I beta tested this game quite a while ago. The interval between the beta and the game release is much longer than usual. I figure the game either had too may bugs that needed patching or some other factor such as a story line improvement was called for.
At any rate this edition of Dark Dimensions is thankfully available and given how many second and third rate games have been foisted upon us recently, Vengeful Beauty is a definite sight for sore eyes.
The story line is OK since we have had many others in its ilk.
Among factors seen many times we have: a park setting, alien and dangerous plants, friends of the game main character kidnapped. The interesting aspect of this story is we are not given even a clue as to who the villain is. Is it the aforementioned vengeful beauty? If so, who is she and why is she so bent on destruction? This alone compels me to look further into the game.
The look of the game is better than average as it is nicely drawn. A minor drawback is the lack of lip movement when characters speak. Sometimes the main character asks a question and I wish that character were also given a voice. It bugs me when I only see a written question.
Game Play: In this game what needs completion via HO segments and puzzles is extremely well done. There are quite a few challenges in both areas. One HO that is cool requires finding 5 flowers and 5 ravens, some of which are cleverly concealed and then using them to provide a word list
and then locating various items which need placement on the game screen. Some of the puzzles ( at least in the demo )
are tricky although they are of varieties seen in lots of games.
For the collectible lovers there are green disks to find yet I elected to not seek them out. If there are any other collections and/or morphs, I found none. For me collectibles are extraneous to the game in most cases.
2017 hasn't been a banner year thus far so to be awarded a superior game at any point is not to be taken lightly. While I have not been a fan of lots of other chapters in the Dark Dimension saga, this one is a top-notch rendition.
I recommend this game!

Double Clues is hopelessly inept. We are tasked to solve the murder or is it a suicide of a wealthy industrialist. How pray tell do we solve? What else, play solitaire. We can either match cards, play one up or down sequences, or match cards whose values equal 14. There are gold cards to amass, wild cards to buy and use, etc. The idea is to eventually gather clue cards and warrant cards in order to reach a conclusion concerning the mystery.
The game bored me after about 15 minutes of this drivel.
Solitaire games are generally not my cup of tea although the Zombie Solitaire put out a few weeks ago is a fun game.
This one is in a word> TERRIBLE!!

There has been a dearth of good games thus far in 2017 although there are a couple of stunners coming along based on betas I have participated in. This edition of Labyrinths of the World has relatively nothing to do with Devil's Tower except to use it as a vehicle to transport the player to another planet ( Fractal - S ) which has been nearly obliterated by the evil Sanderion. This lizard like humanoid is bent on destroying planet Earth by draining our home and its citizens of its energies. We have a novice Seeker who with the assistance of Takh Taash , a more powerful Seeker from Fractal - S will I imagine somehow defeat Sanderion and save us all. We also have a talking horse, Herring, who sounds like an adolescent girl.
The thing is, I just don't care. While I enjoy some games requiring teleportation to another realm in order to defeat the bad guys and save humanity, in this jumbled mess all I really want to do , which I have done, is quit and delete. I already feel better having done so.
As to game play Devil's Tower is replete with every clichéd task found in way too many games. Examples are finding keys, rust removal oil cans, herbicides, bug gathering jars, and obtaining a vessel to fill it with water are but a few. I cannot wait for one enterprising developer to entertain us with new challenges. The only part of the game I found redeeming during the demo were a couple of puzzles that required some thought.
As has become evident in lots of game series, Labyrinths either should be overhauled or moth balled since this is a paltry effort.
Be on the lookout for a new game based on Norse legend and the latest Vermillion Watch which will hopefully be available soon. Until then I will save money and replay games in my over stuffed toy box.
I don't recommend this game.

