I am an 'oldie' who was around for the start of the MCF line-up. They were by far the most innovative and immersive games for their time. As time progressed, so did the games. Unfortunately, BF passed on the torch to other developers, who inevitably 'morphed' the brand into something else, and they are now almost in line with the rest of the cookie cutter games offered the past few years.
I still give three stars, as the HOS scenes are a step up from most others, and the mini games, although extremely easier than MCF games of the past, are still a step up from what is offered today.
The characters and storyline leave much to be desired.
For those who never played the great MCF games of the past, you may enjoy this offering. Again, it is an 'ok' game for these times, when devs seem to be spewing out the same mundane games.
For other die hard MCF fans, you will try the demo with a glimmer of hope, as I did, but for me, this one did disappoint.
As always, I suggest you try before you buy!
Happy gaming Fishies! And to my neighbours to the south, Happy Thanksgiving!
I recommend this game!

I love griddler/picross games. I tend to go for the more challenging offerings, but enjoyed this one for some light enjoyment, when I have a bit of time to fill. I really enjoyed the fun facts which are offered at the completion of each puzzle. The graphics were good and the music was okay.
The deal breaker for me in all griddler/picross games is when you are forced to make a guess, as there are two possible solutions to complete a game. I came across this situation twice in the demo. This leads me to assume I may come across more as I got further into the game. It is for this reason that I will not be purchasing this game.
If you are a beginner at these games, or don't mind having to make a guess once in a while, this is a good option for you.
Here are two picross games which I own, and find quite challenging:
--> Asian Riddles (#3 and #4)
*very challenging; logic based solutions.
--> Picross Fairytale: Legend of the Mermaid
*very challenging; logic based solutions; if you make a mistake, it does not tell you right away... you have to 'check for mistakes', which cost you some of your accumulated points. It is monochromatic. It does not display the number of 'cells' if you drag the cursor. I used to do these types of puzzles in old paperback puzzles years ago, with pencil and eraser. This game (Picross Fairytale) is the closest you can get to that... no bells and whistles... just a challenging puzzle (mind calisthenics!).
As always, I recommend that you try before you buy.

To complain and say that this installment was nowhere near classic MCF is an understatement! At this point, I really do not expect Eipix to be able to put out a good MCF game. But for the sake of honoring the brilliance of the past games, I try the demos each time.
So if I review this game on the premise that it is NOT an MCF game, I still have to give it 2 stars:
What I liked (and why I feel it earned 2 stars):
- some of the mini-games were a bit of a challenge
- a couple of HOS were enjoyable
- points for pseudo creepy atmosphere
What I didn't like:
- too much back and forth for 'pieces parts'
- having to find tools which I had in my inventory just a few scenes before, or not being able to use items intuitively.
- Collection and Morph items on each page which are impossible to miss - these do not pose any challenge at all, and therefore should not be included in CE play description.
- the ANNOYING watch gadget which served no purpose other than to show you an area of interest... which is the exact same purpose as your cursor changing to a magnifying glass in regular game play.
- there seemed to be a lag between screens. I don't know if it is a tech problem on my part, but I don't usually have any problems in that regard.
Note: There are some mini-games which have multiple tasks strung together, which some hail as 'Rube Goldberg' puzzles. Although fun to solve, they are not the complex RG door puzzles of MCF games past.
This is not a horrible game, but I enjoy a more immersive, challenging game. Unfortunately, out of the 20 MCF games, this will be the 6th that I will not be purchasing.
As always, I recommend you try before you buy.

Love me a good challenging Picross game. And this one is great! Reminds me of the old fashioned picross puzzles I first encountered in the back of my variety puzzle magazines. A lot of erasing and re-blocking out the squares. These puzzles were few and far between, but I loved the challenge. I was so happy to see them being created as pc games.
I have completed 15 levels so far, and DID NOT HAVE TO GUESS ONCE!!! Yes, some are very challenging, and you have to search for that one square which will get you solving again, but as I must repeat... they have all been solvable logically!
I have 8272 coins, enough for around 9 hints, but I have used NO HINTS so far, and I have solved 15 levels.
I wish that some reviewers would not put 1 star based on having to guess, when that is not the case, because it may deter other gamers from even trying the demo. Not fair to the devs.
One reason I did not give 5 stars is because of the lack of the square counting feature (numbering the squares as you drag your cursor). The music was passable, and the storyline does not interest me, but I can turn down the volume and zip past the storyline. I am just very happy that it is a true picross, with a high level of challenge.
Seaserpent606 and JulieJay... agree with your reviews...enjoy the game!! :)
To all others... I would suggest you try it out if you like a straightforward picross!!
Happy gaming Fishies!!!

