I was enjoying the Mac version of the game until it failed at level 16. There was no way to get rid of one set of bandits so the game stalled. Very disappointing.
Game play is constantly being interrupted by hint popups and the need to go to tabs to progress. These two main factors kept me from enjoying this game. They keep interrupting the flow. On top of that the music is awful so had to be turned off.
I'm not sure why I struggled with this game. This usually is my favorite genre and I play excitedly. But not with this game. I would play a few levels and quit. I did make it through all levels eventually. Still can't put my finger on why I wasn't satisfied with the game play. Yes, the screen was full of clutter that served no purpose other than making it difficult to clearly find the goals ... and that stupid animal running around taking resources with no rhyme or reason.
Based on the trial hour only. The graphics and story were very good and I enjoyed that part of the game. However, the game play was tedious. All that hunting for well hidden objects and then topped off with Mahjong. The mini games were equally unexciting. I strongly recommend you play the game before purchasing.
Other reviewers have written about the hidden puzzle pieces, pop-up text boxes, and distracting blue arrows so I will mention my emotion response to this game.
It felt hectic even in relaxed mode. I play games for the enjoyment. With the constant distractions popping up I couldn't get into any kind of rhythm or follow through on my original strategy.
Very disappointing as I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the previous games in the series.
I had fun playing this game. Yes, it was easy. Yes, the characters move slowly at first (until you earn the means to buy bonuses). Yes, it's not quite as good and #7. But it has one thing going for it that I really appreciate ... the levels load faster than previous games in the series. Now if the developer would just add a "replay" button when the level is completed rather then having to go through the map to reload the level. All that nitpicking aside, bottom line -- game gave me a pleasant afternoon and if you like a relaxing TM game this one is for you as well.
Dull and easy game. Every level was the same. First you had to collect wood & food to get second worker. Then you just ran around picking stuff up ... rarely needed to upgrade any building. Did have to replay a few levels when I opened up areas in the wrong order (example, lit wrong torch). I have no idea why this is considered a Collector's Edition ... no strategy guide (not needed), no extra levels. I feel like BF let me down big time. This developer is off my purchase list.

Yes, the game had no challenge ... I had to redo only 2 levels to get 3 stars. Restarted a few when I used resources in the wrong order. Yes, graphics are small ... luckily I have 27" monitor or would not have found all 59 critters ... unfortunately there is no indication if you found it or not so seems like a pointless exercise. (Note to Me-Too-2: on level 49 it's in the very bottom center above hammer icon). As I played the game I was baffled why it was a Collector's Edition. Finding critters didn't make it a CE for me. And the EXTRAS were Music & Concept Art. After finishing the original 49 levels a new area opened up with an additional 10 levels. AH HA moment. All that being said, I had a delightful time playing the game. Sometimes one needs a break from the head banging challenges of other TM games.

I'm writing this review after playing this game for the second time with a significant time gap so it played as "new."
Had to restart some levels because I ran out of resources to continue. Fortunately this would happen early in the level so it wasn't onerous to restart.
Gameplay was thoroughly covered by previous reviewer ... just wanted to add my two cents.
