It is no exaggeration to say that in my opinion, Dire grove is by far and away the best game of the mystery case files series. Big fish games have tried new things with the 13th skull, and even gone as far as increasing the difficulty and changing the general mode of play with escape to Ravenhearst, but Dire grove was perfect and should really have been emulated in their future games.
From the very beginning, you know the game is well made. The video sequences (1 at the beginning and various as you progress) are very well made and really give you a feel of being in the action, reliving the experience. Dire grove was the only game to acheive this and it was one of it's most redeeming features.
The difficulty level is intermediate. While the level of interactivity is challenging, it seems as if it is not overly so, thus the game does not seem to be annoying. Becuase of this, the game becomes more enjoyable the further you get into it, the story really helping to suck you in to experience the ending.
Overall you couldn't ask for much more from a hidden object game, a joy to play.
I recommend this game!

Return once more to the haunted grounds of Ravenhearst Manor to uncover new details about this poignant saga. What you find could very well be the final chapter of this riveting story-if you escape.

After reading the reviews on this game i wasn't sure about purchasing. I never download the trials and so was a little apprehensive but there was no need; Escape from Ravenhearst was an entertaining, challenging game that was just right.
The level of challenge is high and this isn't the kind of game that gives you much of a hint, but that was ok for me as i like a challenge and this game provides it more than any other in the series.
As for the morphing objects, i didn't mind them really. I'm not exactly in favour of seeing them in every game from now on, but it was a change and was just as challenging as the hidden objects so i had no problems with them.
Very impressive stuff, the second best game of the mystery case files series. (Dire grove was simply awesome)
I recommend this game!

Now that i've spent a few months playing the big fish game catalogue, it seems right to review my experiences.
This was the first game i bought from the big fish catalogue and i thorougly enjoyed it. I thought that the themes to the rooms were a nice touch and the mini-games were a change to the rest of the game format. However, being the first game i played, experience does play a part in my review.
Firstly, having played around ten of the other, newer big fish games, this one does seem outdated, Not just in graphical quality but also in content. The mini-games, at first seeming a welcome change, are now perceived as repetitive and a move away from the action. The hidden objects also repeat themselves; something that i, having first played the game, thought was ok. But now i see this was not the case and the increased graphical quality and storylines of the newer big fish games makes haunted hotel only one for the beginners.
However, if you are new to the big fish games, this title is excellent, as it floats you into the genre and prepares you for the newer, most structured games ahead. For this reason i cannot give any less than four stars, plus ia m still a little nostalgic ;)
I recommend this game!
