A well balanced blend of HOG/Adventure with challenging puzzles all nicely wrapped up in a pleasant package made of a good intro, good music and superb graphics.
The HO Scenes are neat, the HOs not too difficult to find, the Hint System is helpful, and navigation is easy.
Although most tasks are common to those we see in other games they are good fun nevertheless.
I was looking for a CE to complete my Punch Card. There it is. I found it.
I recommend this game!

Oh yes, the intro and the music are good, the storyline is okay, the graphics are great and the puzzles seem interesting and challenging although I've already seen some of them elsewhere.
Nice wrapping for a game that lacks inventiveness. Taskswise, you don't do anything much different from what you do in many other games: repair electrical wires with a tape, break up a chain, dig up something with a shovel.... the usual routine.
But all this could be overlooked were it not for the HO Scenes. I do not like games that penalize you each and every 3 misclicks in HO Scenes, especially when some items are almost invisible, when you simply can't find them, with a Hint System that recharges very slowly.
Is it so difficult to produce a game with SOME amount of originality, without any tiny object, and offering what we all want: REAL FUN ?
I don't recommend this game.

I don't like games that penalize you each and every 3 misclicks in HO Scenes, especially when some items are nearly invisible.
I don't like games with a desperately slow Hint recharge rate, not that I want to rush through a game, no, but because looking for a HO and not being able to see it while the Hint System takes its time to get to full tends to get on my nerves.
Also I deplore that this particular game gives no information on the contents of the SG at all ! Even when playing the demo, you don't have access to it, not even to the first chapter !.
Three reasons for me to knock off 3 stars.
Tasks are not the main ingredient; all those I managed to perform before exiting the demo can be found in several other games. It's okay to repair electrical wires with a tape or break up a chain or digging up something with a shovel once in a while, but not everytime.
This game lacks inventiveness in this respect. Minus another star.
Quite a shame, still, because the intro is good, so is the music, the storyline okay, the graphics are great and the puzzles seem interesting and challenging although I've already seen some of them elsewhere. But taking a look at the walkthrough I noted that a few were original.
I guess it's a good game for HOG fans and gamers who have played very few casual games of like type, but it failed to arouse in me the slightest bit of interest and did not provide me with any fun.
I was contemplating buying the CE on BFG's special offer. Now I have no intent to get it nor the SE for that matter.
I don't recommend this game.

This was for me a blind purchase on the basis of the award the game got in 2009. Why on earth did they have to pick this one ? Just this one while far better games were released in 2009. It's terrible ! It's uninteresting ! It's irritating to the 10th power ! It's the game that forces you to make an appointment with your ophtalmologist ASAP.
I just wasted my $ 6.99 and was so put off I jumped off the train before Prague.
Just consider having to click on the very exact pixel to get the object you're looking for. One pixel too far and you don't get anything. That gives you an idea of the size of the objects in question.
But that's not all: not only are they microscopic, they are so opaque they disappear totally in the darkness of the background, a place of predilection from the developer's viewpoint, I suppose. Finding the 9 zodiac signs in the old pictures was one of the worst hassles I ever came across. Else you have to hunt I don't know how many fleas, spiders, and insects of all species and form. Marvelous !
And how annoying it is to have to find "item x 3 or 4" in every scene ! 10 chapters like this ! My Goodness !
What gets me too is why the developers had to draw a hero with such a crooked face; he is ugly, a true eyesore !
Quite a shame really because some puzzles are not without interest, the artwork isn't bad, traveling in a train not a bad idea -although there is a far better game based on this theme- and the story fairly interesting.
But, no I have only two eyes and I refuse to kill them chasing invisible Hidden Objects the size of an atom !
If you're like me, if you like having fun playing a game, stay away from this Serpent of Isis.
I don't recommend this game.

Although I am not a true fan of HOGs and I have a weakness for pure adventures - and the tougher the better - I surprised myself to find in this game a HOG that I liked.
The story is good and not devoid of humor, far from it; some parts are really funny.
It offers a nice feature: you explore different locations each with a different theme, and they all blend into something coherent at the end.
Add to that the fact that our little red-head [ie: Alexandra] doesn't leave the other hero of the story, Jay, indifferent, and you're set for some good time.
The graphics, depicting tropical sceneries, jungle locales, pyramids, buddhist temples, are quite nice though not oustanding and the music pleasant.
There is a multitude of objects to find; you don't have a list, but a set of drawings representing them. Lots of them have to be combined.
Tasks are multiple, a few of them are really funny [funny humoristic], and with 30 chapters - a record - you can be sure to have a good time, never get bored, and visit many locations.
You won't find a profusion of puzzles, yet just enough to tickle your interest, as the search-find-combine-use aspect of the game is a long puzzle in itself.
No major difficulty: hints are unlimited, you have a map showing your progress and minigames can be skipped.
An older game that should neither be overlooked nor ignored because it is much better than some new releases.
I recommend this game!

These four words sum it all up.
Unique, because it's the only one of this kind. I haven't seen a similar game elsewhere, which means that nobody copied it, cloned it or simply derived some amount of inspiration from it.
Unusual, because, here again, the concept, though basically simple, is equally unique as well as extremely inventive.
Funny, because it has a special sense of humor about it, something that delighted me much.
Cute, because those little sheep are, well.....just too cute. Play the demo, you will see.
This Brain Teaser is challenging enough to keep you busy a good while without driving you bonkers. In fact it's not very difficult.
Although the levels are not exactly identical, as each has its own course, it is true there is some amount of repetitiveness in the principle, the obstacles, and the overall layout of the board, if I may call it that.
I agree that variations would have been welcome, and extra levels necessary. I found the game a bit short. Or perhaps is it not short, and it's just old me grumbling because I love these little sheep and would have liked to play with them some more.
I hope there will be a sequel one day. If I had the developer's address I would write and ask for one.
I recommend this game!

