The demo proved that this could have been a good game at least. Not a 5 star game but a good one. Unfortunately, the game became boring and tedious after the demo. And I really didn't care whether my twin (?) brother was awakened from his cryogenic state or not. The space station I found myself on had several items to find to fix things before thawing could occur.
Throughout the game I found myself using the hint button because I had no idea what I should do next. Maybe I'm just dense but after being catapulted to the space station I was lost. I lost interest in the story and I lost interest in completing the puzzles and HO's. I was ready to join the Contagion. I take my hat off to those of you who completed the entire game. You deserve a medal.
Others have given you all the story you need to know, all the CE things to be on the look out for and the HO and puzzle game play. I'm not going over that again. Suffice it to say that I did not find this game as appealing as most people did. At its core, it is just another version of an evil entity trying to overtake the world which we have to stop. Same ole, same ole. The Contagion look like pink grasshoppers to me.
As usual, try the demo. You may think it is 5 stars too. For me, I say don't waste your time and money for a game that is just "meh".

After the less than warm reception from Triss, you automatically know what's coming. After I, the player, solve all the games and HOs and finally get my hands on the cube holding the magical creatures.....yep, betrayal. The cube is shattered and the creatures escape. Triss wants to harness their powers for herself. Yep, another villain greedy for power and and revenge. Have we been here before?
This is not a stellar game. I guess all of the descriptions given about the game could apply. Like, its relaxing, ooooo look at the cute puppy, beautiful graphics (and they are), just the right amount of challenge, no challenge, too easy, gimmicky, etc., etc.
Whether or not you purchase this game will be a matter of your opinion, not the opinions of everyone else because the reviews are all over the place. I do not believe this game deserves 5 stars however. I could easily have given it 4 stars but the story is predictable and there is nothing special about the collectibles. The mini games are easy and there is nothing special about the HOs. I'm not fond of helpers or gimmicks. The last Edge of Reality game, Fatal Luck was an excellent game even tho the Corgi was in the game. He seldom appeared in the game however.
Take this one for a ride. See if its a buy for you. I personally recommend waiting for the SE if you really must have it. It isn't at CE game.

The Lost Lands games are my favorite series. I have all of them. One of the things which I like the most is the maps. The maps are laid out in such a way that you can see each and every domain (there are more than one) where you need to go and also indicate the presence collectibles and morphing objects in a location. You don't have to wonder if you have collected those things or not. Think that makes it easy? Not really. The collectibles are not very easy to find and may be hidden in a dark corner somewhere.
Susan and Maaron are a great team. The very old, wise wizard who advises Susan on her quests. In this game however, Susan has become his enemy by murdering Cassandra the white witch who was Maaron's mentor. Maaron had put Cassandra into a deep sleep hoping to find a cure for her fatal illness. Cassandra had wanted Maaron to kill her but he wouldn't. His actions eventually caused evil to break out in the Lost Lands. With the use of the Time Hexagon which is powered by human ashes, Susan goes back in time to try to correct the past and in doing so, a worse situation is created. Maaron sees her murder Cassandra and vows revenge. Evil overtakes Maaron and when he discovers Susan will return in 500 centuries, he lies in wait for her appearance. In this era, Maaron does not know who Susan is. He has no knowledge of the quests they have shared together. Maaron, now Lord Maaron who rules over Maaronville, captures Susan and tosses her into his dungeon. From that point, it is a race for Susan to get out of the dungeon and get back to a point in time to alter the events she set in motion.
This game has a unique plot twist since Maaron and Susan have always had a close relationship in previous games. For Maaron to turn evil and seek to kill her is a diversion from the usual and a very intriguing one. Will Susan ever be able to bring Maaron back from wickedness?
As for the game elements, some may find the interactive progressive HOs tedious. I welcome them as a fresh alternative to the usual clutter we are offered. Loved the mini games. Everything flowed together however. The HOs and the mini games seemed to mix together with the story in a non-intrusive way but as building blocks to further intent toward a goal. Graphics were very nice but they always are in Lost Lands games. Voices are appropriate and are very good acting. I don't really listen to the music so I can't comment on that. Collectibles consist of morphing objects and categories of objects to locate such as urns, manuscript pages, spiders, etc. As a reward for finding all the collectibles, you are rewarded with extra mini games.
For many of you, this is not or would not be a game you would want to purchase. Please try it. I suggest that you take this one from the harbor and set sail for a demo. If the CE price or bling doesn't appeal to you, wait for the SE. But don't pass it up.

