I was prepared to accept this game being short, given the reviews I read, but what I didn't expect was that the next episode hasn't been released yet. I've been buying games from BF for nine years and this is the first time I've come across a game that's not complete in itself. This one ends with a kind of 'To be continued' message, but it doesn't actually continue because there's no next episode. Talk about being left high and dry. It's such a pity because I really enjoyed the game play. However, I feel so cheated now I'm not sure I'll buy the next episode if/when it's released. That's why I'm only giving it 2 stars.
I don't recommend this game.

This game really appealed to me because it's not a run-of-the-mill spooky adventure game.
First, it has wonderful quirky steampunk graphics reminiscent of Machinarium - one of my all-time favourite games.
Second, it challenges you by not holding your hand too much, thus encouraging you to work things out for yourself. The hint button will tell you where to go next, but no more than that, and there's no map either - or sparkles.
Sometimes it's a little hard to figure out what to do next because the solution to a problem is ingenious and requires a bit of lateral thinking. One aspect I really like is that you can put tools and equipment to unusual uses, like using a crowbar to prop up a switch. I've often found it frustrating in other games when you can only use tools for one purpose, which isn't what you'd do in real life.
Third, it has a logical and engaging (if simple) story line.
My only (slight) gripe would be that some of the tasks/puzzles are a little too easy.
I'm a big fan of PlayRix for their excellent Royal Envoy time-management games. I'm pleased to see they can bring that same quality to the Adventure genre, and I hope they make more games like this.
All in all this is an unusual and engaging game. I'd thoroughly recommend it.
Finding the solutions to its challenging, tricky, non-linear puzzles is truly satisfying because you have to use your head. I've got stuck a few times and had to resort to the walkthrough, but it's like doing cryptic crossword puzzles - once you become used to the way the compiler's mind works, it gets easier. There are very few hints, so you really do have to exercise your mind.
The graphics are absolutely brilliant, and there's a low-key educational aspect to the game (Da Vinci pictures and inventions and a little bit about the history).
This game is also great value for money. I'm less than half way through it, and I bought it more than a week ago. It's deep, it's challenging, and it's stimulating.
This was my first Nancy Drew game, and I probably should have started with a less challenging one as it was quite hard to get into the gameplay at first. Once I got the hang of it, though, I derived a lot of satisfaction from solving the challenging puzzles, many of which forced me to think laterally and really exercise my brain.
The artwork is superb, the characters and dialogue are well-drawn, too, and the actors' voices were excellent.
I also loved the way the game was peppered with interesting factoids about Egyptology.
I'm hooked now; can't wait to unravel another Nancy Drew mystery.
I usually get stressed out by these sorts of games because everything seems to be urgent and you end up running around as if you're being whipped, which is not my idea of fun. This game's different, though. Yes, there are some time-sensitive tasks, and there are always things to do and you have to prioritise, but you don't have to panic about getting everything done in double-quick time.
Overall, this is a truly excellent game. The graphics are lovely, the storyline is great, the tasks are challenging and fulfilling, and it's got a satisfying ending.
I particularly liked the way the characters come with work preferences and dislikes, which affect their morale. It added another dimension to the allocation of tasks. And I liked that they could undergo training to make them more efficient.
My other favourites were the little side-games blasting pirates out of the water. That was a lot of fun.
Be warned, though, the game is so engrossing you won't notice the time passing. You could be up all night building this little paradise.
Return once more to the haunted grounds of Ravenhearst Manor to uncover new details about this poignant saga. What you find could very well be the final chapter of this riveting story-if you escape.
Unlike a lot of other reviewers I really enjoyed the challenge of this game. The plot was intriguing and the storyline truly gave me the creeps at times.
I had to resort to the walkthrough sometimes to know what to do next, but I'm not sure if this was a good or a bad thing. Because there were no hints and it was a chore to go look at the walkthrough I had to work harder at figuring it out for myself - hitting the hint button would've been to easy. That said, I think some of the puzzles could have come with instructions, though - it was sometimes difficult to see what it was you were supposed to do, especially with the out-of-the-ordinary type of puzzle. All in all I found this game very satisfying to play and emotionally quite moving/disturbing. I thought the acting was excellent and the weird sets and game-play ultra-imaginative. It was unusual, challenging, and a refreshing change from the often predictable HO/adventure games. I mean, this was a first for me, cyber-squeezing pimples!