Pros:
I loved this game! I played the demo in 'Brain Heat' mode, where the numbers are not crossed off automatically, and you can make mistakes, and have to figure out where they are on your own! When I first found 'picross' puzzles in my puzzle magazines, I sometimes went through the thin paper from erasing so much (lol); sometimes you had to start over to figure out where you went wrong! But that was the challenge, and for me, the fun!
Also, so far in the demo, all puzzles I encountered were solvable with pure logic (no guessing involved). I hope that carries through in the full game.
Cons:
Would have been a 5 star rating, but I found it challenging to differentiate between colours on some levels.
This will be a definite purchase for me.
If you are a big fan of the penguin mosaics, you may not like this one, but I would always encourage you to try it (there are easier modes, which is another plus, but the option to try harder levels brings up this game's value IMHO).
Happy gaming Fishies!!
I recommend this game!

- I could get past the cartoon-like animation... just a different style.
- The voices/dialogue were not in sync with the times (when her brother is being kidnapped, Arabella calls the unknown kidnapper a 'creep'... seemed like a 20th century thing to say).
- A lot of back and forth between scenes, which again, I could forgive if the game play was immersive.
--- My biggest beef is with the amount of 'Pieces Parts' which you need to collect and use just in the demo. As Lunanik mentioned, she found 24 in just the first 3 scenes. I went the whole 7 scenes of the demo, and counted 41 pieces to be collected and placed into a keyhole, slot, etc. To add insult to injury, the last HOS was actually a FROG..... Yes... more Pieces Parts to collect (approx. 15 pieces), just to create the 'Lord Symbol' to gain access to the throne room.
One positive... there was a great mini- game (sliding squares around a board) which was, although not extremely difficult, at least a bit unique compared to most of the mg's usually presented.
As always, I suggest you try before you buy!

I have been playing these types of puzzles since I first found them in puzzle books (paper and pencil!). Was glad to find PC versions.
This game was okay, but not for me for the following 2 reasons:
1. As others have stated, the paintbrush attached to the cursor is very distracting, and I don't see what purpose it serves, other than a reminder of what colour you are currently playing).. I tried to change it out in the options menu ("Custom cursor on or off") but that didn't get rid of it.
2. Blank spaces are automatically filled in when you finish a column or row. I find that this feature should be optional, as is the crossing off of the numbers. In my opinion, it makes the game way too easy.
For those two reasons, it is a no buy for me.
I gave it a 3 rating because it has some features which other similar games do not have (power ups, bombs) that some people may like.
Games in this genre which I like for the challenge:
World Mosaics (1-8 and Chroma)
Asian Riddles (1-4)
As always... I suggest you try the demos before you buy.
Happy Gaming Fishies!!

I loved the demo... over too soon!
If you like the old fashioned mosaic puzzles like you used to find in pharmacy puzzle books, you will like this game.
What I liked:
- No colours or storyline, just puzzle.
- empty squares were NOT filled in, which I prefer (more challenge)
- all puzzles I encountered in the demo were solvable logically, with some challenge even at level 10!
- Very reminiscent of original games of this sort: World Mosaic (I have them all) and Asian Riddles.
I am glad I did not pass this up due to the low rating. I understand if it is not to everyone's liking, especially those who prefer Fantasy Mosaics with all the options (I have a couple of those too).
Please give this one a try. If you like the puzzle aspect of these mosaic games, then I am sure you will be glad you did!

Very surprised at the high reviews/ratings. I'm giving it a 3 overall. Here is why...
Hit:
Graphics were great
Lots of collectibles and a morph in each scene
Very good map, which also indicates collectibles
Interesting story, with a bit of a cliffhanger at the end of the demo.
Miss:
TOO many cuts-scenes, pop-ups and banners! This just kills the game-flow, which is very key for me. I want to be able to get immersed in a game, not interrupted.
Some illogical tasks and use of items. This frustrates me, and therefore interrupts game-play.
Mini-games sided on easy to ridiculously easy. The 'puzzle' in the demo, as one example, when you pick up a piece, it automatically flips to the 'right-side-up' position. Another is the 'Simon Says' fight scene, which is so slow, it contradicts the intense music in the background.
This is a pass for me, but as always, I suggest you try before you buy.
Happy gaming Fishies!

I am so glad I tried the demo! This was a very pleasant surprise.
Many of the previous good reviews did a great description of why this is a GREAT game. Here are my points/thoughts on this game:

- No 'bells and whistles' for a change (i.e. collectibles, morphs, glitters, helpers): At first I thought I would miss them, but it actually allowed me to be immersed in the game. Very reminiscent of an older game (not a bad thing!)
- 2 levels of difficulty (which you CAN change during the game): In CASUAL mode (great for beginners), there are eye icons to indicate the areas of interest, and they give hints of what is needed.
In ADVANCED mode, there are no obvious indicators, but the cursor does change to a hand or magnifying glass if there is something to be done. There are few hints as to what is needed, and that 'allows' you to figure it out on your own.
- Logical use of items (VERY important to me!) / Intuitive game play.
- great creepy music
- nice clear graphics
- I did not experience any technical issues that some had. Could be that the issues have been fixed at this time.
- SE price!!!
I do recommend that you try the demo.
Happy gaming!