Annabel, the very first game I purchased from BFG long ago, was, for me, an initiation to casual games, a refreshing change from the 3D hard core [not pornographic..!!! LOL] and more mature FPS games I was used to. I played it with great pleasure then, and replayed it recently with equal satisfaction.
Annabel is a search-and-find adventure, not a HOG. The items you need are scattered in different locations. There is plenty of tasks to accomplish and objects to find and combine,
You navigate from locale to locale using the arrow keys or your mouse, you can zoom in on a particular spot, and scroll to have the full screenshot.
Set in Ancient Egypt, the storyline is simple but effective.
There is nothing truly difficult in this game, although it will often challenge your wits. But if you think outside the box, use logic and common sense, as well as creativity, you will get to the end without much trouble. This, by the way, applies to any adventure game that is purely an adventure.
The artwork is quite good, the music nice, and the minigames/puzzles interesting yet not all that difficult. Since they all are classics, one could deplore their lack of innovation, but Annabel is not a new release. What was the norm when it came out might now be considered outdated as later games offer variants of classics or novelties as well as a few genuinely diabolical puzzles, sometimes for the better, but not always.
It is true that no puzzle can be skipped, but as I said, they are not tricky; a bit of patience and common sense are what it takes to solve them... and they all are solvable ! One good feature: they can be replayed via the main menu....just for the sake of pleasure or as a mental exercise.
Annabel is good fun to play. Due to its relative simplicity, it is also the perfect game to introduce players to adventure games, as a first step before tackling much tougher ones like Nancy Drew, the Art of Murder series, Syberia or any Large File Game.
I recommend this game!

If you've read BFG's presentation summary you have probably already added 2 and 2 together and have surmised the kidnapper was suffering from a mental disorder called DSG. He perpetrated this vile act in an attempt to retain or regain his youth, obsessed as he is by his own appearence. Hence the title of the game.
No ghosts, no skeleton, no grave, nothing paranormal, but expect nevertheless a few corpses here and there.
Sam's investigation starts with a very good intro movie backed up by a solid soundtrack. Later, the in-game music is discreet except when used to enhance a specific event. The cutscenes are of the same quality.
The voice-overs are perfect, very professional, highly natural, and a pleasure to listen to.
The graphics and scenery are quite good, a wee bit blurry, thus befitting the mildly spooky atmosphere succesfully.
Not at all overloaded with HOScenes, the game gives priority to the adventure side. Tasks are multiple and easy to accomplish with useful items also easy to get.
HOs are not difficult to find either as the scenes they're in do not look like awful junkpiles.
Assistance is provided efficiently by the unlimited hints that recharge fast, the clues on screen, the audio, and in the journal, together with a map showing your current location, the areas to explore and were the puzzles are.
Puzzlewise [and minigames] the developers did a good job; all those I played in the demo were fairly tricky, challenging and fairly uncommon. Some are randomized, I am not sure they all reset as I saw a Reset Button in only one, but you can skip them. Click on the Question Mark to get the instructions.
Unfortunately for puzzle lovers like me, the game is not packed with them, but there is enough of them to keep you busy and make you think.
Let's add to that 2 Modes of difficulty, a wide monitor option, and the possibility to replay the kidnapper's verbal comments via the journal.
The demo takes you to the beginning of Chapter 3 only, so it's difficult to estimate the gamelength, assess how well the storyline unfolds, and how interesting the CE's extras can be.
Considering that I got to the end of Chapter 2 in just over 56 mns after visiting 9 locales, it is possible the game may be shorter than expected.
Note: DSG: Dorian Gray Syndrome, named after Oscar Wilde's famous novel: The Portrait of Dorian Gray.
I recommend this game!

A bit better than the other two in the series, but totally unchallenging.
A very nice package with very little contents: great graphics, good music, professional voice-overs.
But... puzzles far too easy, too many Hidden Fragmented Objects Scenes, tasks similar to those you find in other games, low suspense, no challenge.
3 stars for the wrapping.

I guess the Dark Parables series isn't for me. I had only been mildly happy with the first one, Curse of the Briar Rose, positively disliked the Snow Queen and can't find any real interest in this Exiled Prince.
Besides it is much too similar to Macabre Mysteries: Curse of the Nightingale, which I reviewed and rated 2 stars, except that this one is slightly better.
I didn't see a nightingale in the former, but there are plenty of frogs in this one.
Other than that:
- the puzzles I saw in the demo are not devoid of originality, but they are dead easy to solve
- the tasks and actions are unimaginative and identical to those you can find in many other games
- there are too many HFOGs [Fragmented Objects] for me.
Nothing thrilling in all of this.
It seems this developer came up once with a fairly new recipe that they are now re-serving each time they release a new game, with the same basic ingredients but with a couple of changes in the seasoning, and each nicely presented on a different plate.
In other words, once you've played their first installment, you've played the rest of the series and the clone with it.
Of course, the artwork is splendid, the musical intro almost fantastic, the in-game music not bad and not disturbing.
But the wrapping of a present is not sufficient for me to like the contents when the said contents lack the essential.
Since I found it a bit better than the other games I already mentioned, I am awarding 3 stars to this Prince, in the hope that, some day, this developer offers us a truly enthralling adventure, full of suspense, challenge and novelties.
I don't recommend this game.
