I was so disappointed to find out that Vast Studios is no longer around because I enjoyed their Nightfall Mysteries series so much. I had bought the first two Dark Canvas games years ago but had not gotten around to playing them until recently. The studio had so much promise!
Interestingly, playing these games as a former dedicated HOG fan was going back in time when games were uncomplicated and didn't preoccupy themselves with gimmicks like achievements. The humour in the game ("two wrongs don't make a right!") reminds me a lot of earlier MCF games and I really feel like Nightfall Mysteries and Dark Canvas are cousins to Return to Ravenhearst era games.
The game has gorgeous, engaging scenes, pleasant music for the games and a storyline that isn't too predictable. I really felt that the artwork made the game.
The mini puzzles were also challenging and there were quite a few HOGs. There are no super puzzles to defeat (whew) and I thought it was really intriguing that a picture drew while diary entries are read out loud. One thing that isn't apparent in this series is that sometimes you need to go back to a previous HOG to collect an object, so keep checking the map for your objectives.
I recommend this game!

I bought this game some time ago and got around to playing it. The graphics are pretty meh and even with my good eyesight, hard to see the pieces. Basically you work back and forth between different screens to collect pieces that have been mostly broken up into fragments. I just didn't find it interesting enough to get through the second level.
I don't recommend this game.

I wasn't really sure about Eipix games after playing one of their earlier releases, but as with the previous HE to this title, they really stepped up the quality with an intriguing storyline, beautiful scenes, complementary music plus challenging puzzles and HOPs.
My only quibble is that sometimes you can have the right combination of items or the secret code paper, but if you don't put it *exactly* together right in the right spot on the screen, you'll get a clunk. The mapping is pretty precise.
Also, the title of the game doesn't really match the plot...but no biggie!
I recommend this game!

I have to admit my first reaction upon seeing the Eipix intro was "Oh no!!" I played Key to Ravenhearst and thought I was in for another dud, but I was pleasantly surprised by how good the artwork and cinematics was along with the game play and music. It felt like it Eipix had a bigger budget available to them because it was such a well rounded game that was just the right length of time. I played on custom difficulty. The game really lives up to the Hidden Expedition franchise.
I recommend this game!

I think it's kind of sad that I enjoyed this game a lot more than Key to Ravenhearst. I purchased this game years ago and finally got around to playing it. The art is a little more cartoony than I normally go for, but the music was really pleasant and the puzzles very challenging on expert mode with a good variety. Although the storyline is pretty light, it's very whimsical and colourful, and it's a shame that there isn't a credit for the voice actor of the Baron, because he added a lot to the game.
Note that this game is a little buggy and some of the items that you collect may disappear. This happened to me, but I just restarted the game and finished on the second try.
I recommend this game!

I have been a fan of MCF from the very beginning and have played a lot of BFG games over the years. If I thought there was a poor game in the series before, it has to be better than Key to Ravenhearst.
I bought the Collector's Edition as I always do, but I wish I hadn't. There isn't much in the way of extras compared to previous CEs and it was a big letdown after Dire Grove, Sacred Grove, which had a bonus chapter, extra puzzles and an alternate ending.
Key to Ravenhearst is not well put together or thought out. There is barely any story to guide one - you just fumble around and find out what works. I had to constantly refer to the guide to figure out how to solve puzzles or what to do next. That's not my idea of a fun game.
The graphics quality was also poor. It's a very cheap looking game. Text was clumsily worded or placed within the game.
I don't recommend this game.
