It could have been so much more. I waited quite a while for this game to come out. Thinking I would have around 5 -6 hours of game time, I settled in for the evening. Surprise, no evening, just 3 and 1/2 short hours for the entire game including bonus. Others have described the game excellently, so I won’t go into that. If I had it to do again, I would choose the SE version. In my opinion the bonus was not worth it. Like my title says, it was good…while it lasted.

This review is based on completed gameplay, and I have to say that this is the first Faircrofts’ Antiques that I did not enjoy playing very much at all. The gameplay has changed almost completely, and I feel that corners were cut. There are no more introductions to different chapters or levels anymore. In fact, there are no more chapters. The whole story runs into itself. Once the game begins it just keeps going on and on without any chapter breaks or designations until the end. Because of this there is no way of knowing how far you’ve advanced in the game, or where any of the bonus materials are located. The other stories from this series have a large square map that shows you the locations of the next chapters, as well as the puzzle area. There was also a ribbon of the chapters as you completed them, keeping you aware of how far you had progressed in the game and what the bonus content was. Those are gone as well. In this game, when you finish a certain type of task, a large box bounces out and gives you a score. This happens every single time. I feel it’s unwarranted and unnecessary. Mia also pops up right in the middle of an hos to make a comment about a given item. This interrupts game play and flow and is very distracting, and for me, off-putting. The game is story driven, and the story is a bit muddled up. It’s not clear and directed as with their other stories. In my opinion, whoever authored this one did not do as good a job as in previous offerings. There is a ton of dialog, so you will have a lot of reading to do. All this said, I found the game to be much shorter for me than their other Faircrofts games. I played the game in roughly 5 hours. Usually it takes me a couple days of about 4 hours at a time. Based on what I stated above, I do not feel I got my moneys’ worth. In my opinion this is nowhere near the caliber of quality that the other Faircrofts presented. I did use the free trial, even though I didn’t care for the new game-play, because up until now, I have enjoyed this series. I doubt if Boom Zap will do so, but I hope they return to their previous game format for this series. If the next Faircrofts comes in this format, I will not be purchasing it. I’m extremely disappointed and I regret my purchase.
I absolutely enjoyed this game and found it to be relaxing with a wholesome content. It was wonderful to play a game that endorsed compassion and caring for family as well as community. Although the game play is easy, the game itself is story driven by way of dialog. If you don’t mind reading dialog, you will probably enjoy the game. The main game ends well, and the bonus game is equal to the main game in quality, although it isn’t necessary to the main game…it’s another story. I would like to thank Boomzap for this delightful series. It is refreshing and I hope they continue to make more adventures with Mia.

My original review of this game is of the SE. In it I stated that I too had the same problem in the Captain's cabin, which was due to a glitch. I was playing on Windows 10. I retried the game on Windows 7 and it played through without any problems. I have often found this to be so with other games as well that have glitches on Windows 10, whether they were SE or CE, and they always worked when I played them on Windows 7.

I, too, am in the Captain’s cabin and cannot finish because of said glitch that has been posted by others. The game was great until this occurred. Other than contacting the developer myself about the glitch, there’s no point in saying anything else as there is no technical forum here anymore and the only recourse BFG now provides is a replacement game code.
