This is more of a "resource management" game than time. Quite often you do not have enough of what you need. If you got access to a source that keeps on throwing new ones you got nothing to worry about. But first you got to get to it (or build it) and until you do you have to be careful where you go first, whata obstacles you destroy and what you upgrade.
Do not upgrade a source that you have plenty of. Upgrade the source that you have less if you do.
Do not upgrade the tent to 3 unless you got something that needs 3 people.
Do not get rid of obstacles unless you need to. If you are not told "get rid of those obstacles" or it is the only way to reach where you want to go, let it be. For example, if you have to choose between two obstacles to get to the same point, get rid of the cheaper and do not worry about the big one (there are plenty of swamps that you do not NEED to pave over)
Before you upgrade make the calculation. How much do you need to reach your goal, and how much does it cost you to upgrade? Go for the cheaper one.
If you are constrained by one resource, do not spend it on getting rid of obstacles unless you gain more resources that you spend.
With this in mind you will find a challenging game.
This game lacks a lot of bells and whistles of newer games, but it is a solid story that keeps the suspense all through it. Sometimes it stumps you until you think more about it. Sometimes you have to look around to see one more character who will give you a clue or give you what you need.
The inventory has identifialbe elements that you uses logically. No strange shapes that must fit certain empty slots but tools and keys and equipment.
This is a tricky game. Some resources are limited and if you upgrade something you 'll fiind that you are short of other resources. Not all obstacles have to be paved over. When you pave over something you have to determine how much it will cost you vs. what you can gain. You have to determine what to open next. If you choose wrong you will be stuck!
Even with no timer, you can sweat for the solution.
My criterion about adventure games is: how good is the story? How original?
This game is tops. the story is good and keeps up the suspense. You like the main character and you want to see how it ends.
The gameplay is not too easy and not too frustrating. Some of the HOS are a bit murky (some of the objects have bizarre names), but there are not that many and not too intrusive.
As I said before, if the story is good, the game is good. After so many games where HOGs are a boring chore it is good to be reminded why you enjoyed them once.
It is a bit retro which is good, because retro means when games were inventive not cookie cutter adventures.
This is more of a strategy game than time management. You can run it without the timer and it will stump you again and again. There is always a resource that you got to manage carefully and upgrading anything can be dangerous as it will consume a resource you cannot replentish. Then, check what the requiremetns are. You will find that you are spending resources to solve something taht is not required. One example, in one episode all you have to do is harvest food. Trying to build anything else or clearing the road, or any other chore will do nothing for you except eat away the food that you are supposed to be collecting. Some episodes I had to do four five times until I found out how to get enough resources to get rid of the last obstacles
Your librarian friend wants your help as a journalist – he’s found an ancient book that is still unfinished. Can you save the world in the book before their story ends?
If you are going to make a lot of HOGS in your game:
1) Do not make your objects so tiny that gamers need to squint to see them. 2) If you insist in having a lot of tiny objects make hints come after 5 seconds not make gamers wait forever. 3) And do not make the hints so difuse that after being used the object is not clear and leads to a lot of clicking and penalties.
I tried playing it. I give up. My eyes hurt. This is no fun. This is a painful experience.
I am going to skip all Ravensheart puzzles from now on. They may be classic. They are also a pain.
