I didn't even make it through until the end of the demo before I deleted it. As mentioned by another reviewer, when the game starts with the carriage crashing and with you dangling by one hand off a cliff, you know you've played this game before. The two HOPs I played were both of the "list" variety with no creativity or any challenge. And you switched several times from Gabriel to Sabrina and back again so that you could hardly follow the storyline. I was sooooo bored and kept feeling like I've played this game before. So it's a "no-go" for me. As always, try the demo before purchasing to see what your opinion is before shelling out the dough.
There were only 3 HOP's in the demo, but they were all "lists" with minimal interaction. There were also only 6 main games which were all "super easy." The only game that took a bit of time was the one where you have to swap pieces of a picture to complete the picture and only some of the pieces are available at one time. The only interesting feature of the game were the collectable phoenix's which were somewhat difficult to locate on each scene.
Although the scenes and HOP's were admittedly beautiful, the game was too easy with a story line that's been done too many times before.
Overall, I don't think it's worth paying the CE price.
However, feel free to play the demo and decide for yourself.
Based on the completed demo, this is a game that I'm ready to buy. Fun new HOP's and morphing objects that are actually difficult to find make this a great entry into the Hidden Objects genre.
So far the games are fairly easy, but the HOP's make up for that lack in their originality. I especially enjoyed the HOP where you have to find objects that are circled on 3 child's drawings.
Overall, I enjoyed it quite a lot. However, be sure to try the demo for yourself before deciding whether it's a purchase for you.
I've always bought these games and found them great fun, but this one is going to be a "no buy" for me. Maybe it's the lack of Sam, as another reviewer mentioned. Maybe it's the "annoying" HOP's (couldn't find that domino for the life of me) or the "stupid" fact cards (really, a definition of "heraldry"). But, whatever the issue, I didn't find this game nearly as much fun as they used to be.
Be sure to try before you buy in case you feel the same.
I ended up purchasing this game after spending the entire 60 minutes of the demo solving puzzles. At first, I too was stymied by my assumption that this game was like the penguin one. However, this one is much more difficult than that one because you aren't given the boxes that each color will be placed in (which can make the penguin ones VERY easy to finish, IMHO). Instead, each line or column will have numbers in each of 3 different colors and it's up to you to determine just where those colors are to be filled in on each column or line.
What helps you fill in the colors is a bit of logic. For example, if the leftmost column shows only numbers in red and the bottom 5 lines shows the leftmost number in green, than you know that you can "x" out those boxes since you would only be able to start the line with a red color. In addition, if two numbers in the same color are listed next to each other, there will obviously be at least one "space" between those colors.
In this way, you can gradually fill in the lines and columns until you have a complete picture.
Since I can complete the penguin puzzles in 3-8 minutes each, I found these puzzles much more satisfying as they could take upwards of 20 minutes to an hour to finish.
If you enjoy this type of game, be sure to give this one a try if you want a more challenging experience than usual.
First thing I noticed: No map! So lots of going back and forth trying to figure out what you're supposed to do next.
HOP'S: Same old Hop's with morphing objects to locate.
Story line: Same old story of two countries at war who want to end the war, but you get "tricked" into causing the other country to lose all their "magic" so that a person who was exiled from that country can get their revenge.
Haven't we seen this story before?
I generally have enjoyed the games in this series, but this time it just seemed like the "same old game" that we've played before WITHOUT a map......sheesh.
I was ready to shoot the Chinese guy by the end of the demo

Can anybody say "annoying?" The constant "Get a move on, little carp" or "I'm watching you WITH my GUN." AWFUL!!! I was sooooo ready to just get rid of the guy by the end of the demo that I doubt I'll get this game. I've bought all the other Hidden Expedition games so you know this one's a "loser." Specifically, very annoying that you have to open up the "fact box" just to look at the map. Takes too long to do that very often. The guide was incorrect on how to solve the "cherry token" game. Finally figured it out on my own. Games fairly easy, at least in the demo. Just needed help with the "cherry tokens" game because I didn't realize you had to get the buttons below set up BEFORE selecting the tokens at the top.
I reviewed the "beta" version of this game and not much has been changed from that version. I complained about the "slowness" of the ball on the "labyrinth" on the door for the beta and it hasn't been improved much, if any. Also, the "games" are wayyyyy too easy which was a complaint with the beta as well. The HOP's are also wayyyyy toooooo easy. And my main complaint is the story. Why, if Owen has an amulet that will let him go past the barriers does he need your help in the FIRST PLACE!!!
Anyway, NOT going to purchase this one.
I don't recommend this game.

Only made it 15 min. through the demo and then uninstalled the game. Cursor was VERY slow and no way to make it smaller/faster. Dialogue was ATROCIOUS; Music was ANNOYING; Storyline was SILLY (really, a cop by day and then some kind of thief at night--just WHEN would she EVER sleep!!!) Made it through a couple of HOG's where you absolutely HAD to use the "zoom in" feature to be able to see some of the smaller objects. Got to the room with the husband and then decided that would be enough of this game. Definitely NOT a buy for me.
If you like games with just HOP's, then you may like this game. There is also minimal retracing your steps to get a key and then put it in the lock to open the shed, for example. The hint is only good in the HOP's so doesn't tell you where you need to go to in order to complete a task. Also, I was only able to locate a few of the "diary" pages and they weren't in order so no idea if that helps the story line. The "monologue" is completely written and the music is terribly annoying after just a few seconds, had to turn it completely off. Main annoyance for me was that you couldn't click outside of the pop-up windows to close them. You had to click on the "x" to get it to close. Warning: the hidden objects are sometimes hard to find and you will HAVE to use the magnifying glass to find them. I also frequently resorted to using the "dog" hint to find the last object just to be done with that screen. I was able to get thru the entire demo, but won't even use a free game coupon for this game. It's a NO from me.
