Early Puppet Show games are hit and miss for me. Some I liked, some I didn't. This one? I could not even finish it. I'm glad this was a game club freebie, because if I paid $13.99 for it, I would have been upset. The story line has been used so many times before that if you have been with bigfish for over a decade, you could write it yourself. I own hundreds of games and I can count on one hand the number of games I did not care to finish. I was that bored., and that insulted.
What I liked: The graphics are well done. There were collectible bells and flowers. I'm trying to think of something else. Nope, nothing there.
What I disliked: This developer has been around for a long time. Why can't they find someone who can proofread the text? They are charging $19.99 for this CE and they can't be bothered to check for spelling and grammar. Add to that a total lack of research on the time period. If you're making a game set in 1883, it is not difficult to do some research. The automobile was not yet invented in 1883. Then you search for a key, which was not used for an automobile until the 1940's.
Maybe I have played HOPAS too long, but the puzzles were not at all challenging. Hubby is worried about his wife, but won't go inside to tell her that her friend arrives. Instead he hands you a note. It's a piece of paper with drawings of heads on it. Of course, that's exactly how I would lock my door. He tells you she won't answer the door unless she hears those specific tones. You match the pictures and click the heads in order. A two year can do that. After telling you she needs to hear a special ring, you would expect the bells to be different, wouldn't you? Nope, same sound for all of them.
Please, developers, come up with something new, proofread your text, and retire this series. I realize you want to create some simpler games for newbies, but I feel like most of your audience is an older group of people. Many of us have played HOPAS for 20 years. Give us something challenging.
I enjoy these games, but why can't they shake things up a bit? Here's a thought: I Love Finding Farm Animals, I Love Finding Zoo Animals, I Love Finding Aquatic Animals, I Love Finding unicorns, dragons, dinosaurs. Shake things up a bit and I would be more than happy to spend my money. It is a good game, but for those of us who have already bought pups, more pups, cats, and more cats, this one is a pass.
