This is a fun little game that is a great way to spend an evening. The first 15 minutes or so almost made me reconsider purchasing the game and consider trashing it. However, I stuck with it, and I'm glad I did. More about that in a minute.
This is a great game for beginners. As an expert player, I can't really say I was challenged all that much, but that wasn't the point of this game. It's just a lot of fun - plain and simple!
I've read where people have written, "Robin Hood's a girl? I don't think so." But, and I don't think this is a spoiler at all, Robin does just happen to be a girl, and her last name happens to be "Hood." However, she goes on later in life to give birth to a boy whom she names Robin, also, and HE is the legendary Robin Hood. That is why part of the title of this game is, "A Legend Born."
So, let's all get over the "Robin Hood's a girl" thing.
Don't go into this game expecting really challenging, serious game play. That's not what this game is about. But, don't forget that just having pure fun with a game has its value, also.
It's rather linear, and there is a bit of hand-holding going on, and while that is usually a deal-breaker for me, with this game, I could forgive it. The game doesn't pretend to be nor strive to be anything it isn't, so the hand-holding didn't bother me this time.
Just be patient through the first 15-30 minutes or so where there is a girl's voice that just tells you every move to make - she does go away and you are on your own.
Take a chance with this game. Just remember to accept it for what it is and don't have any other expectations. It's really a lot of fun!
*REVIEW BASED UPON COMPLETION OF REGULAR GAME AND BONUS GAME*
Finally! I finally finished this game. Oh, how I curse the switch in my brain that tells me I MUST finish EVERYTHING I start!
If you like a game that is nothing but HOGs, this is the game for you. If HOGs were a kingdom, this game would be its king.
Every time you turn around, hidden object game, hidden object game - they are everywhere. However, perhaps one could forgive the incessant use of HOGs if they are presented well.
Not a chance.
Every - and I mean every - single HOG is a junk pile of tiny objects packed up to half your screen or more. They are hideous.
The mini-games are scarce and they are simply tokens, as they are not at all challenging, just an obligatory "switch these two" so the developer can say they put a mini-game in this dreadful game.
The graphics could have been cleaner.
One thing I can say that is sort of positive is that the bonus game was not an afterthought. It was an acceptable level time-wise. However, that is a double-edged sword, because by the time you reach the bonus game, you just want this game to come to end.
C'mon, my fellow fishies! Raise your standards as to what you expect from your games. As long as people continue to praise bad games, the games will continue to be sloppy, repetitive, boring and mindless. Raising our collective standards will, in turn, raise the quality of our games.
Welcome to Top Secret Finders. Your first mission is to save a small town, uncover the truth about a government conspiracy and stop the villain in his tracks!
**This Review Is Based Upon Completion of Entire Game"
I initially passed on this game because I always rank the reviews by lowest first, so I can see what it is about a game that people didn't like.
I can usually determine whether I am going to like a game that way, based upon a few certain things I don't like in games. If I see those things show up in the bad reviews, I know I won't like a game.
For example, if someone, or even more than one person, says, "This game has HOGs every time you turn around," then I know I will not like that game at all. (Not a fan of HOGs.)
Also, and I mean no disrespect at all, I find most people's standards of what they call a "really great game" are different from mine. I tend to be more critical of games and demand more. I mean, once you've played Syberia II, you start expecting your games to live up to that standard.
But then, sometimes despite questions in my mind due to the bad reviews, I just have to go with my gut feeling. That's what I did with this game.
I truly loved this game. I am confused as to why there are so many negative reviews surrounding this game.
I found it challenging, the HOGs were not too frequent, and it was just all around a lot of fun. Half way through the demo, I even stopped and went to look for a CE version of this game. Too bad I couldn't find one.
I also don't understand the "you had to go back and forth too much" complaint. Why do people complain about that? If you only went forward with every step, the game would be too linear and not at all fun.
I enjoy moving around in a game, investigating scenes from different angles depending upon what new information I have uncovered. It is especially fun when there is an interactive map to help.
So, I simply adored this game and would highly recommend it to anyone. This is one game where I also recommend you look over the bad reviews and judge for yourself. You might not like it; but you might be like me and find an unexpected treasure!
