I do not usually write reviews, especially of favorite game series / developers. In this case, it must said that Grim Tales has reached it's end...about 6 games back. The games are so short and easy now, no challenge to them as when the series first started. There is practically no interaction with characters, limited background noises, no surprises or twists - it's a really quiet game and I start feeling bored by the 3rd scene. The games are predictable and even with the newly arrived Detectives United and Strange Investigations, there is nothing original. I stopped purchasing the games and don't even play the betas when released. Why bother?
As a long time fan of Elephant games (love the graphics), the games are no longer are worth the CE or SE cost. I did make it through the demo; the whole time wondering how much longer. Disappointing to lose a series favorite but this will be last game I play, even as a Demo, for any of the series.
For new joiners to the series, don't let the "old heads" ruin the game for you; you might find the game an enjoyable and stimulating challenge!
The RoF latest installment has breathed a bit of life back into this series. I don't write the long, detailed reviews as other players - that said, this game is quick and a lot of fun. You are tasked with saving a city where people and poor animals have turned into amber statues by an evil spurned woman (typical). The game sets a fast pace and is very interactive. The voices actually are quite nice for change.
If you really like puzzles, this game is packed with plenty of them - some are puzzles within puzzles, but there are also silhouettes finds, pic puzzles, and a limited number of list finds. So far there is no back and forth action between scenes so that makes it a fairly quick game. I actually happen to enjoy the back and forth, but for those that don't - here's your game.
There are jewel figurines to find, 1 - 2 per scene and are a bit hard to see so that's cool, plus paper fragments and morphs. There's an indicator that lets you know if you have found them (but not for the figurines so remember them!).
As usual, the graphics are beautiful and not heavy with the jewel colors, which I usually don't care for, but Grandma Studios isn't heavy handed with it. Overall, I decided to purchase the CE version because the game play has many scenes to justify the CE cost. A good game for any level of player. Enjoy!
The other reviewers have said plenty so I will just add that the visuals and graphics are incredible. This game had me jumping back a couple of times in my seat and that was just the demo. I love EG games so I always purchase the CEs "sight unseen" b/c I know it will be great fun and I was not disappointed. I love the interactive puzzles, scenes...there is so much to do room by room that I feel like get my $$ worth. I was really hoping after last year's game there would be a sequel and happy to see it's even better than the last!
I really enjoyed this game and a fan of the series, so I always just purchase the CE outright, though there were a few games where I regretted that decision. Overall, this was a really good game with the usual beautiful graphics and visuals. Dad tags along but is mostly quiet throughout the game. It was a pretty long game with a lot to do. There are 18 main HOP scenes with a good number of mini-HOP/scenes. In the bonus game, there are 9 HOPs with a fair number of mini games/scenes. I always enjoy the variety of morphs and collectibles, which keeps me engaged enough to remember to find them!
The only con was that I felt the storyline was a little 'soft' for the series, without the usual drama, tension, or suspense, or blood, but still a good game.
Finally Mad Head Games improved the visuals and graphics within the Maze series. They lost the grainy quality that plagued recent games in the series, so this one, is finally, a must buy for me. That said, the game is puzzle heavy and the HOS play is quick.
I only played the demo but now I am curious as to how the poor heroine ended up as an experimental subject. I also like the choice options which if you choose wrong, you end seriously hurt or dead (lol), so let's try that again!
I really like Elephant Games - they develop many of my favorites and rarely if ever use gimmicks. However, my issue is that over the past couple of years the game play has become shorter and shorter. While there are 5 chapters in the game, Chapter 2 only had 2 scenes of play! Not worth the CE price but definitely should purchase but as a SE. As always, beautiful visuals and color, exciting game play, fast paced, and entertaining.
Where do I start? There were so many omg, jaw dropping moments in the game that sometimes I laughed at (or was incredibly shocked) how bizarre, crazy, murderous, psychotic, and devious the villain was...and I loved every moment of it. This was so worth buying the CE! It's nice and long with plenty of scenes to keep you engaged. Those darn morphing puzzle pieces were hard to find sometimes which I also enjoyed. To the developers - you blew me away and I applaud you!! I'll leave it to other reviewers to add spoilers, but if you haven't read the other reviews, you will not be disappointed with this game. Even, when I stopped playing in an attempt to make it last, I would walk away like...dang! Really?! Wow, yep, that really happened! LOL. I'm in Chapter 6 and still trying (and quite worried) to figure out what happened to the kids? Way better than the Hallowed Halls - Lakeview Lane (while also very long, it had a tendency to drag and took me a really long time to finish).
Beautiful graphics (quite nice quality), appropriate eerie music, intriguing and often challenging puzzles, which I admit, some i had to skip.
This game is a spooky blast to play! Ten minutes into the demo I stopped and purchased the CE version (that has never happened so that should tell you a lot right there)! This game was so much fun to play - I kept jumping back in my seat and laughing that I was spooked / surprised. Right off the pace starts the action without waiting for the buildup. Predictable storyline but you will not really care because this is really a fun game to play. Very interactive, with new and fun games and HOPs. you move quickly from room to room and there is a bit of tension as you wonder what could be around the corner!
As always, the graphics are superb and the flow moved quite well. I was actually disappointed when I finished the game because I wanted more, more, and more!
This a must buy! You will not be disappointed. Happy Halloween :-)
I really like, for the most part, the PuppetShow series but this game was weird. As always, love the graphics and music; however, the story fell flat and as one reviewer noted - it's always the same story! Same everything! So very boring. Now I played the demo and could not make it all the way through - too many 'jerky' scenes that left you confused for a couple of seconds till you realized, oh, it cut away to a action sequence or something bad was happening. Even playing the match 3 game would abruptly end without any clear reason why.
Advice to developers: change motives, change the time of day (variation is ok, really it is), be creative with fixing, using, locating objects - switch it up, add more challenges to HOPs, add morphs (always a nice touch), include panoramic scenes, change the villains costumes! Change - be creative!
Would hate to see this series go away because it has been fun.
I love this game series but found this game particularly lacking in the thrills and chills and I played the entire game plus the bonus game. Although the main story has 'cut-away' scenes where you locate objects to help you move to the next step, in all there were only 10 'true' locations in the game. Quite short for the money. The bonus game only partially made up for this with 11 locations - still...
It's the same ole story of the vengeful ghost wrecking havoc with a human behind it all which make the motivations easy to spot - therefore lacking an element of mystery. As always the graphics are superb and the music pretty good. The puzzles were a bit of challenge. Overall a fun game for a novice but boring for more experienced players and those familiar with the series.
