right side. The evil that unfolds is all too human and that helps to keep the player involved. Not a shallow game and worth a try.
