I'd seen the first two in this series when they came out but didn't buy them, mostly because of the reviews from people whose opinions I trust. I decided that third time might be the charm, so I gave this one a try and used a credit to buy during the half-off sale. It's not bad, but it's not good, either. The level of challenge/complexity never changes--there are always only three goals per level, and pretty much the same number of paths to clear and items to collect on the last level as on the first. After a while it gets boring.
I could see no reason for this to be a collector's edition other than the additional ten levels, and those took place in a new location that was supposed to be a submarine version of a luxury cruise ship. The setting was bizarre, and none of the tasks changed to suit a different setting--supplies were still dropped from a helicopter (inside a submarine??!), the various "factories" still had to be built for producing food, boards, and steel I-beams (again, inside a submarine), and animals still needed to be rescued. At least they made an attempt to explain the animals as having been part of an onboard zoo (yes, on a submarine).
Unless you have credits you want to use, or time you want to kill, don't waste your money.
All of the Hero of the Kingdom games are my favorites, and I've played them many times repeatedly. This one is worth a tryout if you've never encountered HOTK games. They take a little getting used to because they are unlike most other games from Big Fish. You play at your own pace, and game play progresses as you gain fame and earn money by helping people. You also need to collect a lot of stuff as you go along, and all of it is used at some point, if for nothing else than to sell for money.
It's loads of fun. If you give it a serious try, you'll become addicted. I'm really, really hoping they will come out with another one.

As some of the other reviewers said, this game takes some getting used to. It is not the usual Rescue Team game, and it definitely has a learning curve. That said, I thought it was great that a dev took a game they've had great success with and changed it up some to add some different dimensions, instead of just continuing to milk the same-old, same-old. It's slow going at first while you learn it. If you expect it to be just another edition of Rescue Team, you will be badly disappointed. But it you're willing to try something new and challenging that has been based on Rescue Team, then I think you might really enjoy it. Give it a chance. We need to reward devs who are willing to take chances and make changes to the existing cookie-cutter games--way too many of those already.
This is a clickfest with very little challenge. Graphics are clean, but too simple. The whole game is too simple, although kids might like it. I have no idea what another reviewer is describing as hot pink figures. I saw nothing in the game remotely like that. It looks like another Android game that has migrated to PC.
I hoped for a good TM game when I saw this, but was badly disappointed, even though most of the other reviews were negative. I still usually like to see for myself, because what bothers someone else might not bother me. But not this time--the other negative reviews are right on target. The characters and graphics are a mix of Viking and Celtic--couldn't seem to decide which culture they wanted to use. Graphics are crude and rough--layers do not blend seamlessly. When workers go in front of objects, they or the objects partially disappear--looked weird. I'm always happy to support a new (or old) dev who tries to give us what we want, but this is either inept or ridiculously rushed to market. Definitely going to skip this one--after trying only one level. It was all I could take.

My first thought on seeing the description and images was, "Oh, no! Not another android/phone game that's being palmed off as a PC game!" But after I read PennMom's review I decided to try it and I'm really glad I did. It's different and a lot of fun. Don't let the tutorial put you off. It's very simplistic, and it took me a few seconds to realize that I had to follow the steps they illustrated on the puzzle screen, not just try to scroll through the instructions. After just 30 minutes of the demo I was hooked. I followed PennMom's recommendation to start with the lowest numbers first, and the button for selecting all the single-cell pixels is really helpful. I hit that each time I start a new puzzle so I don't have to search for all the number "1's."
It's great to see something different and addictive. I hope this dev keeps offering more.

This was a buy for me even though I initially experienced some of the problems the negative reviewers mention. The trick seems to be that you need to continue with whatever actions you CAN do until the one(s) that you can't become possible. It's hard to explain unless you've at least tried the demo. For example, the task was to find the fairy and I did, but she wouldn't respond to any of my clicks. The big arrow pointed to her on screen, but I couldn't click on her. (Well, I could click, but nothing happened.) So I just meandered around and cleared farther along the path and she magically became available. Apparently you have to continue doing some things until you can complete a task. This is not a game that is well suited for quick play or quick task completion. You need to take your time and mess around with it a little. It reminds me of Hero of the Kingdom, which I also like. It's a good buy in my opinion, and definitely a little different from most of what we get here.
Okay, I, too, didn't like the lack of Irish accents in a game that takes place in Ireland, but I could overlook that (mostly) if the game itself was actually about Halloween. When it's Halloween, and when the game title is "Halloween Stories," I expect the game to be about Halloween, not monsters, hauntings, or hoax hunters. At least there are a few jack-o-lanterns and witches in the background, but they felt like afterthoughts tossed in because, hey, maybe we need to put a few Halloween-ish items in the scenery. Where are games about Halloween? Nothing here but more monsters and evil spirits. I get enough of those the rest of the year.

I look forward to Halloween games and Christmas games during those holidays. I've bought all of the other Halloween Chronicles games, but this one is not a Halloween game. I don't want yet another monster game. I want one that's about Halloween. I made it through about 20 minutes before giving up. The game itself might be fine, but I buy Halloween Chronicles for the connection to Halloween, not monsters.
Even for a standard version, this match three is mediocre. Graphics are crude/primitive and the storyline is almost nonexistent. For a good Halloween themed match three buy Cursed House, or for just a good restore-a-house game, Barn Yarn is still enjoyable. This looks like a very old game.