***Review Based Upon Completion of Full Game and Bonus Game***
Ok, most here know how much I loathe reviews left after playing only the demo or less. I think reviews should be left only upon completion of a full game. However, that is NOT what this is all about.
Trust me, on this game, you REALLY need to not leave reviews after the demo. This game started out with real promise, and if you play only the DEMO, you are going to come back here and leave positive feedback, because the first of the game is actually quite good.
Then it continues and its wheels roll off quickly. The repetitiveness of this game becomes annoying at first, but you think maybe they'll hit their stride as the game goes on.
THEY DON'T.
The repetition goes on and on and on and on. (Pun intended.) They literally have only THREE different mini-puzzles that rarely make an appearance, and they are the lamest mini-puzzles I've every play on any game.
There are HOGs everywhere you turn. They should have just named this game the HOG game. And it is the kind where they give you objects and you find where the objects are, as opposed to giving you the words of object and you finding those.
As HOGs go, I prefer that - but not 100 TIMES A GAME!
This game was SO amateurish and the story is ridiculous. Oh, and get this: they actually introduce a new character at the end of the game who supposedly has a major impact on the game, but you've never heard of that character until the end. Where did he/she come from, developer? They just pulled that character out of their...um...ears.
The music is definitely turn-it-all-the-way-down music.
The ending is a joke, an unintended joke.
I'm really dislike being so negative, but I have this thing about always finishing games I start, so it was maddening trying to get to the end of the game. I finally just started hitting "Hint" on the HOGs just to get them over with, and I never hit "Hint" on any game.
I could not WAIT for this game to end.
Terrible, terrible game. As a matter of fact, the developer ought to be ashamed of themselves. I know I am ashamed of them.
Oh, the bane of my existence are reviews written based upon playing only the demo, or worse, only part of the demo.
Anyway, as stated, this review is based upon completion of the full game, including the bonus game. I played both on hardcore, so some my experience may be different from yours.
First I should compliment this game on being an overall wonderful gaming experience. The game was quite complex and difficult in places, which I loved - I had to actually think!
I thought there was a lot of running around that got really old for me, and then in the bonus game I finally realized that the map is interactive and I only had to click on the location and I was immediately taken there - total blonde moment.
The first thing I do when opening a new game is click on Options and turn the music almost all the way down. As soon as this game opened up, the music was enchanting, so I actually listened to it while playing. Excellent music.
The only complaint I have is that on my level some of the hot spots were a little ticky-tacky. You really have to be precise at some spots, but then not at all on others. That frustrated me a bit.
Oh, big plus - I am not a fan of HOG. This is more of an adventure game and less a HOG game. There was a goodly number of HOGs to satisfy a HOG lover, but not so many as to annoy those of us who aren't. I will compliment the developer on making them challenging. Some items were a no-brainer, but then there would be a couple of really challenging items that were fun to figure out.
The bonus level took hours to complete. No shabby afterthought on this game! It is as if you are playing a full part of the game. And, the bonus game wraps up the whole story nicely and I found it very satisfying.
All in all, I think this is an excellent game, and I don't often hand out compliments on games. This one is worth every penny - the best game I've played in ages.
**Review Based Upon Completion of Entire Game on SE**
First a disclaimer: I have a ton of free games so I used one on this game, so it was theoretically free for me.
I rarely leave reviews for a game, but I think you might miss this game because of other reviews or news that the game is a short game. (I finished it in one sitting in one night, started after the news at 6 p.m. and finished by the 10 p.m. news.)
This is a little game, but it's a great little game. I am very critical of games - but I really liked this game.
I found this game to be innovative and sharp. Everything is clean and precise, and I even enjoyed the HOGs, and I hate HOGs; I just tolerate them to get to the mini-games and other challenges. (Speaking of that, what happened to pure Adventure games? Couldn't maybe one game developer actually make a game without HOGs?)
The HOGs were based upon categories - "Find Face and Head Objects," and no HOG has more than 12 items to find. They were really fun.
The mini-games were quite challenging for such a short game. They really aren't for the weak of heart. Bring your brain for this one.
I just wanted to leave a good review for this game. Just because it doesn't drag on forever doesn't mean it isn't a neat little game. It packs a punch for the few quality hours of excellent entertainment it will give you.
