The storyline is quite silly and in many ways steals plots from other games. The voice acting is pretty bad. The morphing objects are so tiny, and the game doesn't even tell you exactly where you can find them. And the Strategy Guide doesn't tell you either; in fact, it hardly tells you anything at all. And the Bonus Game was apparently just tacked on, without any rhyme or reason, only because it *was* supposed to be the Collector's Edition.
But the biggest problem of all was that it should not even have been called a Ravenhearst game. Anyone who has played any of the first three Ravenhearst games knows that Ravenhearst was built by Charles, played by a brilliant voice actor. But the developers got rid of both the actor and the character he played, yet can't seem to let go of the Ravenhearst name. That is like trying to make a Batman story without the Batman! That's not just disappointing, it's downright annoying - trying to "milk" the Ravenhearst fame on the cheap!
In short, this was definitely not worth my money. :/
I don't recommend this game.

The game is actually pretty short, IF you ignore all the trophies. The story itself is even shorter. As for the trophies, they are not only TOO MANY but some quite ridiculous. For instance, as the trophy itself clearly states, you have to find the morphing object IN the hidden object scene. On top of that, you often have two layers of hidden objects IN the same scene. Yet you are dared to finish a hidden object scene in less than one minute -- ridiculous. What's more, I found 7 objects in 7 seconds in more than one hidden object scene, yet never got the trophy for that! Talk about cheating a gamer out of the promised award... :(
All in all, it's the trophies that are really this so-called Collector's Edition's undoing. Not only are there too many of these, but they are too distracting from the game itself! But then, if you ignore the trophies, then the game and the storyline are so short, it's not even fit to be called a game, let alone a Collector's Edition, and definitely not worth the money.
I wish I could give you a compliment, dear developers. But I'm afraid you really went way overboard on the trophies, at the expense of delivering a good story/game.

I really enjoyed this game. It is definitely a rare combination of everything good. Graphics were great; the storyline original and gripping; and the puzzles and hidden-object scenes just right -- in both the number and solvability (none of those HO scenes where you are squinting to try to find an object from the list!). Also, a lot of HO games have so many HO scenes and puzzles that makes gamers lose track of the storyline, or at least just where they were in that storyline! All the Collector's Edition games I have ever played especially tend to suffer from this problem: they fill the game with so many Achievements that they overwhelm the gamer. It's a challenge to even remember the storyline while trying to get all those achievements that really add nothing but frustration to the game. But this game (Midnight Mysteries: Ghostwriting CE) suffers from NONE of these "hazards." It has just the right number of HO scenes, puzzles and Achievements.
In short, I really loved this game! It was definitely the BEST Midnight Mysteries game and, quite likely, the best HIDDEN OBJECT game I ever played.
My highest compliments to the Developers! Great job indeed, guys!!! And I do hope you will make more games like this in the future too!!!
I recommend this game!

Graphics and sounds were great, but the choice of voice acting was very bad. Why didn't they use the voice they've used in the first five games?! This one didn't fit the character at all. Dupin, as depicted, is young, looks soft-spoken, and is supposed to be French. In contrast, the voice used sounded much older, extremely gruff, and not French at all. Every time, the character opened his mouth, he seemed to be scolding rather than speaking. Very disconcerting indeed. :(
Speaking of opening one's mouth, none of the characters did! I have noticed in other HO games that the mouth movements don't go with the words at all. I gather that's because the original language used in the games is not English. Although it *is* a bit awkward to see the mouth doesn't go with the voice, it's a lot more awkward not to see the mouth opening at all. It's like watching a still life picture with the sound emanating from somewhere in the back... Not good at all. :(
As to the story itself, it was really going great -- very gripping, full of suspense -- until the End: it was just too abrupt and, speaking for myself at least, it did not make much sense at all. I can't say anything specific, of course, because we are not supposed to give any spoilers. So suffice it to say, the ending did not answer what should have been the most "burning questions" by that point... :(
Finally, the Bonus Chapter did not do a thing for me. It seemed to be something hastily added on, with a lot of run-around trying to find this or that, but hardly any storyline. In other words, much ado about nothing.
In closing, I would just like to say that it *could* have been a great game, at least the main one. If only the devs had chosen a better voice actor and, at the very least, actually spent some time on the ending and the Bonus Chapter. And no matter what you do, devs, please do NOT use the same actor for Dupin again!!! Thanks.

Hate to give a bad review, but this game deserves it. The Storyline was so uncreative; there were just way too many HO scenes, puzzles & even achievements; and the music was so monotonous and even annoying, it was enough to drive one nuts! Good graphics, but graphics are not everything. :(
I don't recommend this game.
