Finally they are using more colors and fewer boring ones! They have up to 50 colors on several of the puzzles, and very few backpacks and teddy bears. They need more like this game.
This game has the same mix of easy and hard puzzles that most of the recent versions of the game have. Lots of flowers and animals. Lots of still life paintings. Van Gogh paintings are prominent in this version, and some are repeats from previous games.
I have always enjoyed these games and have all of them. I know the pictures will not be sharp and clear. They really can't be, due to the large pixels required to make them. But I like the realistic patterns and colors, and the famous paintings are fun to do. I agree with previous reviews that lament not being able to see beyond the first set of pictures until they are completed. But this game does not have any surprises, and it gets better after the first panel of 8 pictures.

This version of the game is much better than the previous couple of offerings. It has a lot more pretty pictures (paintings, scenery, city scapes, etc.) and fewer boring (guitar, hat, etc.) or juvenile pictures.
There were two repeat (or almost repeat) pictures, like the "Birth of Venus" in the first set, and there were several still life pictures, though not as many as in previous games. There was only one butterfly, and not too many cats, dogs and flowers, though there were some of each. I am really glad there are no boots (or radios or holly sprigs or . . . ) heavily outlined in black! I was getting tired of those types of pictures.
After I got past the first set (not a promising start), things really improved. If they let you see the boards beyond the first level before you have to decide whether or not to buy the game, I think there would be more takers. If I had chosen not to buy the game, I probably would have given it only a 1 or a 2 based on the first level.
I have really enjoyed playing the Pixel Art puzzles. They have become my favorite game! But this one is weak on difficulty. I love the puzzles that can take a couple of hours to complete. Bring those back!
I LOVE these puzzles. Please give us more! This is the best yet. More puzzles with lots of colors (30 colors on many puzzles), works of art, landscapes, and easier ones in between, like bike helmets and furry animals.

This is not quite as good as the previous two games (Pixel Art 3 and 4) because it has fewer large, complicated pictures. I love the challenge of the more complex drawings, and the landscapes of #3 and #4 were better than the birds in #5. The flowers and such were still good, and the game was quite enjoyable! I just prefer more complex pictures with LOTS of colors.
I enjoy games that allow you to time travel, and when I played the demo of this and got to go to ancient Rome, I jumped in with both feet. Rome was a burning apocalypse, but, bad guys were involved, so I was ok with it. However, the medieval and Renaissance times were nonsensical in terms of actual history.
The HOPS and mini-games were not terribly difficult, but they were enjoyable, and you can do match-3 on the HOPS if you want. There are collectible artifacts and puzzle pieces.
The bonus game, where you go into the future and thwart another bad guy, was a lot of fun.
Spoiler alert: The rest of the review is about the medieval and Renaissance time periods (after the demo), so if you don't want to know anything about the plot, skip it.
The second time period we went to was medieval Europe. Not even close. Dragons and dryads? In "real" history? But I shook my head and was willing to go with it. I enjoy a good fairy tale.
Then we went to the Renaissance. Floating islands? In the 17th century? This was nonsensical. It ruined what was otherwise a very enjoyable game for me. There were so many ways they could have done this in a true historical context, and I was very disappointed in their approach.
This was an entertaining game. As other reviewers have commented, it is fairly easy. You get lots of bonuses and the challenge level is low, but if you are looking for some mindless entertainment, it's a fun game, and I like how you learn the story of the Greek myth behind the game. There are some minigames between some of the levels, including HOS, spot the difference, etc. There are, I believe, 10 levels (at least 9), and the boards are varied.
One gripe I have with the game is the tiles that take two matches to eliminate. The silver color is almost identical to the background level of the game board, so they are very difficult to spot.