The solitaire games requiring striking one card higher or lower over and over get boring for me really fast, even with the addition of helpers, such as bombs, keys, etc. The reason I don't like them has much to do with the total lack of inspiration on behalf of the game maker.
In Zombie Solitaire the developer adds a large degree of fun during the game. I won't go into how the game progresses as other reviewers have done so adequately. I will say the game offers challenges and requires intelligent use of assist cards to keep the game moving. The occasional employment of very simple HO sections and a Match 3 thrown in every now and them breaks up what could otherwise be monotonous.
While I would not spend any $$$ for such a game, using a free game code fit the bill here.
I recommend this game!

Such a surprise and a pleasant one indeed to have a new MCF game 9 months prior to when we usually get a new offering. Welcome back Alison Sterling who was in a group years ago to decipher goings on at Dire Grove.
This time she is in Dreadmond, somewhere in the U.K. to see her former classmate Maggie Sharp since some strange events are bedeviling the town. Alison is rescued by the detective ( that's us ) and upon reuniting with Maggie finds Maggie to be an old woman. Although Alison is unaware of why her friend has aged so incredibly, the player knows from the initial cut scene that a British soldier wounded in the World War I Battle of Somme is miraculously revived by a weird woman-like entity after he plucks a feather from her clothing.
We also meet a Scotsman who claims to have devised an apparatus which will end the mysterious events plaguing Dreadmond. Eventually even Alison is suddenly aged by the Black Veil so now it's up to the detective to solve the mystery.
Most of the MCF games have been remarkable successes with a couple of clunkers to deal with. The Black Veil appears to be one of the excellent installments based merely on the demo portion. Other than the fantastic drawing of this game, it is the terrific use of imaginative HO segments and the inclusion of some difficult puzzles that make this MCF a worthy successor to the series.
The player needs a sharp mind to complete some of the puzzles as they are tough nuts to crack. One is of the Rube Goldberg variety introduced way back in Madame Fate. Fortunately for the player, individual sections of this poser can be skipped if proving to be too hard. I managed to slog through with lots of trial and error before finishing and obtaining a useful item to continue the quest.
We also have a fabulous HO segment in the Dreadmond estate building requiring the opening of 3 sections of a scene and locating and inserting objects correctly in order to acquire yet another item.
There are jigsaw puzzle pieces to collect and if there are morphs I saw none in the demo.
This game is clearly not for beginners and for those who have not played earlier MCF don't worry as Black Veil looks to stand alone quite well. Finding a new MCF at this time of year is a pleasant surprise and I can dare say that most of us HOPA aficionados shall certainly jump straight away into the deep end of the pool. This game should be a brilliant success.
I recommend this game!

I have always enjoyed these grid games and these put out by Match Gems are unquestionably the finest available. The best aspect of edition 20 is a whole lot less hand holding. I have longed for tougher puzzles wherein much more 1,2,3 and 4 groupings both horizontally and vertically are seen. In fact it is not until the 5th set that a 20 number makes an appearance. I never use hints in these games and having completed 5 sets so far, there have been more than the usual amount of do-overs.
Another plus in the 20th edition is a change of background music and this rendition is a much needed improvement.
Castle of Puzzles reaffirms FM's stay as the best of its kind.
I recommend this game!

I lasted about 1/2 hour into the demo and just couldn't take anymore of this drivel. I have no problem with games that delve into paranormal activities but this effort is a total mess.
Something strange is occurring in Amsterdam as the story opens. Young women are being murdered and there is only one person ( the player ) who can decipher what is going on since it is apparent that otherworldly events are happening simultaneously with the crimes.
The player arrives in Amsterdam and meets up with a local detective who just happens to speak perfect American English. This is in itself the first sign that all will not be well with Unseen Fears. The player is then tasked with obtaining clues about the latest victim and in a rather jumbled mess of activity amasses items which tie certain facts about obvious serial murders.
Then the player is accosted by a bloody looking spectral woman and she must be fought off. Then we get to a houseboat and learn from some dude who sort of looks like the Wolfman that he and the spectre are shapeshifters who mean no harm. This did it for me. I had to leave. Some reviewers who normally allow 5 stars to most games have done so here. While everyone is entitles to his/her opinion I cannot fathom a superb rating for this disaster.
Yesterday I beta tested an Eipix effort that IMO is one of the best games ever, so perhaps Unseen Fears just pales by comparison. Judge for yourself, for me it is a definite no sale.
I don't recommend this game.

