The residents of Bitterford, Maine have fallen prey to a terrible curse. It’s up to you to unravel the series of mysterious events that led to the town’s downfall and uncover the evil that was responsible.
as others, i was also disappointed with the standard and mistakes in this game. i played the standard edition as i was warned that the collectors one is not worth it. i made a good decision. the game had a couple of new or relatively new features and i "enjoyed" those scary moments in there, despite i hate when they occur elsewhere, such as on youtube with michael jackson` ghost. i truly hate those but they were a good detail for this game. scenes were rather boring in comparison to the previous mcf games. there was a mistake in the letter about the drowned woman: she was found missing on 15 of august and they started to search for her the next day on the morning: on 15 of august... when i finished the game, there were still some items in my itinerary and when the cast (credist) came on, they were inescapable. not key worked to skip it, i could only to wait till the end to have easy access on this forum to post my review, or quit the whole game and search this forum manually on the website. annoying.
this game definitely did not meet my expectations, which were low anyway after reading the reviews here prior the purchase. only because it was on offer i decided to buy it and make my own opinion about it. i agree with others here.
developers, please, try harder next time or do not bother at all.
i must say that the graphic are just beautiful and scenic. the cursor sometimes needs to be exactly at a certain place to achieve the action. also the logic with using drill on the canal cover was a bit strange to me, but ok. based on the demo - for me it is a definite buy.
i have played all the previous games of this series and i liked them quite a lot, including this one. the music that is typical for this game made me feel a bit like deja-vu.
the level of challenge is quite average, not too challenging and after a while it becomes predictable what is expected... no twists, just a repeated scenario in different scenes and with different persons in the story...
i quite like the voices, they sound very authentic though they talk a bit slowly. i think i will purchase the SE. i am happy that i do not have to go through numerous HOGs.
looking at the size, below 100 Mb i was not sure about what to expect. and after reading other reviews with complaints about this and that i must say that the game is great on its size.
the HO parts had few items that were difficult to find, but as i mostly click randomly and select items that i expect would be the ones, i often found items by random and needed to press the hint only once - at the end. sometimes no hint was needed at all.
one complained that he/she did not know what to do and that the hints were not very helpful. i found this game pretty intuitive. the graphics were not too demanding, but they were nicely made with a good feeling of art.
the demons are really like demons and i enjoy these, too.
i really love the gentle tones of piano that vary with items found. once i found about 6 of them in one row and it was a pleasure to listen to the tones. a nice balance to the doomy atmosphere.
the voice is not too annoying as someone has said. sometimes she repeats the phrases when i click repeatedly, but it is just a minor thing to me.
what else... yes, i only played a demo and feel pretty much for purchasing the game, but someone said that the game is short and he/she was able to finish it in about 2 hours. i do not want to spend my money for just 2 hours of play - expecting to reach similar time as i do not have major problems with this game.
the puzzles are very easy, but i prefer easy ones than too difficult ones that i need to skip as i do not have patience or time while playing just the demo and also because want to see further whether the game is worth to buy.
when rating the second factor: visual/sound quality, i think these two should be separate. sound quality is too good in comparison to the visual (except of the animations which are quite good as well).
generally: i enjoyed to play the demo and i would recommend it for people of similar taste for horrors as i have.
Return once more to the haunted grounds of Ravenhearst Manor to uncover new details about this poignant saga. What you find could very well be the final chapter of this riveting story-if you escape.
After reading lots of negative feedback and after a pleasurable experience of previous MCF games (except of the first Ravenhearst, which was just about searching objects and assembling pictures with parts of the story, i.e. boooooring!), I have decided to try this new one. I like thrillers, but not with too much blood. The demo appears a bit different from what I can expect in a full version. This game does not appear to be boring. It has a bit higher level of challenge than other games of this kind, which at some points is a bit frustrating, but this may be just my fault :) The game has excellent graphics and a good level of surprising appearances of ghosts. I have decided to purchase a full version and hopefully I will not regret it. The changing objects are not too new to me (I have experienced these from a basic full version of other game - Sacra terra: Angelic night, so-called beyond objects) and I enjoyed searching them in addition to normal tasks. I like creepy games in contrast to sweet fairy-tale ones, I loved Dire Grove the most of all others so far, so I expect this will be just another one of their kind. The cons of this will be that it will set the level too hight and other games may not appear that perfect to me anymore :)
