Other reviewers have laid out the plot, so I'll skip right to the important stuff. This is an entertainingly dark, brooding game with tons of unique puzzles, a fantastic, coherent storyline and a suitably creepy and menacing protagonist. Graphics are so visually appealing, voice overs deliciously sinister and music is nicely subdued. Story takes place in an extensive old mansion and grounds that seem to go on forever. There is a non-interactive map, meaning you can't jump from one room to another, but I was rather glad that you had to traverse the entire house to move about. The map does tell you when there is an item of interest but doesn't give anything away. Puzzles are my main interest in games of this sort and there are a lot of them here. They range from one or two ridiculously simplistic to tearing my hair out hard (which I live for) and playing in advanced mode gave me no SKIP button. The puzzles are unique and extremely entertaining. I highly recommend this game for all of you out there who still like to think for yourselves.
Thank you MAD HEAD, for developing a game where I'm not led around by my nose like a five year old! How refreshing to find a game that has a coherent (albeit "out there") storyline, voice actors who can actually ACT, (not one of them said anything STUPID like, "gee, I might need a screwdriver here") and puzzles that aren't insulting to an adults intelligence. Puzzles are the only reason I buy these games and while these aren't difficult, they are fresh and unique, fun and challenging. My only negative comment is that it could have been longer, but I'm willing to sacrifice length for quality. I'm stunned at the poor reviews as I heartily recommend this game to anyone who wants to do their own thinking.
Elephant games are among my very favorite. They're consistently high quality; great graphics, pleasant music, exciting story lines.
Grim Tales: The Final Suspect doesn't fall short. Intriguing story, interesting and diverse HO scenes (and not too many), great characters. Lots of fun puzzles, although I have to say they could be more challenging.
I especially liked the way the story was divided into sections, like little mini adventures.
Brilliant! Challenging! Innovative!! Engaging! (And lots of other superlatives!) This is, quite simply, THE most amazing game EVER. I'm constantly searching for something intelligent, challenging and interesting and am regularly disappointed by fairies/elves, monsters/demons, inept detectives and relatives searching for lost loved ones.
Return To Mysterious Island is so refreshingly different. I loved having to find and construct tools, make medicines, combine fire-building materials, etc. It really makes you feel like you're on a deserted island and scrabbling for survival.
The graphics are stunning, the voice-over acting is very believable and even the music was pertinent and enjoyable. The point and click action and 360 degree view were wonderful.
I've played quite a few of the Nancy Drew games and loved each one, but they just don't compare to this one. Judging by the comments in many of the reviews, Big Fish would do well to bring a lot more of this type of game to their site.
This is a stunningly beautiful game. Artwork is full and rich and minutely detailed. Lovely color palette. Great storyline, interesting characters; kings and fairies, trolls and elves. (Who doesn't love having their own griffin to ride all over the kingdom?) Decent voiceovers. Unintrusive music. I played off and on for several days so it seemed like a long game to me.
I don't often buy CE's, but I got a deal and glad I did. The bonus material on this one was entertaining and fun, though not as long as I'd have liked.
All that being said, I felt that the HOS's were too easy as were the mini games. I'm always looking for a higher level of challenge and although the story was involved and challenging, puzzles were not.
Transitions between screens was sluggish but not a big deal. I played on advanced so didn't use the hint button much. There is a baby griffin to help you get items that are out of reach, a terrific map and a running diary.
You've returned from school to visit your father at his famous Jazz Pepper Club during Mardi Gras, but everyone is hypnotized. Have they heard the wrong note?
A very nifty storyline combined with gorgeous, sultry jazz, unique interactive HOS and lots of easy but fun mini games. Beautifully drawn scenes with great voice overs. Felt like I was really in New Orleans.
I played on advanced level so hint button was disabled, but there was a good map and the continuity of the game was such that hints and sparkles weren't really necessary.
For all you adults out there who are looking for an intelligent, well thought out game, here it is. Finally. This developer is not afraid to pull out the stops when it comes to piling on one scary, unnerving screen after another. The story draws you in immediately and flows like a tsunami to the very satisfying conclusion.
Technically, this is a beautiful game. Gorgeously drawn, incredibly detailed, fantastic continuity throughout the entire game. Great voice overs; chilling, creepy, unsettling.
HOS's are unique and challenging. Mini puzzles hardly seem such as they are such an integral part of the story. I especially enjoyed the fact that I was able to collect dozens of items long before they were needed and actually had to THINK about what to do with what item.
Am going to be waiting very impatiently for the sequel to this wonderful game and hoping there are more like it soon.
At long last, something different! This is a smart, fun, challenging little game. Easy to learn, addictive and really makes you think. I would like for it to have had harder Bonus Games and many more levels as I finished it way too quickly, but playing again from the start is fine too. Loved it!!
Eerie music fills the air in Vienna, where shadows terrorize people in the streets. Two musical prodigies have gone missing. Can you save them without striking a single false note?
Having thoroughly enjoyed the first two games of this series, I bought this without playing the demo. Mistake number one. I rarely buy Collector's Editions of any game, but thought I'd splurge on this one when BFG was having a twofer sale. Mistake number two.
I don't normally leave reviews for games I have to give a bad rating to, but I just couldn't let this one go, as I was so irritated with it, I couldn't wait for the end. This game has got a ridiculous plot line, annoying "shadow people" in every scene, childish and inane puzzles and four solid hours of glitches and freezing up.
That being said, I must admit that I did enjoy the bonus game (glitch free), a decent puzzle or two and very much liked the VO at the beginning of the game. Very well acted with a beautiful sonorous tone. Overall, I would only recommend this game to the very newest beginners. Not a very good value for the money.
This was a completely unexpected delight. Always looking for something a bit different and this is it. Unusual story, great visuals, fun puzzles. I really appreciated that I wasn't treated like a 6 year old being guided by the hand every step of the way. This game actually lets you search for what you need and lets you figure out how to put it all together. I loved the HOS, they were beautifully drawn, objects were well blended and they were sometimes very challenging. I'll be waiting anxiously for the next installment of this game!
