VB provides increasingly difficult levels of challenges as the game levels progress, NOT as so many games can do in just quicker deadline times for gold, but in increasingly intricate puzzles of time/material management to solve. I should note that at the upper levels additional goals are added after the first set (or even second set!) is achieved. I enjoyed this a great deal. Also, the developers note that playing with the custom courser could slow down game time. I was getting frustrated that I couldn't "click" on objects, after the switch, no problem.
Having just LOVED Royal Envoy I was eager to start RE 2. But it fails as a fun game in several ways. While RE is truly strategy, RE 2 is more click/click/click. An example: in RE you would give the worker a direction to DIG. He would do so and whatever number of wood or gold would appear in your total. In RE 2 you open a treasure chest or cut down a tree and STILL have to collect all the little pieces. It changes the whole thrust of the game from thinking about ways to use resources, to just blindly collecting resources. Not fun. While playing RE through to gold on both levels, I trashed can this after Level 4.
I read the reviews and looked at the video and thought the graphics looked like fun. I wasn't too concerned about the game being "short" or just an introduction to Part 2. But the game just did not work. I started out on the more difficult level, then went back to play at the basic. Didn't matter. Following the clues didn't result in forward movement. I use my Free Games to try different games than I would ordinarily get. This wasn't a successful try.
A new breed of virus has spread throughout the City of Oxford. You must search the city for a missing girl who holds the key to stopping the global epidemic!
When checking out the reviews on this game I was caught by the comments that the HOS were really puzzles to be solved rather than just finding random objects. I can't tell you how MUCH fun this made the game. And everything in the HOS site looked as if it should have/could have really been there! The cut scenes and graphics were great and really pulled the storyline along without slowing anything down. The manual for notes was extremely well done & helpful. I wish the map had been interactive so that I could have jumped sites, but that is a small quibble. I found the "Behind the Scenes" feature in the Extras about how the game was developed to be Fascinating!! Do get this game! OH, and I almost forgot: the player gets to customize the degree of difficulty. Too super.
Return once more to the haunted grounds of Ravenhearst Manor to uncover new details about this poignant saga. What you find could very well be the final chapter of this riveting story-if you escape.
I just love MCF and was so eager for this game. But-- the graphics are graphic -- in a bad way. The story line doesn't catch one up. boo hoo bad guy Hated the morphing object find. There is nothing clever about this. The puzzles -- which have always been my very favorite part of MCF have no underlying logic. Just sort of random "guess me" approaches. I am so very disappointed in the 'visual only' strategy guide. I made it half way through w/ the occasional dip into the walk through blog and just flat out got bored. So why did I rate "level of challenge" a 2 if I can't figure out the puzzles? because one SHOULD be able to figure out the puzzles from the clues in the frame. NO. I don't plan to finish this game and wish I hadn't bought it.
And, oh yeah, I put my level down as "intermediate" but I have burned my way through a ton of puzzles. Again, I'm disappointed.

Good game. I am a huge fan of the Hidden Expedition games. I really wanted to give this a 5 but the extra game play had glitches that stopped the game dead. Had to restart the computer 4 different times. And while some of the game play puzzles were fantastic, (LOVED the solve the puzzle hidden objects) others were mundane (What were they thinking on the Follow the Lines puzzles?) The character sketches were fun.
Intriguing from the get go, this game really does let the player solve puzzles, not just work through hidden object scenes. I wish there were more games like this one around. Great visuals.