I cannot speak on the CE version, because I resisted the temptation this time so I could burn some of these free games.
But, I very enthusiastically recommend this game. Hope you enjoy it, too!
I recommend this game!

*This review breaks my oath to never review a game I haven't completed. The review is based on about six minutes of play.*
One big complaint that was a deal breaker: when I open an online jigsaw puzzle, I don't want to have to span the globe to find all my pieces. They were randomly strewn hither and yon for no particular purpose, except that apparently a developer thought it was fun to give you a solid-color background (gray is default), and then waste your time having to drag and drag and drag the screen in all directions to find all of your puzzle pieces so you could bring them back to a space where they can all be seen in one screenshot.
A perfect analogy would be if you wanted to play a game of cards, but at the beginning of every hand you had to deal with a round of 52-card pickup before you could play your game.
*This review is based upon completion of the entire game and the bonus content*
My first overall "hurray" for this game is that I was well into the game, and I mean WELL into the game, before I ever got to a true hidden object puzzle. This game is clearly more of an adventure game than a HOG, so for adventurers like myself - YIPPEE!
I am a very critical gamer, but I really would struggle to find weaknesses in this game. There is one, but I'll get to that in a moment.
Strong graphics, strong storyline, strong voice-overs, strong UI, this game just really hits on all cylinders. The mini-puzzles are fun, but they tickled the line of being not challenging enough.
My only complaint is the achievements. Of course, any true gamer wants to nail ALL achievements in a game, and the ones that this developer has set out simply make achieving all of them out of reach. Maybe that's the point. However, with two of the achievements being "Finish the game in one sitting" and "Finish the game in under six hours," many of us are really sunk before we ever start.
The part that really annoyed me was having to find 60 angels while playing the game. At first, it was fun; I always enjoy finding a little something extra in a scene. But, after only a short while into the game, the game play no longer was fun because I became so distracted by finding those darn angels. They had nothing to do with the game, and they really took focus away from the game and took a LOT of fun out of it.
By the end of the game, I was really hating on the finding the collectables.
But, despite those couple of things above, this game was really great. It was just a classy game. No misspellings, good game flow, fun mini-games. I was sad when it was over. Well done!
All in all, this was a fun game that I would recommend.
SPOILER ALERT: READ AT YOUR OWN PERIL!
A gentle, but important warning to my BFG gaming friends:
In this game, you come upon an area where the bad guy has previously killed children and dogs. I was taken aback by that, especially since their petrified bodies were shown.
*This review is based upon completion of the game.*
This is a harmless little game. I was very thankful the hidden object puzzles were kept to a minimum; however, the trade-off was that the developer hit on one or two mini-games it liked and stuck with those EXACT mini-games over and over throughout the game.
Some of the mini-games were atrocious in the quality of the game, especially one that involved a bear. The developers REALLY should be ashamed about that game - and completely embarrassed.
One fun thing is the huge stone phallic symbol they added.
I enjoyed it despite these issues. It's just a harmless little game!
Brink was the best game I've played all year! And that's saying a lot because I've played a ton of games.
I just completed two Nancy Drew games, going back to Stay Tuned for Danger (one of the first of the ND series, but I somehow missed it earlier), and the latest Nancy Drew game released, Alibi in Ashes.
Those games PALED in comparison to Brink.
The pace was perfect, the mini-games, of which there were plenty, were quite innovative and got progressively more difficult as the game went on, as they should.
The mini-games were challenging without being impossible. Thankfully, the HOGs were few and far between, and they were placed so well and strategically, that I actually looked forward to finding them, and I usually am NOT a fan of HOGs.
The storyline really matters in this game, and it is CREEPY! The antagonist in this game is wonderfully insane and a lot of fun to battle.
One word of caution: If you play the game and get to the end and you are offered the option to "Skip" a conversation with the bad guy, DON'T DO IT! Play the scene out.
I made that mistake and realized that everything was wrapped up in that scene and I missed it completely after playing for hours to get there! I had to start the game all over - which I happily did.
Well done, to the developers. I am a very picky gamer and I haven't found a game I liked this much since Siberia. I wholeheartedly recommend this game.
Oh, I almost forgot: the bonus game is an important part of the experience instead of being an afterthought. I really enjoyed the bonus game.
