The children's game teaches basic elements of chess. For $2.99, I'm enjoying it, too.
Chess is a wonderful game of strategy, concentration and depth. I learned the game years ago and became pretty good at it. (No more!) Actually, I'm old enough to remember the 1972 televised World Chess Championship match between Bobby Fischer and Boris Spassky. It had move by move commentary and I was transfixed.
Unfortunately, I didn't keep it up. Years later when I played against a computer, I was positively awful, after just few moves, checkmate! Disheartening. It's definitely not like riding a bicycle
Today's special caught my eye. I played the trial and bought it without hesitation. The colors, characters and music are light and cheerful with lots of encouragement for young players (and me!).. You win stars to improve your castle BUT make no mistake, it's a game for children, maybe four years and up
In the earliest very brief chapters you learn colors, shapes, vertical/horizontal. The sections are short and you move right along. You can see how it's cleverly teaching chess play later in the game.
I would highly recommend it to anyone with a young (and up) child. It is an excellent chess primer Kids are sponges and you'd be surprised how quickly they'll pick up chess. Skill develops he more you play.
Meanwhile I'm enjoying a $2.99 game which is reacquainting me with an old friend. It has whet my interest in more sophisticated lessons and game play..
This is good game so don't let the lack of clear instructions turn you off. Restarting a level once, occasionally twice, will make your objective and methods clear. "Oh, I get it"
The story line is a nice change from the usual TM plot. You are a damsel in distress betrothed to a terrible man to pay off a family debt. If you can raise enough money to pay off the scoundrel, you'll be free and clear. With a few resources to start and seed money from the sale of modest fishing boats, you can start a business repairing leaking hulls and tattered sails.
I'm early into the game but using upgrades I now have my own sailing ship and have moved on to Port Royal. Hints of trade in my new port of call and dark pirate sails on the horizon promise more adventures and challenges ahead.
Yes, I'm early into the game but I'm really enjoying it so far. Give it a try.
The legendary hero Hercules and his wife Megara are back, ready to embark on their next adventure! Restore the world's beauty and save Mother Nature from destruction!
biscuitsmama, you really made me laugh. I have a similar problem but I hate hidden object games because I spend half my day looking for things I've misplaced. LOL!
I enjoy all the Hercules games including this one. Loved seeing a TM game on a lazy Sunday.
I have played all the Nancy Drew games and continue to buy them hoping for one that recaptures their early greatness. Snookered again! The Shattered Medallion is BAD, BAD, BAD. Unbelievably so. The graphics are sub par, the game flow is confusing and choppy, the plot is incoherent and the dialogue is absolutely asinine. The Nancy Drew series has hit bottom with this muddled mess. It's awful.
I don't recommend this game.

This is a cute and colorful game with lots of variety, awards and power ups. You have the option to continue playing to complete a level when the timer runs out, a BIG plus. Game play, unfortunately, gives me pins and needles in my mouse hand. I've never had a game do this before so as much as I enjoy this cute, little game, it's a no buy.
I recommend this game but be sure to play the trial.
I recommend this game!

The "Winter Wonderland" series has always been a favorite this time of year. You join a sister and brother in their Christmas preparations: shopping, decorating, going to a Christmas tree farm, etc. and are presented with a HO scene every step of the way. An Advent calendar leads you through the levels. Yes, the field is crowded and some of the hidden objects are small but I don't let that bother me. Even though I play on "casual," I usually miss three or more objects on each level in the early stages. No big deal. I accept my limitations, use the hints and plow on! You do get better as the game progresses as you settle in and learn what to look for, which adds to the fun and satisfaction.
Lots to do here. Besides the usual HO list, you have to find hidden candy canes in each scene and, in this 5th of the series, objects related to "The Twelve Days of Christmas." The game's pretty long, has wonderfully jolly background music and is a nice mix of HO scenes and mini games such as spot the differences or find matching pairs, all with a Christmas theme. The game has great replay value, too, as the hidden objects change each time you play a scene. I find it delightfully relaxing this time of year and perfect if you need a little boost to get you into the Christmas spirit.
I recommend this game!

I'm a big fan of Archie and his pals going waaaaaay back, so the game looked like a wonderful trip down memory lane. The graphics gave me hope it was a ''life story'' type of game whcih I guess it is, but much too slow care about anyone's progress.. After cleaning up the town a bit during the tutorial, I settled in to play and found not a whole lot there. Tasks were things like ''bake a cake'' or ''eat candy'' with no visuals of the quest as the characters seem to just walk around randomly. When you start a quest, a ''spin the bottle'' wheel/game hits you in the face. I played it a couple of times before I realized each play it cost me a ''soda,'' the game's speed up currency. Now, it may be worth it to play the wheel, but I didn't realize I had an option . ''Uh oh,'' I thought, ''this one's going to be another money pit.'' It just didn't seems worth it to me to get involved.
I can't recommend the game, but please try it for yourself.

Thank you, BFG!
Our wizened hands, hollow eyes and parched lips have waited so long for an adventure game and Where Angels Cry looks like a good one. It has clear, sharp graphics, appropriate music and immersive game play. There is a nice, little tutorial that takes you through adventure style play for anyone new to the genre. The casual mode gives you sparkles and shorter hint intervals. It's a user friendly game. I haven't played the complete demo but so far I love it.
The premise: you are a monk in the thirteenth century. The Cardinal assigns you to help a monastery that is having an ominous problems with wolves. (Start your day with blood curdling howls!) So, I named myself Brother Leo, put on my robe and cross and headed out.on my horse into a light snowfall. On arrival at the gates my mouth was watering at the thought of the adventure ahead.
I love the freedom of adventure games like this one, the challenge of finding keys and clues, and solving some pretty good puzzles along the way. So far this one has all that.
Where Angels Cry looks like a buy but I have to get going with my day. I look forward to seeing the opinions of those who've finished the game on its length. Half way into the demo it looks great.
I recommend this game!

I played the demo earlier today. Very challenging but a lot of fun and totally engrossing. Quite a bit of time had passed when the light bulb finally went off for a solution to lever two. Level two! I stopped playing and wanted to see what others thought. Thanks for the great reviews. This will be a buy.
Just a tip if you aren't aware of ''The House of Goo.'' It's a fabulous logic, physics game with great graphics, funny little ''goo'' voices and gorgeous, almost epic music. Challenging but so much fun. You learn as you progress and become quite sophisticated in your solutions. There are videos of each level on Youtube if you get stuck, and I did a few times. Solutions were ingenious but doable. If you like this game, give it a look . It will keep you entertained for days.
