I am more into HOGs, but I need a break every once in a while. That's when I usually turn to time management games. I saw that this one had straight 5's for ratings, so I downloaded the trial and then bought it. If this were an object, I would say that I am unable to put it down. It is so addictive, it is unreal. The number of things going on at one time as you get into the game makes it impossible to get bored and I found myself constantly waiting to see what was going to come next. The storyline is fine for the storyline version, but it is no great novel. The challenge version has proven to be equally addictive. This is definitely one I could play over and over again in order to try to beat my scores. Love it!
I recommend this game!

I have never played a game by this company before, and I have to say that I was relatively impressed. It was not wildly different from the typical HOG -- save the family member from the evil witch -- but there were many interactions throughout with both spirits and objects that kept it interesting and entertaining. The graphics were decent and I the soundtrack was fairly pleasant (though it does repeat over and over again). The hidden object scenes were reasonable and interactive, though maybe a bit too frequent. The games were challenging, with a few I haven't seen before thrown in. Playing times was good too, lasting 4-5 hours.
If I had one complaint, it would be that the storyline doesn't always seem quite logical or flowing. In really well done games, the player usually has an intuitive sense where to go next, what location is likely to yield the next find or what object you're likely going to need next. In this case, it felt at moments like you just go from room to room to see if there is a hidden object session there or something to do, and less of a sense of why you're going there or how ti fits the storyline.
In the end, still a good game and worth the few bucks.
I recommend this game!

There is a moment at the beginning of all HOGs where you know you're going to be in for the long haul just to substantiate your purchase or when you know this one is going to be great. This game has that moment. For me, it was at the initial seance when I was placing the card-suit gems into the enhanced image of the cabinet. There, in the background, I could see the actual image update simultaneously as I placed the gem into the called-out image. It is that kind of detail and that kind of attention that has made this company's games amongst my favorites. The plot is fascinating. The graphics are crisp and interesting. The music provides a perfect backdrop, mimicking the tone of the scene. The characters, their dialogue and the live-action scenes are incredible. The tasks are just complicated enough to keep it interesting and the game took a good 5 or 6 hours. I've played several of this company's games, but I can say for sure that I would probably buy almost anything they put out after this one. Absolutely loved it!
I recommend this game!

I agree with almost everyone's reviews. This is a very good game that I really enjoyed playing. The story is interesting, there was something really cool about playing the game under water and the mix of reasonable HO scenes with slightly more challenging games made for a good time. I also agree that audio would have been 100x better than the written dialogue. I really liked the bar in Davy Jones' house. I wish there were more scenes there.
I recommend this game!

The very first HOG I ever played was The Treasures of Mystery Island: Ghost Ship by this same group. It's been a long time since I played that, though, so I had forgotten how great this group's games are until I started to play this one. The graphics are amazing, the gameplay is always interesting and the music and ambient sounds are awesome. The cutaway scenes are also really well done, almost seeming cinemagraphic at times. I loved the fact that there were so many different locations and rooms to explore which meant that the game was by no means short (probably 4.5-5 hours). The only criticism#and it's a little one at best# is that I didn't think there twas much complexity in terms of figuring out what to do with the various inventory objects #e.g., not a lot of contemplating what to do next required). In the end, it is definitely worth the money.
I recommend this game!

Based on reviews I say here and other sites, I would have thought this was the best HOG ever made. It's not. It's ok. On the positive side, it has many levels and a lot to do on every screen. On the down side, the amount of back-tracking and to and fro I had to do to get somewhere became annoying. It was one of those games that you find yourself tired of playing 2/3 of the way through but you finish because you don't want to waste the money. The music was so-so and the phantom was more annoying than anything. I was also aggrevated by the fact that I couldn't get to the bonus stage once completed (I'm still not sure why). In the end, there are many better games to spend the money on than this one.
I don't recommend this game.
