I loved the other Ravenhearst games and read the disappointing reviews, but decided to get this game anyway with my free game credit. I had no problem with the subject matter, although I can see how it could be quite confronting for some more sensitive souls, like the maternity ward scene and child abuse etc. There is a big, red warning message about that, so anyone who downloads this game should not be surprised if things get a little disturbing at times.
However the main problem I have with this game is that it's too darn hard! The hint system only works for the hidden object/morphing object scenes, but otherwise, if you're stuck, you have to refer to the walkthrough. I found I was doing that every five minutes, which takes the fun out of it. Puzzles and mini-games have no instructions, although they are skippable, which is a plus. The journal doesn't record things like numbers etc. you find around the place, so my advice is, keep a piece of paper handy and write down everything you find. And the numbers are random, so the walkthrough won't help much with that. It's easier just to write everything down.
Some items have obscure uses. For example, at the beginning of the game you find a can opener, which you have to use to move some rocks... Really? You can't move them with your hand, but you can move them with a can opener? Ok, whatever...
Mere mortals would also have trouble working out the connection between numbers you find and where to use them. For example the height written on the toe tags of the 'corpses' in the morgue, have to be used in connection with the eyechart #height equals row of letters and number of tag equals the letter of that row#. With that you get the code to enter at the entrance to the maternity ward. Without the walkthrough, I would be still stuck in the hospital lobby with no clue how to get that code.
As disturbing as some of the scenes are, all characters are actually automatons, except for adult Charles who communicates with you through TV monitors.
I haven't finished the game yet, but I think it will take a while due to the fact that I have to keep leaving the game to go to the walkthrough. I want to finish it, so I'll keep at it, but my four big suggestions to the developers - We all love a challenge, but it's still gotta be possible for mere mortals to do, give instructions for the mini games, make a hint system that tells you where to go or what to do next and make a journal that records the important stuff so you don't have to bother with bits of paper.
I recommend this game only to hardcore players
I recommend this game!

First of all let me say, the game itself is excellent and gets five stars for that. I bought it after buying Syberia II. I mistakenly thought that Syberia part 1 was the first game, but after I purchased it and played it and read the forums to see what happened to the rest of the game, I found out that this game was re-released in 3 seperate parts. So the original Syberia is now Syberia part 1, part 2 (still to be released) and part 3 (still to be released). I'm very disappointed that this wasn't explained properly on the purchase page. It actually said 'Note Syberia and Syberia part 1 are the same game', it didn't say that it was only part one of three parts of the same game. The developers have decided to break the game into more managable pieces to make it playable on iPads etc. I think they should have kept the entire game for purchase for PC users. I now have to pay for parts 2 and 3 if I want to actually finish this awesome game and I feel cheated, as you can buy this game whole on other sites for just one low price and you used to be able to buy the whole game on Bigfish as well for only one price. I think Bigfish should offer parts 2 and 3 at a heavily discounted price to players who have already purchased part 1. From reading the forums, there are a lot of unhappy customers out there over this issue.
I don't recommend this game.

I love the concept ot the game. You have a large map to explore with many surprises on the way. The characters are all a little crazy. You never quite know what you'll come across next. Although I don't care for the overall theme of potty humour (never been a fan#, I'm still enjoying the collecting of things and helping out the many citizens. Most of them will pay you for your efforts and you need the money to buy stuff to complete other tasks.
Good:
-excellent map
-flags you can place on the map to help you find your way #you'll need it#
-unlimited inventory
-journal to keep track of your tasks
-highly addictive, once you start it's hard to stop
-very long gameplay, excellent value for money
-two game modes, extreme and casual #extreme is more fun if you like to figure things out for yourself and want longer play time#
so-so:
-some spelling errors / some items not named correctly
-you can only play one game at a time #two people can't have their own player account#
-the underground train system #I've never used it because it's much more fun running around the streets and finding little surprises here and there#
-way too much potty humour and other gross stuff
-character's speech is garbled, but the dialog is written as well
bad:
-that annoying cop who keeps popping up every now and then #he serves no purpose and while he makes his silly comments you can't do anything at all#
hints:
-keep a record of who lives where, because you'll never remember them all and the map doesn't tell you
-some things you find will leave you covered in 'stuff' and nobody will talk to you or give you things, so you need to find a water source to clean up, there are several throughout the town #just click on it and you're all washed up#
-keep a look out for empty bottles and cigarette packs on the way as you can sell these #I won't tell you where#
-some items you can find, some are given to you for completion of a task or as exchange for another item, but most you have to buy from various shops #buy everything you can afford as you will inevitably need it)
-read notices on walls, look in rubbish bins, cracks in the road etc.
-explore EVERYWHERE
Note to Bigfish - I found it ironic that I had to edit my submission because it contained 'inappropriate language', when I was only quoting words used in the game.
I recommend this game!

