This is a great adventure game, which to me was reminiscent of Myst. The navigational system is intuitive, but I did find that the controls were a tad too helpful.
Definitely and escape-room type game, but you won't need to be an engineer to figure out what to do.
One of the great things about it is that once you complete a "room" and enter the new "room" you can't go back; so if you are lost as to do what to do, you don't need to be fearful that you forgot to do something several rooms back. Also, the game won't allow you to progress to the next room if you haven't done everything that is required. No Sierra dead-ends!
NB: there aren't any combat or arcade sequences in this game.
Definitely worth checking out, but remember: it is an ADVENTURE game, not an HOPA.
I really liked what I played in DEMO. A definite buy for me. But, I have been playing adv games for years (since the 80s black screen with text only games). Point-and-click adventure game after *that*? Yes, please!
Is this a typical HOPA where every move is (mostly) obvious? No, it is not.
Reminiscent of "The Longest Journey"? Maybe... (That is a fantastic game, BTW, and BF would be wise to add it to its store.)
For those who aren't used to this type of game, here are some gaming tips, since there isn't a tutorial.
Dbl-Click to get the character to RUN to locations.
Remember to right-click on everything that has a caption when your mouse pointer hovers over it.
Press the M char to check yr "phone" / database.
Press the H char to check possible action spots in the "room" (or "skareen" as we used to call it).
{Esc} button will take you back and out of game.
And, IMO this is a really good game. And there are alot of "older" point-and-click adventure games out there, for those that are interested. Give it a try -- and don't be reluctant to check out all of the walkthroughs that are out there. This is good value for a game that will take hours and hours to complete.
I finally got around to playing this game and I was not disappointed! This game was alot of fun with a really great soundtrack and fantastic graphics. It is the best HOPA that I have played in a long time!!

Frankly, I am amazed that this new series -- and this game in this series -- is getting such rave reviews. While "Forgotten Gates" is better than "Prisoner," IMHO it is only marginally better.
"Prisoner" was average. "Forgotten Gates" is average.
Cheaply produced and developed, with little style. Nothing to stun or amaze.
First off, this is my favourite game genre. With all of the real-life missing children & murders in the world, I love to play fairy-tale type (fantasy) games. So, I am a tad biased ;)
I found that this game has a new approach to story telling. While you play the narrator (innkeeper/ex-thief), you also get to see the witch's point-of-view in cut-scenes, et cetera. Some people are born evil witches -- and others are made into evil witches.
There is alot to do in every scene. Even the zoom-ins have several tasks which require completion.
This is a must-have game for me!!
I recommend this game!

This game is EPIC! Original puzzles & the HOS are very interactive. This is a must-have game for serious HOPA players!
I have played Double Trouble I many times and I have been so wishing for a sequel! And, here it is!
This is NOT a HOPA; rather, it is a guided adventure game. You will never be lost or wandering about trying to figure out what to do next.
You will be playing both of the characters of the recently wedded Princess Loreen and Prince Nathaniel. They met & fell in love during lots of hijinx from DT-#1. However, it will not matter if you have played the first game -- the rapport is still there.
A great cast of characters and some solutions are not so very obvious.
Incidentally, if you like this type of game, then check out "The Fool" (available on BigFish)-- similar in playability and humour.
