I decided to delve into an off the beat game than my usual well known series of games I normally wait for with each release.
This game is a good game for beginners. It's HOs are well lit, no dark corners, and interactive. Some things were a little annoying like the HO scenes may have a popup on an object that won't be in the list of things to find until you return to the same HO scene again later.
But that builds memory skills. But I wish when I moused over them no comments since they aren't needed on the lists until you return.
I only played the demo, and got pretty far. There is a map and you can use it to jump from one scene to the next. No penalities for clicking willy nilly and somewhat bothersome only one mode of play, which means if you are just taking in the scenery for a moment things are going to get highlighted to let you know to click them.
Also, I did skip the tutorial since things are pretty straight forward in these type games. But things still got hightlighted or sparkled etc. And just a note, the cursor doesn't always change to a magnifying glass on purpose so click everything when searching for clues, you might miss something you will have to come back to later.
It is a fun game, the mystery is interesting, and worth a game club credit if you are tired of very long games, with too many rewards and not enough gameplay like most of my fav. series CE games of late. The only things some may not like is the repeat of the same HO scenes but I don't mind that since things are added to the new lists.
I recommend this game!

I was skeptical when I tried the trial version of the standard game. Since I had played "Sleepy Hollow' by EGames a few years ago, I was doubtful I would enjoy another Sleepy Hollow HO.
But I was surprised. This game is a little on the easy side and only has two modes and I must admit I did have to use a hint or two to figure out what it was I needed to combine in inventory in a few places.
The puzzles are fun and I played this game twice so far. They aren't hard and very easy to figure out what you need to do without asking the 'help' button.
There are a good dose of HOS in this game and I really loved the depth of those scenes and sometimes just lingered in them to take in the view.
I played through twice because the first time around though I collected about 56 of those little horseshoe rewards I didn't have enough to 'buy' everything in the end. A fun challenge to try to find them all.
This game is more intune with the movie Sleepy Hollow as far as the characters and look alikes #sort of# actors that stared in Tim Burden's Sleepy Hollow. I thought the judge certaintly did favor Christopher Lee from that movie. Or at least the character type in the mind of Tim Burden.
There isn't a map, but you won't need one, since you will have to back track to previous scenes to finish up some scenes or to find a new object that wasn't there before.
Great Fun! You won't get lost! I don't always use maps and since this game blocks off most areas once you are really finished with them then it's not necessary.
I was pleasantly surprised by this game and all the HOS and many are interactive.
Really liked it!
Buy it, it's worth the standard version price, I wish I had gotten the CE if it had more gameplay, as I didn't want it to end.
Great game!
I recommend this game!

I tried the trial first and though the graphics aren't spectacular, I wanted to purchase to continue. I was thrilled after playing for a few hours that a new version was already out. Those new features that tone down fires, and fix some problems within the game were just what I was looking for when looking for a patch!! Thank you!!
It is truily a great strategy game. The secret is not to build up your houses or have too many too fast when doing the challenges. Build all the things you will need as you get money build advanced farms/pig farms/flax etc. in advance. That way you will have plenty of the needed comodity 'before' you ever improve your houses. And will have excess to sell. Stopping production on some items causes other items to be produced more. This is tricky but works.
It took me a few levels to figure this out. Hope this doesn't spoil it for others that like a learning curve. Consider the more people living in those improved houses uses more resources so it is important not to upgrade them too fast. But to build up your resources before hand.
In the new Sandbox mode, though it is very challenging you can build near the river and not play near the main road. This will not affect your game in the least. That way you can have a port, which is faster if you need money fast.
I was able to build to level 10 houses and have a bustling world but not without it's woes. Fires, there is a secret to this one. Make sure to have the right building near by all your areas of production and houses etc. The more the merrier, and a large army. The less you will have to deal with fires yourself. Loads of fun!
Figuring out which resources bring more money isn't too hard and or which ones you can sell without regretting it later.
I love this game! The only draw back and I wish it would be added in a patch, is the ability to turn the the map with the mouse. I need to sometimes see 'behind' buildings to make improvements of the streets. But when finished you wind up with a huge world, looking much like ancient Rome, and it was fun gettting there!!
I wanted to give the game five stars but I would have liked a little more indepth idea of how much water is needed, how many houses the wells actually help, though with improved roads all houses seem to have access to them, unless the game tells you they need a well, etc. I would have also liked the ablity to know if those people leaving my town were actually stealing my goods. Sometimes the haulers look like they just walked away with my stuff and didn't take it to the warehouses.
I would have liked a little more in the grahics area, but when zooming in it is quite pretty but bump mapping or something might have improved the people or the buildings a little. But I can see how better graphics with all that is going on, would have increased the specs. too much.
Great way to pass several hours!!!
I recommend this game!