I love all the Midnight Mystery games and this is no exception. I love collecting the clovers just for the fun of it. The graphics are great, the story engaging. I love the fact that you can combine two inventory items to make a whole thing, for example two halves of a map or two parts of a tool.
My only complaint I have with this game, like with all the others in this series, is the way the hint system works. The raven doesn't actually tell you what to do next if you get stuck. Instead you need to place one of your inventory items on the raven and he'll tell you where to use it. Not always very helpful, especially if you have to use it at a location you haven't been to yet. Because of this, I've had to resort to the walk through a couple of times, which I don't like to do.
The puzzles are not too hard, which is just as well, because there are next to no instructions on what to do.
There are no penalties for overclicking either, which is good.
Some items in HO scenes are hidden, so you have to keep a close eye on your cursor to watch it change when there is a box or drawer to open etc.
Because of the limited hint system, this is a fairly long game and suited to people who like to work things out for themselves.

If you loved Dire Grove, you'll love this game. It's long, there is plenty to do, the graphics are beautiful. Some puzzles are super easy, others are more challenging. The only downside is that there is no map. I like games that have a map that show you which areas are complete and which areas still need attention. This game doesn't have that, so a lot of time is spent running back and forth trying to find where you have to use items. Like others have said before, some items have rather obscure uses, but thankfully the hint system is excellent. It tells you exactly what you need to do next.
I can't wait to try the other Mytery Trackers games.

I loved the first one and I loved this one too. Visuals are great, hidden objects are easy enough to find, some need some kind of interaction to be reveales, e.g. open a box, move a curtain etc. or they need to be assembled. I love the map. You can click on the location you want and you're there. No endless running back and forth. The areas which need attention are green, so you always know where to look if you get stuck. I didn't need a walkthrough, only the hint button a couple of times. The puzzles are a bit on the easy side, so I only gave it a fair rating for the level of challenge. I didn't need to skip any, which is unusual for me. The overall length of the game is pretty good and the progression is pretty straighforward. I thought it was good value for a half price special.
I recommend this game!

I bought Totem Treasure 2 and other slot games first. This game is okay, but the reels spin way too fast. There seems to be only the ultrafast mode and nothing else. I tried changing it in the option menu, but the reels spin at the same speed no matter what setting you choose. Watching the reels makes you go dizzy and you can't really see what's going on. Part of the fun is to watch the reels fall into place. That's not possible with this game. But at least you don't lose your winnings, unlike Totem Treasure 2, which seems to have some kind of technical issue with that. Sometimes it keeps your winnings, including the bank, but sometimes the whole thing resets and it's all gone. I lost over 60 million dollars. Oh well, easy come, easy go.
But back to this game. It's not one of my favourites and I'm glad I bought it at a discount price. If there was a way to slow the reels down, I'd give it a top rating.
I don't recommend this game.

I'm not sure if this is a technical issue, but whenever you quit the game and go back in, all your winnings are gone, even your bank balance. You have to start from scratch, which is really disappointing. This doesn't happen with any of the other slot games. I've checked the forum and other players have the same issue. Other than that, it's good fun and you can become a 'millionaire' in no time at all, the bonus spins come up quite regularly and visually it's quite pleasant. It's just a shame that you lose all your money once you quit. That's why I gave this game only three stars.
I recommend this game!

I love this game. You can win big quite quickly, the bonus feature comes up pretty regularly and it's a fun way to indulge in a little vice without doing any damage to your real bank account (except for the purchase price of the actual game of course). It's a shame the real slot machines don't pay as well. lol
This game has the option of banking your money, just press B on the keyboard. You don't get a choice of how much is banked though, you are simply left with a $5000 balance. There seems to be no way to unbank your money, which is a bit frustrating, so I ran myself out of money on purpose to see what would happen and another $5000 was withdrawn from the bank automatically. I'd like to see a bit more control of that feature. Also a prompt would be nice after you press the B, just in case you press it accidentally, like 'are you sure you want to bank your money?'
It would also be nice to be able to actually do something with your winnings, like upgrade somehow, like unlock more bonuses or other games etc.
Other than that, it's a nice game with good graphics and looks just like a real gaming machine. The music is a bit much, so I play with the speakers turned off.
I recommend this game!