I just finished the demo of this game and it is a definite buy for me. This is not the most challenging game I've played perhaps but it is not easy. Domini served up a game which gives us intriguing game play by switching the characters as they try to work toward freeing each other. It has good mini games and HOs and beautiful graphics.
As others have stated, the story is based on Phantom of the Opera. Phantom or Isaac believes he can only perform his new opera with ghost singers. We meet his star ghost who helps us in our quest to get out of the dungeon.
Try the demo and decide for yourself if this is a game you would like to own. I definitely will be buying.

Review from Demo
I've never been much of a fan of the Hidden Expedition series, but a couple of them have been pretty good. This one however follows the trend lately to churn out one game after another that has no logic and has deteriorated into going back and forth to find one key to open a lock which conceals another key to a lock which contains an amulet that opens something else. There is just too much lately of the same thing over and over in every single game, not just the HE series.
After a gang attack in the jungles of the Amazon, Sam is believed dead since we saw it with our own eyes (he usually just disappears and we don't know if he's dead or not). We don't waste much time mourning over the loss of Sam the super agent sidekick however and we must rush to Montana! In a junkyard there, we wind up chased by fake police but must take the time to stack tires to get on the roof of a dilapidated garage and run. Very slow police. Then we take time to find the mime's heart then discover we ran into an ambush at the train station.
There is nothing about this game to recommend it as a game to buy unless all you want for your money is collectibles and some good graphics . It is a pitiful attempt at a HOPA and very lackluster. Puzzles and HOs are easy and mediocre at best.
I don't understand 5 star reviews for this game. There is no way I would purchase it or recommend it.
Try the demo but be forewarned that it is boring and tedious.
On the fence about this one but its not a 5 star game

I played the demo until time ran out, That's a factor in the game's favor. However, I do not consider this a 5 star game. I gave it 3 because there's no 2.5. We deal with the same game mechanics as usual. There is the obligatory car crash in the beginning on a lonely back road. Then Jane is injected with a test serum and taken to the asylum where she is imprisoned. After that, its all about finding parts, finding keys, smoking bees and I'm sure that somewhere down the road in this game there will be a fishing pole to fix, a broken key to remold, etc. The first game in this series was spectacular. Now, it seems the series is spiraling down like many other series have done.
Mad Head graphics and voice overs are usually good and its the same here. Mad Head almost always produces a visually great game but many times that's where the good parts of the game stop. The mini games are nothing special and the HOs are the usual with Mad Head games with morphing objects within them. The CE edition has morphing objects within the scenes as well as collectible brains. Yes, brains.
There was no need for the warning about the game in the demo at least. Only one thing gave me a jump but that was all.
I agree with Granny Gruff. There's no fuzzy feeling about Jane and therefore not much interest in whether she gets saved or not. And, of course you know beforehand the sheriff is in on the misdeeds.
I may wait for the SE or I may pass it up entirely. As usual, play the demo because the opinions about this game vary widely. I will recommend it with some misgivings about that but I think you should wait for the SE if you are interested in it at all after you have played the demo.