I tried the trial game and thought o.k. this might be fun to expand the town, and of course bought it once it was a deep discount sale.
I found this game to need many improvements. One, you can't turn the lots they only face one direction, unlike most city builder games where you can turn lots facing the roads etc.
Also, many houses are only filled with one or two residents that never marry etc. O.k. you have very limited map space so this takes up more room. Also, the farms are huge and only employee one person and only feed ten. The goal is to grow your town to 200 people but with a farm only feeding ten of them and only one employee you can imagine how much space is used up by farms every ten people in the town. It would have been better to hire more on the farms.
Unlike the municipal buildings like the town hall, or the schools, the businesses also only hire one person or no more than 2..waitress/cook etc.
This would have been better to have 'improved' these buildings as time went on and you gained expertise and they only accomidate 3 houses whether that is vertical or horizonal in position near them..only three.
Again this takes up a huge amount of space. If you build a house say between two others it may not have access to one of the businesses since they only accomidate the three closest ones.
Flowers and shrubs aren't unlockable until late in the game and since you have already placed roads for your houses there isn't any place to plop down decorations unless you start erasing houses and streets to accomidate these new features then there will be the having to erase and rebuild the businesses again.
I found it lacking on many levels, worth the very cheap price the other day just to try to get to 200 residents but by that time you have run out of room since most houses only house 1 or two people. Some have families as big as five or six but not many. And No multi family homes, either.
Also, once you reach 200 residents they aren't capped off. After that, the game requires you make everyone happy, that is impossilbe it seems since they keep coming and are homless and jobless..no more space to place bldgs. and if you are a good builder then you only hurt yourself in the long run if everyone has access to businesses and government bldgs then there are no more jobs to be had, since the businessess are built by the residents on demand or need. And if you increase #3# the employeess at schools and police depts. then this cuts down on the residents needing anything in the area but job. Which they aren't going to build anything since they have access to everything if you build it right but may have several unemployeed sad people or several homeless not only due to a lack of space to continue.
You can't lose an election no matter how close, I tried.
Even the old game Mall Tycoon allowed players to turn the houses or businesses in 360 degree direction which would save a great deal of space in this game. It was fun but needs improved on round two, if there is one.
I don't recommend this game.

Though I really liked the story line, and the detached heads in jars, muhahha, I was very disappointed there were not any HO scenes in this game.
The puzzles were interesting but I found them to be too easy for me. I played this game on the second choice because I don't like to have sparkles show me where things are in games, but may need a hint now and then, and it was just too easy.
An enjoyable game, but the extra bonus did not include extra game play unless I missed it. And to be honest if there was anymore bonus gameplay in the bonus of the CE, I probably would have skipped it anyway.
A good game, since everything is almost in a linear Adventure type format, but I thought it would contain HO scenes and so I gave it a four because it didn't.
I recommend this game!

This is a pretty straight forward Adventure HO Game. I liked the logical attributes of this game. Though some scenes have muted color and depth I thought this game was a great mental challenge, especially concerning replacing items back into scenes with their respective objects. I enjoyed the HOS because I like when there is a lot of stuff to sort through.
I have to admit there was a time or two I had to hit the hint button because I just didn't see or make the connection of an object in the inventory with an object in the scene to corrospond with the other object when placing objects back into a scene.
For that, I gave it a five star rating. Simply because I thought it was extremely clever to associate an octopus with an ink well in one scene, and there are many other examples. I thought if one plays this game in expert mode may have to use that gray matter just like in large file Adventure games that don't supply hints and sparkles and one must rely on their eyes and wit.
As far as the story, I was a little disappointed but I really enjoyed the straight forward journal which was straigt to the point when explaining notes and letters found.
I only got to play the trial version and though I had chosen to play in Expert Mode, I still had fast filled hint slots, and sparkles on all items except when trying to match one object to another in the HO scenes.
All in all, a good game if you play it in another mode besides 'casual'. You will have to think a little.
Though no map, I don't mind back tracking in games because that builds great memory skills.
I did like the Hint, if needed, would state there was nothing left to do in that scene at the moment so If I felt a little frustrated I could move on to the next scene.
Good game, I recommend buing it.
I recommend this game!

Sometimes, I like to take a break from large file Adventure games and just play a TM game. I found this game to be fun, not too difficult but sometimes very challenging and played it several different ways several different times.
After playing several different ways, I found if you click on the map area while your little sim is selected you can pick him up and just put him back at the starting point back and forth etc.
By doing this you can speed up his long walk back to Town Hall and beat the clock in the TM quests that appear often in the game. It sure shortens the time needed to carry the goods back to Town Hall.
I really enjoyed having to blast the pirates, and was a little disappointed that there wasn't more of those senarios to do. Made for a great break in just grinding to gain research or resources. Replayed those several times, too. Loads of laughs!
I would like to see a sequel expansion to this game, maybe they could have actual kids in the game in a later version, and have to build more rooms and more resources to keep up with the population.
One thing I found disappointing was 8 people could live in a 3 room house. I was hoping it would be a requirement that each must have a room making it more challenging to add them a room, too. I think that would add to the challenge level and that not all would work until they acutally got a room, too. You start with 5 that stay in a 3 room house..I think they should have made that a little harder.
Each time I finished the game, I kept wishing the world was expanded and they have children and keep growing so if a game leaves you wanting more in the end then it is a very good game! As they say in showbiz, 'always leave them wanting more!"
I certaintly recommend this game for those that like TM games, and the Casual game genre.
I recommend this game!

I am a player that plays all my games in an expert mode or something similar. I played this game in the more advanced mode. I don't normally like games where the hidden objects are very small and hard to find straining my eyes. This game I feared would be at that level. However, the story and the many, many scenes and back tracking that had to be done in this game was a nice surprise! I really enjoyed the common sense of how to solve problems in the game with specific objects.
I just loved how I was taken from scene to another in linear format, then rushed back to a previous scene to begin another level if needed because there were things there I knew that had been left undone and would need solved later. I don't like 'demons' in my games, must every new character be a 'demon'? but findig out the true identity of this person was a total surprise! The mini puzzles were challenging and I loved it!
I recommend this game!