Had this game made its appearance 7-8 years ago when HOPA was in its infancy I would have bought it immediately and been happy to do so. Unfortunately and due primarily to the greater degree of sophistication we generally see today, Eventide 2 naturally falls short in comparison.
My primary fault with Sorcerer's Mirror is the amateurish drawing and movements by characters particularly during cut scenes. The way things look in this game is far too primitive and leaves me unable to look past this down side so that I could be pleased with other aspects of the game.
There are things to like here. I enjoy the usage of both traditional word lists and fractured objects while seeking items for use elsewhere. What I don't like are having every cliched task seen way too often in games. Examples are oiling rusted things, finding a screwdriver for obvious use, locating a vessel and then filling it with water for yet another task, etc. Worst is the too simplistic objective of finding but 2 items in 3 or 4 scenes and placing them within a screen shot to further the story. It's childish play and I am personally way beyond that.
Artifax Mundi is listed as the producer. Either this is a game it created years ago and had it mothballed or AM is a go-between with a less skillful developer and vendors such as BFG.
I can endorse this game for beginners to the genre. For veteran HOGgers I cannot since the game has not much meat on its bones.
I don't recommend this game.

For me no one yet has matched the FM series in making stellar nonograms. The reason is that the FMs final product in each grid really looks like what it is supposed to be. The multiple colors are also a real plus.
What I enjoyed about these offerings of Gizmo: Interstellar Voyage is the addition of a voice over during game play, although the same phrases repeated over and over does get somewhat monotonous as the game progresses. There are multiple colors here as well but they all seem to blend into each other unless there is some way of isolating each color such as is the case with FMs. If this is the case I just did not notice it and I must admit I skipped the tutorial given I felt it unnecessary due to knowledge of how to play these games.
Another aspect that works is the addition of a jigsaw puzzle
which occurred halfway into the initial group of 20 grids.
The second section started with the jigsaw which I skipped.
The first group were limited to 10 vertical boxes and 15 horizontal boxes. The second group added 20 on the horizontal. I finished the demo.
The completed grids all had a sort of out of space theme yet this can not be discerned by just looking at the finished product. I may get this game with a free game code if one is about to expire and I cannot find anything else that suits my fancy. For players addicted to nonograms Gizmo should be your cup of tea.
I recommend this game!

I am no great fan of the bard Shakespeare and any of his comedies, tragedies and sonnets but the developer of this awful story should be ashamed to dishonor what is rightfully one of the outstanding stories of all time. The story gets messed up in the initial cut scene with Juliet's mother dying during childbirth. What rubbish ! A bit later on Tybalt is now a cat??? I realize that games based on well known fiction need to be tweaked a bit but what goes on here is nothing short of ridiculous.
The primary theme of the story here is one seen too often in games. Two men vie for the same woman, in this case it's Alberta ( Juliet's mother ) who is sought after by suitors. The loser becomes so villainous in defeat that he must then ruin the relationship between Romeo and Juliet a couple decades later. After about 45 minutes into the demo I had had enough of this drivel and quit.
As to game play itself, we are forced with cliche after cliche in advancement of the quest. Rusty tools, locked doors, specific shape items to open boxes, etc. Why at one point we must use yet another crowbar to pry a loose board to find a horse bridle. I don't know about you but that's where I secrete all of my bridles !!
The best aspect of this Dark Romance are the HO segments as they are beautifully drawn. Some of the puzzles require some thought. Other than that and due mostly to the abyssmal story the game falls SPLAT !
I wonder which if any Shakespearian play the developer shall elect to dishonor ? Game players, please save your money and put this lame effort where it belongs, in your computer trash bin.
I don't recommend this game.