Based on 30 minutes of demo which is all I could stand. Mystery Case Files has been one of my favorite series. Dire Grove, Fate's Carnival, The Revenant's Hunt and others. This game is nothing like the Mystery Case Files I have become accustomed to. All those 5 star reviewers did not play the same game I did or they were too entranced by the nostalgia of "the good ole days". Really??? Are we not always looking for something newer and better? Something challenging and intriguing. Why then retreat from the daily battle to achieve that by "going back to the good ole days"?? Just sayin. Why applaud a developer with 5 stars for a game that deserves none? Want to find out what was so great about the "good ole days"? Download Ravenhearst and play the demo.
Nothing but HO's and while others may rave about the return to the style of the initial Ravenhearst game, I found it tedious to crawl through junk pile after junk pile with no apparent story or reason. Just bouncing through one HO scene to another.
Eipix has been known to throw out some really bad games, but I don't think I've ever had my intelligence so insulted.
Run away, far away and don't even think about buying this game.

Artifex Mundi games are some of my favorite games but I don't understand the rave reviews of this game. After trying the demo, I wasn't bowled over but decided to go with it and see what all the accolades were about.
After purchasing, I got to the genie when I gave up in boredom and tedium. There is nothing new in this game. The story is not really different we have the same HOs the same puzzles, the same back and forth and back and forth. I found the game play to be clunky and at times I had no idea where to go or what to do. The hoops required to jump through at the genie's palace were totally irritating. Pressing the hint button mostly produced the "Better move along" message. To finally reach the interior of the genie's palace only to be fooled by Zaved and give him the very thing you need to defeat him is standard fare in almost every HO game.
Why is it that most games of this genre have an item that is protected by some sort of council of good guys but over the centuries, the council falls apart and leaves the world open to destruction by an evil power? This story line is used repeatedly just as it is here.
My advice is to move along folks 'cause there's nothing new to see here.

This is by far one of the better games we have had in a long time. My only reason for giving it 4 instead of 5 stars was because I and many others from what I read in the forum got stuck in limbo in the boiler room. Thank you 4Friends for the update so I could get out of there but I think its poor form that so obvious a technical glitch went into the final game. No worries however, they did fix the glitch.
I believe this is a better game than we are usually fed because I found the plot original since I've not played a game based on gambling and luck before. The graphics were stunning plenty of blues and forest greens. The voice acting is top notch. There a lot of interaction among the characters which relieved the usual silent drudgery going from task to task. There were not hundreds of keys and amulets to find nor did I put together a single fishing pole that I recall.
There were some new puzzles which were somewhat challenging and the HOs are interactive an not always easy to find. There are 50 hidden Joker scepters to find which open a new hidden object game. The bonus chapter was a sequel and appropriate to the casino theme. There are few chapters in the main and bonus games but I really did not find the game short in duration. I can't comment on the music because I don't listen to it.
Try the demo but I think if you do, you will be hooked. Don't like the CE price, wait for the SE but don't pass this one up. It is the best game to come along in a very long time.

Once again, I am disappointed in Elephant Games because of a travesty they present as a legitimate HOPA. As far as the story went, it is like they threw fog monsters and sci-fi into a mix and out popped a game riddled with the tedium of collecting keys, keys, and more keys and amulet after amulet. To advance in the game at any juncture required a key (which you must find) or an amulet and just for the annoyance factor another amulet to go with it, And, you will not find these things until you have fixed the proverbial hedge clippers you need to clip the thorns, etc. (of course, the parts will be scattered), found all the parts necessary for a fishing pole and used a spider web for the string on a bow. Every trite and tedious item of game play can be found in this game.
Oh yes, there are lovely graphics. That doesn't add anything to the enjoyment. The girl's voice is grating. I still don't understand why the girl was kidnapped in the first place. I guess I missed that part while I was searching around for all the keys I had to find. There is nothing new in the puzzles or HOs. All of them are elementary school level
This game is shorter than most CE's and unfortunately I bought it and played through to the end. Pity me! Somehow you can't get rid of Elf permanently. The collectibles dress him up in various costumes.
I suggest that you don't make the mistake I did and buy the CE but my cup of vinegar may be your cup of tea. Try the demo.
