For the first time in ages, I'm reviewing a game to keep other fans of the Mortimer Beckett series from making the same mistake. The original Mortimer has taken a nosedive straight onto a concrete floor...splat and dead. The only thing left of the original is the character's name.
Ok, they did away with the movie-like style and went with a cartoon style. One could get used to that. The storyline doesn't flow well and bounces around too much. The tutorial screens can't be turned off and then get stuck in the middle of the screen you're currently trying to work with. The only way to unblock it is to smack at the hint button, which then causes a penalty in your game. And HOG scenes against a timer? With the controls that clunky, that's nuts. It was a hassle just to get to level five. By level ten, I was so frustrated with it that I just turned it off and said phooey on it.
The worst of it is that the developers clearly designed this entirely for a mobile format, which means the game only partially functions on a PC. Necessary features to advance in the game simply do not work. If you're considering buying this one for a PC, don't. Trust me; I'm now stuck with an unplayable game...and a Collector's Edition at that. Not a happy camper right now, and a very disappointed Mortimer Beckett fan.
I don't recommend this game in general, but I REALLY don't recommend it for anyone using a PC.
I don't recommend this game.

The original Spa Mania was fun, aggravatingly challenging at times, but fun. Spa Mania 2...no. Game play is much the same as the first with the exception that now there is a mini game attached to EVERY station, which is annoying enough. The problem comes when you find out that finishing the level depends on getting the speed bonuses from these mini games - and not every customer asks for every service, so you wind up pretty well shafted. In the first one, you could repeat previous levels to buy another upgrade so you could tackle a harder level again with a better tool. In this one you can't - you can replay previous levels, but you get no money. If you like games that are "pull your hair out" frustrating and don't mind repeating levels a hundred times or more waiting on a bunch of random stuff to line up just right, go ahead and buy it. If you want a reasonably challenging TM game...DON'T.
I don't recommend this game.

It's become a nasty habit of a lot of HOG's to advertise themselves as "puzzle games" when they are strictly hidden object scenes with a few simple puzzles every few levels or have you solve a few puzzles with the objects you find, which rankles me badly enough. This one touting itself as time management is just beyond the pale. There is no time management to this game whatsoever. None. It is hidden object scenes, fulfilling quests with some of the objects you find, selling the rest of the objects, and collecting money to fix up the farm. The crops that you do get to grow to supply your shop take ten minutes a shot to harvest; methinks the dev's took too many cues from Facebook games on that score.
If you're looking for a strictly HOG, then here you go. The graphics were clean, the scenes easy to find the objects in. The extra challenges were a little unclear as to what, exactly, you were supposed to do and took some trial and error to figure them out. The sounds and music were applicable to a farm, so that's a matter of personal taste as to whether or not you like country music. There is an option to turn the music off and leave the voice-overs and ambient sounds as they are. The storyline was interesting and engaging, by far the best part of the game as a whole.
If you're looking for a time management game...don't even bother with this one.
I don't recommend this game.

I'm a big fan of Tetris-style games, but this one is just...yikes. Just like with basic Tetris, you're given blocks in various shapes to put into a grid formation to build pillars, buildings and the like. Here's the catch - you can't rotate the pieces! You can only move them left or right and then drop them onto the shape you're trying to build. Unfortunately, this leaves the player forced to constantly mess up the formation no matter how well they may have been doing on any particular level. On some levels you can still progress, others you may as well just keep starting it over in the hopes that it cooperates and gives you all the right pieces in the right order.
The storyline was interesting and made for a fun game premise, but was very hard to read due to a poor English translation. Hopefully, the other languages have an easier time with that.
All in all, the game is just way too frustrating to be any fun...odd for a game from Meridian93. This developer usually does considerably better than this. Perhaps if an update is issued that has a few more controls it would be worth it, but as it is I can't recommend it even to Tetris fans who want an incredibly hard challenge.
I don't recommend this game.

Being a TM nut, I had to give this one a whirl. I gave the demo it's full hour, hoping that it would finally improve a little bit, but it never did. Not only is there a serious lack of instructions on some important details, but some of your tasks give you no instructions whatsoever. I decided to try and build a house to see if that would allow me more workers, which it did, but this is information that the players need to be told. There is also a great deal of mistaken information in what few instructions you ARE given. For example, you're told that the stone littering the roadways can then be used to build with. No, only one batch of white stone can ever be used and takes so long to respawn that you can generally only build one building before your time runs out. You're encouraged to build a farm, which gives one food each use, while the food you pick up (literally everywhere) gives four food each, so the farm is useless and a waste of precious stone and the time it takes to use it. I'm surprised to see some folks likening this one to the My Kingdom series; it's nowhere near the caliber of those. It could have been a fantastic game if a little more thought had gone into it, but as it is I can't recommend this one to anyone.
I don't recommend this game.

While this game is based on the salon-style games, giving different treatments to the zombies at each station, it is so bizarrely different that you wouldn't link it to those! The storyline was cute, the game-play itself was fun. It was challenging enough to keep you trying, but not so tough that you're pulling your hair out trying to get an expert score. What killed it for me was the sheer amount of mini games at every station...so many in fact that my zombie butlers were never able to help at all. And, unfortunately, the mini-game overload slowed everything you were doing down to the point that most of your zombie clients were forever angry. I had to go chasing them down and bashing them with the hammer, which just slowed things down even more and made them even more angry.
I'd recommend this game to folks who seriously like a lot, and I do mean A LOT of mini-games. For those folks that find these mini-games annoying in general, much less on every single client, I'd have to say avoid this game like the zombie plague.
